Ha Set Fire hit number-one without an actual label-licensed video lol

It's definitely not one of her best singles, but it's fun and catchy.I think it should be as a "teaser single" designed to promote her Super Bowl appearance...and then she can come back next month with a stronger single to serve as the "official first single".
The video is EXCELLENT.I can't stop watching it

I hear ya on the teaser single angle. I can see her releasing something else to generate new excitement about the album release closer to the release date. As a matter of fact, I'm expecting it.

It's a "teaser"? Really bruh? I kept reading it's the "first single"...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I hope they don't raise expectations too high.....Maybe it's too late for that now.

Nah, I know its the actual single but she may treat it like a teaser after they don't get the lasting results they want and release a 2nd single to help bolster the album. No, it her first single alright, it just may not last that long is what I'm saying. Isn't the album not dropping until late March? I'll be surprised if this song is still getting good airplay before February is out.
Just being honest. | |

I love everything about this MV.
1. The Bob Fosse choreography in the bar scene. Very Sweet Charity.
2. The faceless cheerleaders - the GIRL POP pretenders?
3. The MIA rap verse - I don't give a sh*t. Madonna's message to all those who want her to be always on a Ray of Light mode.
4. The very high camp factor - You have the Sweet Charity choreo...the whole video featured tracking shots that remind you of all those 50s musicals. Then you have the look on Madonna's face as she walks away from the camera after she was caught by two football players....the Umbrellas in Cherbourg-inspired look at the beginning of the music video (Catherine Denueve) complete with cool rain effects and umbrellas, that cheesy intro about LUV and being a player.
5. Madonna references - Material Girl lift (this time as she "scaled" the wall), the Marilyn Monroe look which is a combination of the Erotica and the Like a Virgin eras, Dick Tracy (that Tommy Gun), Two cheerleaders kissing (VMA anyone?) etc. etc. etc.
People she's back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the song is pure Madonna. Could it be about a girl pop singer (or singers) whom she has inspired...could it be just about a guy....could it be that she's talking to Martin Solveig in this song.
This is the most exciting M era since Like a Prayer...so let's enjoy the ride.

No,it doesn't suck It's a cool song, actually. It just doesn't sound like a "first single" to me.It's too lightweight. However,it works extremely well as a 'teaser/promo' track for the SuperBowl.Releasing a song like this a few days before the SuperBowl is a shrewd marketing move. But in late March, just before the new CD drops, come back even stronger with a kickass single to serve as the REAL first single.
Even though "4 Minutes" isn't one of her best songs,it sounds like a first single.Timbaland's marching band intro was sheer genuis....there was a real 'urgency' to that song.
Then again,I could be completely wrong."Give Me All Your Luvin" could turn out to be one of Madonna's biggest hits...lol...we'll see.

and nowadays, that's how many artists do it anyway. They release one song, then have another single all ready to go before the album is even released. Now that Madonna has aligned herself with Interscope, there are so many more interesting promotional opportunities that she didn't have with Warners.

The film clip is GREAT. She looks stunning as Marilyn and its the frst time in her career that she actually looks exactly like her rather than just Madonna playing dress up. The song however, although its grown on me alot from the demo, is quite poor ESPECIALLY the lyrics, she needs help from a proper songwriter with those.

I dont like the cheerleaders bits in it at all. Like the Nicki Minaj and MIA and all the music style in that:- like it from 2.00-3 mins well until that cheerleading bit comes back. Like the video bits where there all dressed in white and the footballer bits. overall needed more nicki and MIA in it more dubstep and less of that cheerleaders crap and it would of been a good tune.
