Well, I had always wanted to see Janet and went to A/C last night to see her. I actually had tickets for Saturday show as well, but I have sold them off.

I did not like the overall sound at the Borgata and there were 2 huge speakers on either side hanging down over the stage....that did seem to block people...

It was great that she did just her 'hits' ..it was nice to hear all of those at one time...I have to say though that maybe because my last concert was Prince I had super high expectations and was spoiled..I also love Prince more.... I realize Janet is not a musician but she is very talented obviously...

Her voice is great, she sounds great live...which brings me to the point I was not happy with. She has the ability to sound almost the same each time she sings a song...But there was way too much lip synching absolutely.background tracks, and sining over recorded stuff. It was a real disapointment. The songs in her first set (before change of clothes) were fast and those were the songs she lip sang alot to. The thing was at this venue you could often tell when she was singing and not..I caught a couple slip ups..and I was not looking for it. Her voice got louder than normal when she did sing that is how you could tell..

Also, while she sweat her tail off and danced alot, there was a piece of me that thought she was a bit sluggish...I have seen her give better moves/faster...I just now see she had a show in DC Thursday night, and A/C Friday and Sat...Maybe she is tired..I would like to go tonight only to compare the shows to see if I had an offnight...but I sold my tickets.

The crowd was pretty calm too..not alot of dancing and I did not feel that connect with the audience that often comes with other artistes...She does seem really sweet though..

One thing-I did not particularly like her band, backup singers or dancers theme she had. I know it was a smaller venue, and was supposed to be different but maybe it was the theme she was going for I don't know..

'Maybe I am the only one to see last night this way, but actually I think that the lip synching and band playing over tracks just sort of soured it..I expected more from a talented performer such as her..

I would of course see her again someday...and it was a treat to hear all 'oldies' and hits all in one shot...that in itself was a treat..but I so wished she did sing more live because I appreciated it when she did...I would still suggest going to see her..I still enjoyed myself but if you know you are going to have lip synching in advance maybe you will not be surprised as I was.

I so appreciate an opinion from a person who has actually been to one of her recent concerts. I'm sorry that you were disappointed in one respect, but it sounds like you weren't in another. You stated that Janet "lipped" songs (as they put it on this board) and sang others. My beef with the person I responded to earlier was whether or not she "lipped" all the songs or not. Other folks who have been to her concerts enjoyed it more than you. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much. And, no, she isn't Prince! I went to four concerts in the last three months--and I can say the man is still at the top of his game! But, I am still looking forward to Janet's concerts.

No I know it read negative....I did enjoy it actually..lol... ..My husband enjoyed it less ( he loved Prince though ..I guess with 'classic' perfomers, I assumed it would be ALL LIVE. It must be hard to perform live for sure..but I would rather hear mistakes, etc than recording..but that is just a personal beef I have..(I play instrument that is probably why).

I think you and I came away feeling the same thing. She was a bit slower in her movements but in all fairness I don't expect someone her age to perform the same way they did years ago, so she gets my pass on that. I too am a huge Prince fan and went to the NJ/NY shows, plus, seeing a bunch indie bands that I support in the NY area, so I got spoiled too with the live sound. At one point I was wondering if the band was playing at all or were they just pretending. Either, it was a fun nignt of dancing because the hits were fun to hear along with the special effects and lights. I just think she should go live and let the band play their ass off.

Exactly! I actually just watched a bunch of pieces from her Velvet Rope tour..I don't care about the glam and huge productions....just give me good musicians and live and I am fine..Throw in some dancing too if she wants...that is fine..does not even have to be the whole show..

BUt that VR tour for sure she was live..and there was a difference..She really has a beautiful voice..

BTW Janet is 2 years older than me..I don't expect her to dance the way she once did..if she can fine..BUT...if that was the case I would rather hear her voice...she doew not have to dance..Therefore IO would have assumed she would have let her voice shine..

Also I was wondering if the band was playing or what?!!..lol..I cannot explain it just seemed like an immature band..I don't know how to describe it...

But still great time! Maybe I should have kept my Sat tix and sold Friday...I was tired too..!! In closing I got to see someone I always wanted to and never was able due to not living in the US when she toured over the past 2 decades..but I am glad I went..I will go again someday and maybe I will get a more live show...

I went to the TVR tour too and it wasn't live but there were a few songs that were. You could tell because her voice is paper thin and she was barely audible to the audience. I think it was "Go Deep" and "That's The Way Love Goes". I forgot, I'm gonna have to check the DVD again.

I just went to youtube and it was like Velvet Rope part 1-26 or somethig like that...so there were songs there..that was my reference point...

I remembered that concert. And yeah I could barely hear her when she DID sing live lol but definitely heard her shout though.

LOL..huh..What I was trying to say was since I never went to another show of hers to compare it, I had heard VR was a tour she sang alot live on noreso than normal. I don't own the DVD so I went to you tube and looks like someone downloaded it in pieces--assuming VR1 through 27 or 28..assuming that amount of songs. I listened to parts of it and compared it to what I saw Fri night../Def more live singing for VR...

Unless..and this is a big unless....Maybe she IS singing but to be honest it is so low/quiet and she has the prerecords on there...it is basically lip synching..There were for sure lip synching parts overall..

Still..as I said I am glad I went I just know when a performer can do more..it would be nice...

Maybe she was saving herself up for last nights show..DID anyone go?? Would love to hear..

Yeah I gotta agree. The more I think about it, the more I think there was more lip synching going on than i initially thought. I did think that the sound of her voice was very very different w/ the shoutouts than with the singing. Just a different sound/tone to it..

But if she is... I dunno. It was a fun show, entertaining, and awesome to see her. She doesn't have the strongest voice - that i've always known. But she took her opportunities and made a terrific career, and she's clearly putting in the work right now. She looked absolutely great and the dancing was spot-on.

well you have a point there. Seeing Janet at Radio City was my first and will be my last show. I just have my preference and I don't want to pay to hear a cd playing in the back. To me live should be live. I'm glad I got to see her, I can check it off my list and cherish the memory and move on. but you do have to understand it does take away from the show somewhat to some people.

That is me too...I paid to see a live concert. Of course I paid to see her too. Nice she danced and I do believe she has talent. BUT...it definitely took away from the show for me...If I saw her in person, I would tell her I enjoyed her show I just wish it was more of 'her' live and she did a great job otherwise. I am glad I saw her...I guess her handlers will pay the right people to write glowing reviews (notice I said handlers not her) and that fact is omitted from most reviews. Had I known that ahead of time..well then I would have said it is what it is....

Funny I just posted over at the board where I saw referenced here for Janet...and no one responded to my review-good, bad or otherwise.... Even a die hard fan must think twice about complete lippping or CD instead of live. I mean I always heard of Britney for ex lipping...but not Janet.. I just never heard that out there but I guess I did not think she did...she is way above it..

For sure, some parts of the show would be acceptable if she is dancing her bottom off..You cannot sing well and dance at the same time for huge lengths of time...BUT...too much..
