What was the reaction to Tupac and Biggie's deaths? Anyone?
From both sides of the spectrum, white and black America.

Looking back, I agree with what Chris Rock said about their deaths.

What did he say? | |

He basically dismissed the account of their deaths as "assassinations".

were you not alive???
idk. it feels like 2pac's was the bigger mainstream media story AT THE TIME...
but Biggie's legacy has way overblown Pac's (and his music was better - not that 2pac wasn't also great) I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

1st...why is it that famous people are "assinated" and everyday people are "murdered"???
well I was 26 yrs old when 2Pac died...it wasn't as shocking as Biggie's because 2pac lived for almost a week afterwards...and Biggie died same day... I think the media over hyped the east coast/west coast war... I feel these 2 were rushed way to fast become "legends" as they are precieved today...truth is they had some good music...nothing earth shattering... but if not of all the media on what i feel was the dumbest battle and them being killed...they would of just been considerd rappers from the 90's...

The day Tupac died I was 24 yrs old sitting in a nursing class. One of my friends from high school was sitting next to me and someone came into the room and announced that Tupac was dead. Both of us cried. Tupac was the first celebrity that I cried for; Michael Jackson was the last. Tupac's death hit home because his songs touched a generation of young people who lived the lyrics he rapped about. Such a waste of a great life. People kept saying he was still alive, but when I saw his mother and Snoop cry on tv I knew he was really gone. Biggie's death on the other hand was not really a surprise. The rap atmosphere at that time kinda made u know he was next. I will always believe that Diddy had something to do with both their deaths.

...Huh? I wasn't meaning to imply that. I just wanted to know what the viewpoint was mainly in America, though if you're from another country and want to share your experience feel free. [Edited 1/15/12 17:48pm]

No offence taken!
It wasn't as big news here in the UK as the USA, but Tupac got 10 times more coverage that Biggie. The UK news reported its as another "this is what US black rappers do" approach. Sad, but understandable from an outside perspective. .

I love both Tupac and Biggie. I use to be into Biggie but now I find I am more of a 2pac fan but I still adore them both nonetheless.
I was around 4 or 5 when they both died... so obviously to young to remember....
I do believe that their is a bigger conspiracy around who exactly killed them...
Also, everyone claiming Biggies music was better than Pac needs to sit down LOL... Now I LOVE Biggie but here me out....
Pac had alot more political and complex lyrics than Biggie ever did not to mention most of all his lyrics were written by HIM himself... not knocking Biggie but just saying... I find Pacs music overall alot more challenging and complicated as well as creatively constructed... Nothing Biggie has ever done tops The 7 Theory Don Killuminati which was exactly written in 7 days...
Im lovin your threads lately smooth!! Nice

When you're my age, that one year makes a whole lot of difference.

Yeah I should know. I did notice a change after I turned 14 (voice got deeper, no more cracks, mustache grew more ).
