So it will be released at midnight? Does anyone know what timezone they're talking about here, there are a lot of midnights in the world! (I just thought about making some lame pun based off the track from Planet Earth, but can't really be bothered, a new D cd is almost upon us!)

If your on the westcoast, it'll probably be up around 9 or 10 pst.

Yeah, I'm guessing 12AM EST, which would be 9PM on the West Coast.

Just to play the 'annoying Funk Devil's advocate' for a moment..

Funk for Funk's sake,

Is something that i and i assume many of us Prince supporters

fully endorse-

But-

Is there a strong enough Chorus/Hook to this song for the average radio listener?

I'll take this funk over any average radio garbage any day!!!

Ah, thank you, that's helpful. Sadly I'm on the extreme east coast, well, London, UK to be exact, so I won't be able to get it tonight, but it should be out by the time I get up. As an aside, is it pretty much taken as a given that a US release tone with an unspecified time zone will be EST? As someone who only ever has to deal with one unless traveling abroad this is a tad mystifying to me.

Okay, I'm going to hold Questlove to his word then.

On another note, I'm watching the Bravo station and a commercial about D's new album just came on (note it didn't mention a release date). excited

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Hope this is right, but, are we sure it's coming out Tuesday?
No listing at Best Buy or at Amazon... Wondering if a physical release will be later?

I knew this mother fucker would be jumpin' off. lol I agree with a lot of what people are saying and I disagree with a lot of what people are saying. So far, my two biggest reactions are as follows... First, the length of time it took to get here, for me, will forever taint my reaction to the music. Second, I'm not finding Sugah Daddy as mindblowing as some people seem to be. It's good, I really like it, but it's not, like, blowing my mind groundbreaking oh my GAWD good. That being said, I am really looking forward to hearing the entire album.

The 'Sugah Daddy' song title is killin' me though. lol But, yeah, that's maybe a personal thing. lol

One more thing, though, and I realize this some people will consider this an unfair criticism/opinion. I don't care. lol If dude doesn't have enough fresh material to release another new albums in the next couple years, three tops, I'm calling bullshit on the whole thing. ... as you can tell, this 14 year nonsense isn't really sitting well with me.

Wait--didn't you already lol at this?

ah. wtf. i still lol. i mean vocal clarity - c'mon. 15 years after voodoo sb should realise that this kind of "unclear" vox are his trademark.

You want a clear understandable hook? Go listen to lenny kravitz...

Prince can do this in 20min? I really don't know, man. Listen to the details in the track... it's pretty complex even it sounds easy.

Prince lost the love for sound and details a lil bit in his latest compositions. I'm glad blast from the past came out with genious tracks like adonis and bathsheba.

When I compare Gold Standard to Sugah Daddy... I'm mean I can feel and hear much difference in chosen sounds and quality of production. Golden Standard sound a lil bit like done in 20min (ok, only Prince is able to do that... haha)... compare it. chose for yourself... i played AOA maybe 3 or 4 times.. and i'm through.... I played Sugah Daddy 10 times today and still can't get enough... don't know.

D' delivers, man. And it's a tribute to one of the most amazing soul funk musicians of all time - Prince. Nobody denies. But i hear sly too and other influences. I mean check the horns. so freaky and experimental ... not that 20 hornplayers in your face stuff...

But, hey, why am I writing this... fuck it. THIS RECORD IS A CHANGER. the rnb soul scene better watch out. I'm sure the rest of the record will be mind blowin...

[Edited 12/14/14 11:45am]

I'm waiting for the complete album , so I can't respond to the track, which I haven't heard yet. I just thought the two laughing responses to the one post were funny.

D'angelo's vocal layering is so reminiscent of prince's till it's scary! He has learned from the best. I'm sure prince is very honored by it. I mean U can tell he studied them 4 years & perfected them perfectly. 'D'angelo comes the closest to prince's vocal layering, than any artist besides Bilal, than I ever heard. prince has influenced him so well..

The best Prince protege that he never discovered. But I'm sure wished he had. He has acknowledged on CNN a few years back He'd like to see what D'angelo is gonna come out with next.

The press always compare D to Marvin Gaye. But I C prince all over him. He has studied him deeply! Just like U said "The best prince protege that he never discovered". He has gotten EVERYONE that has been influenced by prince around him. Jesse Johnson(who told me he did not teach D'angelo how to play guitar)John Blackwell, ?uestLove, & prince's ex manager Alan Leeds.

But i'm very proud of D. I've been there since the beginning of his career. It almost ended with him six feet under. He beat DRUGS! I bow down to him for that. It's not easy. Hopefulley it's not too late 4 a comeback...

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
