This is the year he wiped the floor with Prince. Didn't think I'd ever be saying that.

D'Angelo seems to have little or no interest in sales. Grammy noms for the 2015 ceremony were announced last week. This album missed the cut-off ( Oct 1, 2013 - Sept 30, 2014).

Supposed to be number one on Itunes R&B albums chart.

I guess the beginning where he's refering to Jesus not being a "cracka Christ", but being black. I don't know, it didn't seem hugely objectional to me, just a pretty standard afrocentric reinterpretation of the traditional white images of the messiah, but I ain't black or white so what do I know.

Jesus probably wasn't white but he definately wasn't black. He was probably brownskinned :p

Not that it actually really matters of course, but apparently D'angelo thinks it does.

There's not really a need for the expression 'cracka christ' at all

THat being said it's not like its hurting my feelings. It's not that racist. Just a tad bit

If Prince took 14 years 2 make an album................your head would EXPLODE when u heard it.

Then perhaps Prince should had taken those 14 years. BOOM.

Let's not get crazy here. This album is absolutely great and my favorite album in years. But if you collect the best prince songs from Prince from the last 14 years you can make 4 or 5 albums on the same level or better

Exactly.

Why can't they both be good?

I don't really get the slamming of Prince because D's new joint is good.

What is the point?

nope. all you'll have is a jumbled collection of medocre and decent tunes, and they still won't hold a candle to D's "Black Messiah" album.

I just tell it like it is, or else I just won't tell it!

Because people want to think that D' Angelo will inspire Prince to make Sign O The Times 2 regardless of the decades of evidence that it won't happen.

Agreed, it always detracts from a discussion of the music.

Is anyone else having a lukewarm reaction to this? I mean, it's completely fine and pleasant but the lead up was that it was somehow otherworldy, and for me it's just not. And I loved his first two albums.

What is it about D'Angelo? Whenever it's even hinted that he's going to release something people freak out and act like it's going to be the best music ever made and that music will be saved.

Again, this was fine. I do really like "Charade" and the album closer "Another Life." "Betray My Heart" was a little piece of jaunty fun.

The rest seems one-note. Repetitive vamping in nearly every song. I don't know. Everyone was waiting for this? I would have rather had a Maxwell album if I had to choose.
