This was just posted to the David Bowie FB page. It should make clear how his family feels about the concerts in respect to his wishes.

https://www.facebook.com/...e/?fref=nf

THANK YOU

The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend.

They ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of times.

We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world.

However, it is important to note that while the concerts and tributes planned for the coming weeks are all welcome, none are official memorials organized or endorsed by the family.

Just as each and every one of us found something unique in David's music, we welcome everyone’s celebration of his life as they see fit.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Cancer is a natural cause of death as such. It's the second most frequent cause of death after heart failure. Animals get cancer all the time too.

Of course, it's an entirely different deal how long David Bowie would have lived without his smoking, drinking and drug habits. He cleaned up a bit too late, it seems.

I tried to think of what Bowie song might fit Prince's setlist and I'm starting to think he could just start doing "Fame" in the way he's been doing "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" for years.

A no-brainer, really. smile

It would be nice if he did something more obscure, like "Absolute Beginners", but the point should be that people in the audience show be able to recognize what he's playing as a Bowie song.

I would go with "Young Americans".

Geez. There must have been a lack of angels up there recently.

This BBC 6 radio show plays a 1971 "David Bowie & Friends" concert from 1971 during the last 30 minutes. Did anyone know this? I didn't. Very exciting!

Interesting opinion....I actually wondered about something similar. It makes you wonder about the long-term effects of drug use. I don't know much about cocaine but I wonder if it does permanent damage to the heart. I imagine that it would. Does anyone on the Org know about the long-term effects of cocaine?

It does sadly catch up with you. Not in a good way either. I just attended Natalie Cole's funeral. She cleaned up her act. But it caught up with her anyway. I have friends that have passed that were heavy users. Cocaine speeds up your heart rate & keeps you up sometimes for days That's why it attracts so many entertainers who need a lot of energy to perform.

Yeah I was thinking about James Gandolfini's death that happened a few years ago and I read somewhere that he also used cocaine a lot when he was younger. Wow, how was Natalie Cole's funeral? I only saw a few pictures. I haven't checked Youtube for video yet but I'm sure it's up by now. Sorry to hear about your friends that passed. Were they addicted for several years or was it kind of a short-term phase? I remember seeing on an episode of Oprah's talk show that they showed brain scans of people who routinely did ecstasy and it showed holes in the brains of people...the drug decayed brain tissue! It was shocking.

Btw I never said doing drugs give you cancer. Although Bowie did have liver cancer which may have originated as lung cancer & spread to his liver. He was a heavy smoker. He also had several heart attacks.

Wow, thanks for sharing about the funeral. I'll check it out on Youtube soon. It's weird how many of these folks in the music industry end up dying from drug overdoses or perhaps diseases or conditions that may (or may not) have been started by (or at least worsened by) heavy drug use.

David Bowie's Family Issues Statement on Singer's Death

"We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world"

By Jon Blistein January 14, 2016

The family of David Bowie has thanked fans around the world for their "love and support" in a note on Facebook. They also requested that their privacy continue to be respected as they plan a private ceremony celebrating the late singer.

15 Great David Bowie Performances »

"The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend," the post reads. "They ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of times. We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world."

Bowie's death has inspired myriad tributes from musicians and fans, and a concert in his honor has been scheduled for March 31st at New York's Carnegie Hall featuring the Roots, Cyndi Lauper, the Mountain Goats, Heart's Ann Wilson, Perry Farrell and Jakob Dylan. A smaller show, per the BBC, boasting longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti was held in Toronto on Tuesday.

Bowie's family, however, noted that "while the concerts and tributes planned for the coming weeks are all welcome, none are official memorials organized or endorsed by the family. Just as each and every one of us found something unique in David's music, we welcome everyone's celebration of his life as they see fit."

Bowie died on Sunday after an 18-month battle with cancer, which he largely concealed as he continued to work on a musical stage production, Lazarus, and his final album, (pronounced "Blackstar"). In an interview with Rolling Stone, Visconti said that in the weeks leading up to his death, Bowie had written and demo-ed five new songs for a planned follow-up to Blackstar.

"I was thrilled," Visconti said, "and I thought, and he thought, that he'd have a few months, at least. Obviously, if he's excited about doing his next album, he must've thought he had a few more months. So the end must've been very rapid. I'm not privy to it. I don't know exactly, but he must've taken ill very quickly after that phone call."

For God's sake Freeda!!! Don't act like you didn't see my previous posts saying that I saw the celebrations of the fans in England. That is TOTALLY different than FORMAL, ORGANIZED and "STAR-STUDDED" events that likely the stars are STILL getting "appearance fees" for performing...geez, you know EXACTLY what I was talking about earlier but nice try though.

One of the worst forms of disrespect is to have your dying wishes not respected. It burns me up. I've even had asshole family members who have blatantly told me they weren't going to do what I wanted at my funeral if something should happen to me....that shit burns me up like nothing else!

[You are derailing the thread. Please keep it on topic, thanks - luv4u]

Just as each and every one of us found something unique in David's music, we welcome everyone's celebration of his life as they see fit.

Please move on and keep the thread on topic. If you have an issue with someone, rather than bitch and whine in the forum ............ just take it to orgnotes with that other person. Please don't derail and/or ruin the thread, thanks - luv4u]
