this pic deserves a thread all on its own The Compromise Theory:
Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives. The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists. Is it a deal?

See, I similarly balked, and this album hasn't changed how I feel at all. It doesn't feel like growth to me, just more of the same (except not as good, for the most part). It's not the worst record I've ever heard, but I don't like it, and I think it should definitely be viewed in the context of mainstream pop, record sales, buzz and that kind of stuff rather than lasting, musically important work. In that sense it looks like being a huge success, and fair play to her. I'm not just being a snob as I like plenty of pop, and some far fluffier than Gaga, but I just can't dig this album on any level. I'm stilll baffled anyone finds it more than at best some camp fun with amusing lyrics. I'm glad others are enjoying as much as they are, though. Always nice to get new albums you love. I listended to this cd with no expectations other than hoping it would be more entertaining than the first two singles. I like Judas and Born This Way but wanted more variety. I'm glad I'm not trying to over analyze this music because it is sooo awesome. From beginning to end it is great. Its all about breaking barriers and loving you for you and everyone else to. She leads by example breaking language, sexual, political, racial, and musical genre barriers. This is what a pop record should be. Its actually exciting to listen to. To hell with Beyonce, Katy, and that dreadful new Britney cd. GaGa surpasses them all. Oh yea and how the hell can ayone compare Americano to La Isla Bonita?

I prefer that. Maybe it's childhood memories of camping holidays in France but it's just much catchier pop to my ears.
I remember when listening to the BTW album it just reminded me of and made me want to go listen to superior stuff like 'Voyage Voyage' by Desireless. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

To each their own. To me Americano is a far more exciting song. It sounds like something the B.Jaxx would have done. That is a very good thing to me. I'm not into a lot of top 40 pop music. Most of what I like is more dance oriented. Top 40 is just usually very boring to me. I have never even really been an MJ fan.

Well, it's your opinion, but what baffles me is how anyone can't thoroughly enjoy it. Not only is BTW a refreshing change of pace from the Britneys, Rhiannas, Beyonces and Katys of the world, with their everyday beats and boring, unadventurous lyrics, it is so versatile in its musical scope. Everything from dance, to pop, electronica, flamenco, techno and stadium rock is on that record. It's a pop masterpiece. Even her vocals are not only the strongest they've ever been, but they're also completely diverse. The same woman delivering power vocals on "Americano" is the same woman belting out the sweet, Tiffany-esque "Fashion of His Love", and it's amazing.
Meisme is right in stating that Gaga is tackling racial, sexual, gender, and political barriers on the record--something her contemporaries never do. And her lyrics are much more thought provoking. It's a brilliant album. "Get up off that grey line"

It's different to what those artists are doing. Normally whether I dig it a lot or not much at all I'll champion something different at least, over being fed the same old crap, but in this case I just can't like the album enough to get behind even that way of thinking with any real conviction. It's different, sure, but I don't see the depth musically, and it doesn't grab me hook-wise, with the odd exception ('marry the night' might be my favourite track). I never liked her previous stuff as anything more than good, catchy pop, but this album doesn't do that as well, to me, and what ppl are saying is diverse or daring musically I just can't see. I've listened to the album a handful of times now and it just makes me go listen to Rahsaan Patterson or Utada Hikaru instead, for some reason. Don't hate because not only is Gaga's new CD lyrically and sonically superior to Britney's, it will also smash the first-week sales for Brit-Brit's latest debacle. "Get up off that grey line"

Even critics of Lady Gaga claim she was going to do a million without the help of Amazon lol I knew it would top Brit-Brit's sales for her last album anyway.

Enough about Brit Brit ... of the 12 songs on Femme Fatale, she didn't contribute to the writing of any of them. Lame.

Don't you think you're taking it a bit out of context, though? Lady Gaga isn't in competition with Rahsaan or Utada. They're entirely different strati. So, if we take LG in context (which is to compare her to other American disco/dance-pop artists), she is diversifying. Whether you give that much merit or not depends on how you view the pop music landscape and how important it is to you.
Thinking in global terms, it is easy to find alternatives to LG's music. Off the top of my head, Robyn comes directly to mind as does Roisin Murphy. They have been doing "Born This Way" for the past decade. No one said boo about it. Hell, Body Talk is a way better album, when taken as a whole, than Born This Way is! But they aren't really competing for attention from each other. Robyn's audience is nigh he same as LG's (the gay contingent) but they appeal to different aspects.
Anyway, LG mostly appeals to me because everything she does is about 25 degrees to the left of whatever anyone else in the public eye is doing right now. I love that. It reminds me of Prince. Prince's music has always been fairly simple, but the filters through which those simple sounds went changed it and it instantly bonded to people's hearts and minds. LG does the same exact thing. They both speak life into a counter-culture of people brought together perhaps by no other similarities than their appreciation of the music - at the heart of which lies a message of love and acceptance and everything carnal and passionate. In the end, it's pop music, but it would be half-hearted to suggest the impact isn't there. Sometimes, you just gotta look for it in its proper context. [Edited 5/27/11 12:21pm]

I think I disagree. Kanye is a terrible lyricist, just like everyone else in rap right now. In that sense he's doing EXACTLY what everyone else is doing.
Tee hee hee... | |

Exactly. Gaga's detractors are quick to say that the Amazon discount is why it will go platinum in the first week, but Amazon or not, it would have anyway. Wasting your time making animated gifs is pointless! "Get up off that grey line"

Kanye is an epic artist imo if you going to compare him to the other rappers out now he is in his own lane. I’m a big fan but I never claimed he was lyrical he does have a couple memorable and clever raps but yes there are others lyrically better than him. He’s not the stereotypical rapper and I like that about him. Gaga and Kanye are very alike to me musically kanye is better though.
