Please have some respect. Dispite her problems and what you feel about that...Amy's parents have just been told their daughter is dead ... they can be no greater loss that that of your child. So please spare a moment to think of the heartache they are feeling before you disrespect their daughter.

COMPASSION !!

Agreed.

My heart is breaking. sad I know she re-lapsed, and I don't want to assume what everyone on my timeline and on my FB is saying....but I am going to face facts. The demons she associated her body with did a lot of damage, I'm sure. Still, I had a glimmer of hope that she would be able to clean up and start wowing us again with her music. I just can't believe it's true. I'm sensitive as hell on this subject having similar situations in my family, so addiction and the consequeces are no joke to me.

She's only a few years older than me. I loved her sound, though. Moody, 60s, and it just got me through some hard times and boring nights. I walked to school with her in my ears. I've written countless poems and blogs with her crooning over my iPod dock speakers. Not once did I take joy or humor concerning what the drugs did to her. I always feared she would die young if she didn't get real help or stick with people who actually gave a concentrated damn about her.

I am so sorry that she is gone. R.I.P. Amy. You rocked that cat-eye eyeliner shape and the beehive like nobody's biz. You sang about F me pumps and tears drying on their own. Missing you....rose

Commenting here on this board really has no great purpose other than to let

fellow boarders know that I am sorry she died and that she has gained peace;

I guess we can all share in this remorse.

But as soon as I felt remorse, I realized that I was only personally pained

for her because she is a celebrity; don't forget the people who died in Norway

and the famine in Somalia. They weren't celebrities but everywhere, isn't

human life sacred?

So True. clapping

I agree. While I was a fan of her album Back to Black I'm not going to be fake and act like I didn't see this coming. I feel sadder for those people in Norway. She could have got help if she wanted it.

Nice post. Well said. Especially the last paragraph. It describes Amy perfectly.

I can't believe she's actually gone. I mean I'm not suprised given her self destructive lifestyle, but I am shocked and saddened.

This. I feel exactly like this at this moment.

To have a life and career - let alone TALENT - like hers, and just throw it all away.

"Back To Black" is a good contemporary soul album, and her take on that tune "Valerie" (on Mark Ronson's LP) is fabolous. BUT - that's about it for me. She was a good, jazzy singer, with severe issues.

Not familiar with her music but heard about her and know who she is. Anyway, just got done with a Marvin Gaye bio this morning and am familiar with all the pain Marvin lived with. Some of the stuff in his past I didn't know, like he was raped, on top of all the beatings, that he did some pretty bad things himself inspite of the sensitive image. Still, I don't understand the self-destructiveness, and that's coming from a musician myself who has self-destructive tendencies and bad stuff in the past too. Just don't get it with some of these people, whether it's nature, nurture or both that causes this. From my perspective, they have the best of all possible options externally, Marvin was a gorgeous, talented guy with oppurtunities many people never get. Drugs has to be a big part of it, but still mystifies me.

"Amy Winehouse was an artist of immense proportions and I am deeply saddened to learn of her tragic passing. Let me re-do what I said, so I don't come off as sounding heartless. I originally said:

"It's sad news, and it ALWAYS sucks when someone dies so young (what is it with musicians that die at 27,) but can you really say this is surprising? I mean, in all honesty, folks--Rehab was a true song. So, while it's tragic, can you honestly say you didn't see it coming?"

Let me explain that for people who may be in their brain thinking I'm being disrespectful by saying that:

It is extremely sad to me when a musician dies. Nobody knows how much music is my life. I don't like it when any musician dies, be me a fan of the musician or not. That's just the way my personality works, and I love every second of living like that. What the hell else could I have been besides a DJ? But that's beside the point.

So yes, Amy Winehouse being found dead is a blow to me. It always is.

BUT...

Let's be completely honest: Is it really that surprising? It's a sad thing, yes, and it's very unfortunate, because at only 27, she definitely had her whole life and her whole career ahead of her -- but is it really as surprising as some people are making it out to be?

I mean, seriously?

Its as ridiculous to be angry with her as it is to blame her! Do you think people want to be drug addicts? Addicts and people with depression and/or behavioural problems, for example, are all subject to being driven by something they have no control over - it controls them. invariably, its not that person's fault.

People wish they had the "fairy-tale" glamorous life of fame and fortune, but its rarely like that - just look at the casualties! The fact is, life is complex and full of many things you can't control that influence your life. You have no idea what Amy's life was like, her background, upbringing and experiences that made her who she was, so its impossible to judge (and not even anyone's place to).

Well, I am a musician, been around musicians, never really bought into that aspect of it though. Don't associate with people who use drugs and alcohol or don't have any self-control. I've had a hard life too, I don't use those things to excuse anything. And Michael, Marvin,Elvis, all heroes of mine all had great redeeming qualities but in the end, I just don't really understand it. There are lots of talented people out here, my belief is, you get shots (which is something, believe it or not, that you don't really control) you make the most of it, you don't throw it away. I think these guys would often be better off if they just had to get up and face a nine to five like everyone else, some people may be better off with that kind of oppression. You know, on friday and saturday nights I observe all the craziness that people create after being manipulated, mistreated, bossed around all week and realize some people can't handle any freedom. It's sad but somewhat confusing to me.

I haven't looked, but I'm sure there's a thread about the Norway tragedy, there really is no comparison, so why try and make one?

Many blues/jazz singers and addicts are what they are because of their PAIN, why demonize and criticize them?

As much as I have to admit it, aaliyahcashmere89's comment rings true for me as well. I wasn't a big fan, but I loved Frank and Back To Black. The stories of her abundant drug use and celebrity life was devastating and I distanced myself totally from that. I found her story and life to be one that was torturous as well. But at least, her music is a keepsake and it will prove to be the most important part of her short life. Unfortunately, her death just didn't surprise me much. That might be hard to take for some, but it didn't. It was sad, along with the situation in Norway. I will miss Amy though! R.I.P.

So having all those things didn't make her happy, she was obviously a very troubled person. So you're angry because someone felt so much pain they didn't know how to fix themself? disbelief
