Identity

Hard Candy ranks high on the suck-o-meter. 2005's Confessions on a Dance Floor is one of her finest releases. This new album might be a superhyped mess that I intend to preview before buying.

I don't know, I mean, it's good to see someone her age still slaying the industry, but the song is just so...bleh. Whatever the outcome, I'll support her just because I love seeing ageism in the music industry being shattered.

Spice Girls 2012!?!

I agree with the ageism sentiment but I'm gonna go and contradict myself by saying Madonna is way too old for this type of thing.

It'll be a hit though.

It sounds a bit like Beautiful Stranger sped up, i dont really see the need for Nicki or MIA except to get her on the radio. Its catchy, nothing special, but its an attention grabber, i mean its all tied around "football" and she is doing the superbowl and now the video is out, etc...its all the marketing game, all the huge corporations, clear channel etc..dishing out big bucks to buy a hit.

Yall fans actually LIKE this song? Be honest (with yourselves).

Im a huge fan but this shit..just no.

For some reason this makes me want to revisit Hard Candy and give it the appreciation I never did.

I hope the rest of the album makes up for this cotton candy boolshet.

I'm being honest. I actually like this song. It's fun and catchy as hell. It's Madonna being Cougar Madonna. I think for promotional purposes it doesn't get easier than releasing a catchy infectious pop song and pushing/promoting the fuck out of it.

I'm not a "huge" fan. I only got into Madge about 5 years ago after seeing her shows. But yes, I like it. It's Madonna. Catchy as hell bubble gum pop. If I want "deep" music I know where to go.

I know right?

I scoffed at 4 Minutes but that was 5 times better than this. It had an ominous groove and some meat etc. But this song here...I mean if I was a 13 year old white girl this shit would be the hotness to me but ...just no. And she had two black chicks to helpout and relegated Monster's Niki to this? Them two got played. They were supposed to bring something to HER soumd etc imo.

Listening again.

It's not completely awful.

I just don't like it that much. lol

nod

It feels like a solid filler track---not a song that launches an album.

M.I.A. seems out of place. The song is all right. The anime masks on the cheerleaders are just as fucking creepy as usual. The video was aw'ight.

Yeah, that deal with Clear Channel pretty much secured its initial impact on radio. The question is whether or not its going to able to stay there. I don't see much shelf life or replay value for this one.

Portions of the song actually reminds me of Katy Perry a little bit, believe it or not. I wasn't expecting Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" but I wasn't expecting a Katy Perry remix either. Consider me underwhelmed. neutral

My review of the song: it's aight. Kinda underwhelming (since it didn't differ much from the leak except for Nicki's rap). It's like a mixture of "Beautiful Stranger", "Over and Over" (from Like a Virgin) and Avril Lavigne's "Boyfriend".

My review of the video: great images. But you can tell that both the song and the video co-aligns with her Super Bowl performance coming this Sunday.

Still thinking of whether to or not buy it after seeing those song titles lol

I tell you one thing it's catchy enough to give Madonna another top ten hit at least but we'll see. But that's just it, really.

I expected the video to be that anyway. The song's style was in that direction.

I think Clear Channel has pretty much guranteed that much. We'll see. As I said earlier, I don't see it having staying power.

Agreed.

But my Spice Girls reference was more towards the presentation, whereas Madonna is Ginger, Nicki is obviously Scary and MIA is Posh (she can barely be bothered). All redux for 2012.

Madonna has always been an expert marketer and she fails to disappoint here. But Katy Perry does THIS type of thing much better now, and she should, she is only in her twenties.
