I would say Beasties and DMC were more Rock(at times) but PE moreso Rap. They deserve credit but more for being Rap imo than Rap-Rock.

I also don't buy that stance. You never hear them complaining about Prince, Chuck Berry, BB King, P-Funk being inducted. More like pissed that certain artists are excluded, like KISS.

True! who knows maybe they are ok with them?. I am just going off That Metal Show and what a lot of fans talk about.... there are some that seem ok with it and don't mind other types of genres in the hall.

But i know Tons of people complain about Madonna being in there & Donna Summer going in....

Call me crazy but i feel Madonna had some rock moments & Donna Summer espescially did so who knows razz

Also eh i get why people want Kiss in... cause of the makeup, big show & i guess Ace Freshly(overrated imo razz razz)

But Kiss as i grow up just seem so damn cheesy lol i mean i like the unmasked Kiss more cause it's horrible yet it has some great musicians.

Gene Simmons can keep a beat but he's nothign great on bass, Peter Criss is average on drums.

I guess i just don't get what is greast about Kiss nowadays... Metal fans will kill me for saying that lol

Musically i will say he is a good bass player & wrote the best songs in The Crue... imo.

Whoah! The bomb squad etc put their samples down and damn near each early song was like a heavy metal assault. Just because Run and them made some novelty songs with rock in them and Beasties had Rubin infuse some of his old records as samples, they were still more on the rap side and PE more on the rock side.

Why you think Anthrax even considered to hook up? It wasnt just because they wanted their own Walk This Way..that Walk This Way collab was a marketing tool. Run didnt even want to do the song. Putting on PE was like putting on Yngvie Malmsteen (sp?)...some GBH...some shit that really made your mom and dad say tun that shit down! Run-DMC and Beasties were friggin pop when juxtaposed to PE.

I do give credit for then using Big Beat etc from Billy Squier (r.i.p. since 1984) but they didnt dig rock as it was made to be seen. PE and them...they were diverse as fuck...and not because of novelty.

Not to mention the Beasties were more influenced by punk rock than metal. PE's music definitely sounded metal-ish because of the Bomb Squad.

You know that I've got to defend Kiss. wink

What does musicianship have to do with anything? It's called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not the Jazz Hall of Fame. razz Shit, if Michael Anthony is in there why not Gene Simmons? At least Gene wrote some decent songs.

I think that the best argument for Kiss being in there is a single word: fame. Like them or not Kiss are damn famous. They are also a rock and roll (hard rock) band. "Rock and Roll." "Fame." C'mon, people, connect the dots!

No doubt he was the creative force behind Motley Crue but I can't really think of any songs with distinctive basslines, maybe something from Motley Crue or Generation Swine but his playing during their peak years always struck me as very pedestrian. I guess "Primal Scream" has some cool bass bits.

Oh, I always knew Lee and company were cool even when it was popular for folks to clown on him way back when. Ive been searching for the soundtrack to Barb Wire for over a decade to get his MOM jam and a few other artists (rock version of Word Up) songs from it.

I think this is why I was disappointed to hear Nikki act like that....because even though the Crue audience were probably ...how do I put this.....er..probably current Fox News Republican tea Partiers..I always felt the dudes were not like that.

joking because, yes, I was mocking the know-it-all metalheads

but also serious because I stick to my guns: after Jazz and Blues (you're right there Gunsnhalen) comes Metal in terms of musicianship, and I'm taling about QUALITY metal, not Poison, the nu-metal shit or the typically amateurish black-metal teen band from Norway, no offense

FUCK IT, after all is said and done, metal is awesome because only such genre could spawn lyrics like these, pure wisdom:

"Time to burn! you losers better learn
No one controls my goddamn life
I'll do just what I feel riding horses made of steel
I'm here to burn up the night"

I'm with rialb. Yes KISS is hated by millions but they deserve to be in HOF. Their 1970's peers are in there and they should be too.

But I know there's some b.s. politics and hatred with Gene, Paul, Jan Wenner and Dave Marsh. Not to mention the orginal 4 members who can't stand each other. As an old school fan I can say

that sometimes KISS can be their own worst enemies.

I think Hanson and The Village People will get in there before KISS does.

Yeah people fail to mention the reason why Kiss ain't in is because of the beef Simmons and Stanley got against Wenner and Marsh. Don't know if the Kiss original founding members' beef has anything to do with it since I can name acts that had beef (Ike & Tina, The Beach Boys, Blondie, etc.) that still got in. But then again, the Rolling Stones were smart enough to get over their own beef by their own induction but everything else is right. I do see why people want them inducted as they are important to rock music and, at least in the '70s they had some of the greatest rock songs ever produced (as well as a live spectacle of their shows). But Deep Purple (who was robbed this year lol) will get in before they do. Real talk.
