I tried to think of what Bowie song might fit Prince's setlist and I'm starting to think he could just start doing "Fame" in the way he's been doing "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" for years.

A no-brainer, really.

It would be nice if he did something more obscure, like "Absolute Beginners", but the point should be that people in the audience show be able to recognize what he's playing as a Bowie song.

Wow what a nice image. For some reason, this almost brings me to tears. I guess it's just the reality setting in that he's gone...but not forgotten!

Think about Queen's Innuendo with the title track being released a couple of days before Freddie's passing. And all the material that was later released on Made In Heaven.

There's this fantastic and really heartwrenching documentary Freddie Mercury Lover of life singer of songs, where Brian May recalls recording it in Switzerland. Listening to Mother Love from Made In Heaven with last verses sung by Brian because Freddie coulnd't make it is for me always extremely sad and painful.

Yes, i forgot about Freddie Mercury(and the Innuendo, and Made in Heaven, albums).

Freddie Mercury's death was extremely depressing and tragic. He was also one of the greats.

David Bowie 'has been secretly cremated in America without friends or family present' after the star told loved ones he did not want a funeral.

The singer died of cancer on Sunday after spending 18 months fighting the disease after receiving his diagnosis.

It is understood the 69-year-old's body was cremated shortly after his death on Sunday 'without any fuss'.

A number of memorial concerts have been announced for Bowie, pictured, who died in New York on Sunday

According to the Daily Mirror, the singer told friends that he only wanted to be remembered for the good times and his music.

He explained his wishes to his family and wife Iman, 60, about what should happen after he died.

One source said: 'In many respects you don’t need a memorial or service to remember David by...you have his music instead.

'He would have wanted to just disappear with no fuss, no big show, no fan-fare. This would totally be his style.

'His last album Blackstar was very much his goodbye to fans instead.'

Bowie released his last album Blackstar on January 8, his 69th birthday, and just a couple of days before his death.

Despite his decision not to have a funeral, a number of memorial concerts are being held for Bowie, while next month's Brit Awards will be dedicated to the London-born singer.

It is understood the cremation cost between £480 and £630.

He is believed to have undergone a 'direct cremation' which would have entailed his remains being collected and taken to the cremation without any ceremony.

The album, which has been described as a memorial for his fans, is likely to top the US music charts this weekend, the first time Bowie has ever had a number one album across the Atlantic.

According to industry figures, some 2.5 million people streamed songs from the work after it was released on Friday.

Blackstar looks certain to hold on to the UK number one spot this Friday with just under 90,000 combined sales since its release last Friday on Bowie's 69th birthday.

And it could reach the apex of the US Billboard albums chart this Sunday, with sales of 130,000 expected this week as it rivals 25 by Adele, which has been number one for seven weeks.

Meanwhile figures from global streaming service Spotify show there was a jump of 2,822 per cent in Bowie songs played in the hours following the announcement that he had died from cancer.

The top five Bowie songs streamed yesterday on Spotify were Heroes (up 3,630 per cent), Let's Dance (up 3,942 per cent), Blackstar (up 1,120 per cent), Lazarus (up 1,084 per cent) and Life On Mars (up 4,238 per cent)

Bowie tracks also made up five of its UK Top Ten, and nine of the UK Top 20. Prior to news of his death, he had 4million monthly listeners on Spotify, which rose to 6.5million today.

Three retrospectives of work by Bowie - who lived his last years in New York but enjoyed more mainstream success in Britain - and three original albums have all broken into the UK Top 40.

A spokeswoman for the Creative Agents Agency in New York who represented Mr Bowie said they had no comment on his cremation arrangements.

So they can celebrate his music, life and express their grief and saying good bye.

If his family does not want this then they will speak out. Otherwise, I don't see any disrespect in this.

have you not heard of 'celebrating' the memory of a life that's passed on?

many people celebrate the life of a loved one after they leave this life instead of spending time in sorrow.

imo wanted no sorrow in rememberance of his life.

where i'm from they call it "life celebration."

in life celebrations there are shared tears, but through those shared tears there are many rainbows of joyful smiles and laughter while recalling the good, fun, wonderful and loving memories.

imo that is what Mr Bowie wanted smiles, laughter and loving music filled memories of his life in our space in time. i do feel he wanted us all to celebrate his life.

The one at Carnegie Hall was planned and announced before he passed. The organizers had expected to pay tribute to a living legend--just one of a series of tribute concerts they've put on, Prince included.

There were a few comments that I wanted to respond to all in one post without flooding this thread....first, if DAVID BOWIE himself said he didn't want to have any pomp and circumstance surrounding his death then THAT ALONE tells me that he didn't want that and these folks organizing these tributes (save the one apparently planned before his death that was supposed to be a tribute to a living legend) should be ashamed of themselves for DEFYING what his last wishes were! Come on people, common sense! How do you pay "tribute" by defying what a person ultimately wanted in regards to what happens after they died? Ridiculous...And I seriously doubt that his family members would tell someone "No" who wanted to do a tribute anyway. I mean, the family doesn't want to be the bad guy saying "No" to all those people now would they? I think it's in poor taste to defy what he wanted, period. There's no need to second guess something that he obviously made very clear well before he died.
