I think she's definitely recorded some absolute classics (Crazy In Love, Single Ladies, Listen, Say My Name for example) but all tempered with crap like this. Ever since Lady Gaga blew up, Beyonce's aimed at the more avant-garde. But this is diabolical. I saw her in concert a couple of years ago and she is truly talented. Incredible live vocals. Huge productions. Great showmanship. This song does nothing to illustrate any of that.

you must be crazy if you think these are classics... i remeber i was at a family reunion and at the hotel, there was a party going on in one of the venues and when they played crazy in love the whole floor cleared... it was funny... lol well this was when the song first came out.

no one even liked single ladies until the video, and if you have to see the video and hear the song a million times to like it, its not a classic... and Listen was boring as crap and just so much over singing... it was such a lame song...

And that's enough to prove me wrong...

People will still be listening to those songs in 20 years time. No question.

no they won't because outside her stan base, no one is listening to Check on it, Crazy in love, and all her other ghetto hood rat athems.

these aren't classics, they are pretty forgettable.

It's been about 8 years since Crazy In Love was released and it's still played in almost every club around the world.

Single Ladies became an event. That doesn't happen just because a 'fan base' buys into it.

And here's Alicia Keys NOT using her body to sell
her music! I'm a HUGE Alicia fan, but she should remember this if she ever wants to chastise others for doing the same thing:

Single Ladies also became a novelty. Too many dudes in leotards trying to match her step for step. Memorable? Yes. Classic? No. As for the club play you're exactly right but most people don't throw on the club jams when they are chilling at home doing regular stuff. I'm not going to throw a dinner party and have 'Ring The Alarm' or 'Freakum Dress' on the stereo. Her music does work in a club but that's where it's going to stay unless she steps it up to match her voice.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

^^^ Right and I agree. I never understood the whole Beyonce is so classy thing as far as her image which exactly represents the exact opposite. There is a BIG difference from being sexy versus just being flat out slutty which is what Ive always gotten from Beyonce she tries tooooo hard. Take even an artist like Alicia Keys for example.. while I do find her to be just as overrated as Beyonceat at least she keeps clothes on and does not parade around acting slutty on stage, videos and attire. Shes attractive and people see that WITHOUT all of that. I wish women would stop doing that ESPECIALLY black women.... its SO TIRED. I would much rather want to be known for my good music, for my incredible way of speaking my mind and lyrical content THAN for JUST being sexy.

Yes, and she doesn't have to dress like Hilary Clinton to be classy. In that song photo for instance, she could have worn that yellow dress without the sides cut away and looked sexy AND classy. Alicia Keys for the most part, manages to do it. Others who come to mind are Paula Patton and Amel Larrieux. You can be feminine, beautiful and sexy without having your behind hanging out.

I'm not trying to be funny; but, Janet uses her body a LOT to help her image. Some of her photos are downright pornographic. YET, I never hear people talking about her "trashy" or overly sexy image. Can you image the crap that Beyonce would get if she did some of the poses/photos that Janet has done over the years? Remember, this is the lady who said during her Rhythm Nation era that it was NOT sexy when a woman TRIES to be sexy. What do you call what Janet is STILL doing(simulating oral sex, butt hanging out in see through cat suits, etc.) It doesn't make it right just because it is Janet. Beyonce has NEVER done or gone to places image wise that Janet has. Let's not be hypocrites when it comes to Beyonce. I am so tired of the Beyonce bashing on EVERYTHING that this CLASSY, TALENTED lady does.

I think the issue is that Beyonce is talented enough NOT to have to resort to disrobing. Janet is moderately talented and the latter part of her career is almost exclusively sex based.

It's almost beneath Beyonce to do that. If you know what I mean.

When I saw that video with her and Lady Gaga, which was basically a whore-down, it was difficult to conjure with. Gaga without a teapot on her head would barely make the papers. Gaga with a teapot on her head is front page news.

Beyonce is too good to have to reduce herself to that.

Watch her performance of 'Listen' on the UK's X-Factor. She duets with Alexandra Burke, herself a decent singer. Beyonce just blows her completely out of the water and off the stage. Completely mesmeric vocal ability.

When she keeps her clothes on you remember how supremely gifted she is.

janet NEVER had to sell sex, during her first 4 albums she didn't, Control and Rhythm Nation some would argue her best, she was FULLY COVERED. that is something beyonce can't do.

Now i will agree sometimes janet takes the sex to far, but people have complained about that, but know this, she doesn't have to if she doesn't want to. Her music and dance speaks for itself.

Beyonce HAS TO, Rihanna, HAS TO, janet doesn't.

Yes janet does write, direct, dance, and produce. Contrary to what you think, she is NOT pushing down everyone's throat that she wrote this, or produced that, like beyonce lies and does.

Beyonce hasn't had one single released that has beat out janet's catalog. So stop throwing shade on janet jackson for a lesser celebrity.

Well your definition of 'classic' is painfully limited. People have to be listening to these songs on their headphones at home for them to be classics?!?

I don't listen to Purple Rain on my headphones. At home. On the train. Anywhere. Does that mean I don't rate it as a classic?

My definition of 'classic' is a song that transcends it's airplay. Single Ladies has become a part of our cultural fabric. Whether you like the song or not. I, for example, am not a huge fan of the Rolling Stones. I actually think that their completely over-rated. Guys with the right complexion and the right connections. Black sound (ish), white faces. Does that mean that Satisfaction isn't a 'classic' record? Whether I like it or not? Or 'Angie' is a classic record?

Mine and your personal opinions mean absolutely nothing. You could hate Billie Jean, for example. But that doesn't mean it's not a 'classic' record.

Single Ladies, for whatever reasons, will be played on radios and in clubs and on TV for years and years to come. Whether you like the song or not.

I'm a Janet fan. I've seen her live on her Rhythm Nation tours and on her Janet tour. Beyonce wipes the floor with her as a live entertainer. Get both of them to stand on stage and sing a song and see which one raises the roof. Let's forget that Janet's tours were almost exclusively mimed.

Rhythm Nation was an incredible record. But the video for 'Love Will Never Do' was as risqué as anything at the time on the pop charts. The proof is in the pudding. Janet - Jam + Lewis = nudity.

Beyonce is unquestionably the greater talent. That's not even up for debate!

Who ever said Beyonce was a better PERFORMER than Janet needs SERIOUS HELP. Some fans just surprise me more and more... Yes Beyonce is vocally more talented but Janet can dance better and puts on a MUCH better show...Janet in her PRIME

I also find Beyonces VOCAL TALENT to be overrated. Yes the girl can sing but she cant sing better than Whitney and Aretha.. Im not even a fan of Christina Aguilera but she can sing WAY better than Beyonce. Beyonce is a descent singer but there is nothing SPECIAL about her singing talent. There are plenty of VOCAL talents just like her own now in the industry and MORE to come in the future AND some that sing alot better than her... Also, all her music is only good for the clubs... she has not produced one classic song.

chile please, YOU WISH. beyonce can't dance as good as janet, and can't sing like mariah.

Janet is more then just moderately talented she is way more talented then beyonce and doesn't have to try to be a legend or Icon. It just came naturally.

Yes janet does write, direct, dance, and produce. Contrary to what you think, she is pushing down everyone's throat that she wrote this, or produced that, like beyonce lies and does.

Beyonce hasn't had one single released that has beat out janet's catalog. So stop throwing shade on janet jackson for a lesser celebrity.

You should really do your research. That you think Beyonce is a better performer is your opinion, but let's not get crazy with this Janet- Jam and Lewis = nudity stuff. Janet has been comfortable enough to show skin since 1993, which was LONG before she, Jam and Lewis took a break in working with each other. Also, her RN tour was not mimed, and neither was the janet. tour for the most part. Most of the VR tour was live as well. Beyonce, if anything, has snatched more than a few pages from Janet's live performance book, as evidenced in several of Bey's performances. The girl can sang, for sure, but just because Bey can sang does not make Janet a lesser singer. Janet has also never had to try too hard, which is something that Beyonce has done on several occasions. Bey is a hell of a performer, but she's not Janet.

I am so tired of the Beyonce bashing on EVERYTHING that th

is CLASSY, TALENTED lady does.

Nobody is being a hyprocrite... Janet standing by herself as an artist there is alot I can honestly criticize and find overrated about her BUT someone had compared her to Beyonce... As far as Im concern mostly everyone here mostly used the RN Janet as an example NOT JANET THROUGH HER ENTIRE CAREER in comparision to Beyonce. Janet RN is Janet in her PRIME.Yea Janets last 4 albums sucked because she sold her soul to mainstream and reverted to saling sex. However, Rhythm Nation AND Control hold true to classic material compared to her later years. Beyonce HAS YET to make quality music and to exactly make a classic song. And JUST because Beyonce has not done some of the photoshoots Janet has done.. does not make her image classier. It is still all the same. She still sales sex and emphasizes her looks more so than her music and she does not have to even the lyrical content in her music and how she displays herself in her music videos... Now I personally feel the comparision is unnessary because there is nothing to compare.. Comparing for example an artist like Erykah Badu to Beyonce I think is more appropiate because their both current. Janet's Rhtyhm Nation was ONLY brought up to show a woman can STILL be sexy without TRYING to hard and being to revealing..JUST THE MUSIC VIDEO not Janets ENTIRE Career.
