This album is absolutely great. It's a worthy follow-up to his previous 2 albums. My only complaint is that I wish the Charade was longer. I was never a big fan of 1000 deaths but within the context of the album I can say that I like it.

8.5-9 /10 so far for me, absolutely great album, not sure why it needed 14 years though.

I honestly think that the studio version of "Really Love" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard

So I buy the album and download it from itunes fairly easily enough (for some reason itunes paused my automatic download halfway through so I had to download the song individually, but whatever) but my copy of Till It's Done goes silent after the first few seconds (does anyone else have this problem) but when I go to itunes to download it again I apparently have to authorise the computer, but when I try to do that I can't because I've apparently already authorised 5 computers. FFS Apple, this is why I hate using your shitty bloated piece of crap software, just fucking give me the songs I paid £9 for you morons!

Anyway, the bits of the album I've listened to sound great, but the swampyness means I'm going to have to spend quite a bit of time listening before I can get a general handle on it.

I don't understand....if you've bought and downloaded it on your computer, then your computer MUST be authorized to have done that? Or did you buy it on your phone directly?

And for all that trouble, you can't even get lossless. Ah well. Monopolizers be monopolizing.

Ah, it was just a little panic of mine, it's over now, I deauthorised my laptop and was able to download it again from my desktop, so it's cool. First world problems I guess smile

I think that you can buy and download it one time on any device using your iTunes login, but after that your computer has to be authorised if you want to download it again. Not sure though, as I implied I'm not a fan of iTunes and for the most part avoid using it, but in Britain atm it appears to be only place you can get Black Messiah, and I sure as hell wasn't going to wait for it to turn up elsewhere wink

I barely slept last night because I wanted to wake up and listen to this album again. It's going to kick my ass again, even if I do feel a little bit groggy.

lol You and me both! I can't even fall asleep, way too buzzed. It just keeps getting more enjoyable with each listen. First time was kind of sensory overload, hearing all the new and different things going on. Now the 'sonic dust' has settled and everything is just headbang music

Well well well, I stopped into HMV on the way to work this morning, and the Black Messiah CDs were all there in the new releases section! (No vinyl yet). Can't believe I actually have the real thing in my possession.

Home time can't come soon enough today!

"Really Love" is the loviest thing he's ever penned. This album tops both Voodoo and his debut. Simply incredible. eek

Wonderful album. Seen as people are making comparisons... it's a much, much stronger album that AOA. 'Till It's Done' and 'Prayer' stand out the most on the first listen. Will be giving this another listen in the morning!

What a great album. Almost like Erykahs New Amerykah pt1.

I really dig the introspective lyrics, the moody funk and experimentation. Its not raido friendly, but Dangelo never been about that much anyway.

Much better than Voodoo for sure.

Trax I really like
Really Love
Prayer
1000 Deaths
Aint That Easy
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Too cheap to buy the whole thing just yet. I had to hear the completed "1000 Deaths," though, and I really dig what D'Angelo has done with it. That track is nuts!

This is the sort of versatility I've held out hope that D is capable of, and I hope he'll give us an album worth of such energetic, expansive stuff one day.

I'll take Black Messiah over everything Prince has done for the last 14 years combined.

Obviously all our opinions are still in the process of being formed atm, but I must say I am suprised by how good it is. While I always thought that it would be a good album I had assumed that there would be a huge backlash upon launch due to the long waiting period and it not measuring up to people's expectations, but honestly this album is everything I want from the guy that made Voodoo, and the wider world seems to agree with that, which is awesome.
