So I went to see Janet last night at Radio City. What can I say, it was a great show, we danced all night, hardly sat down. Janet looks phenomenal, great body, flawless skin, she's absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Whatever people may say about her, you can't deny her success, she has great songs, all hits, all numbers ones and they were all fun to dance too. The only thing I would change(which I know yall die hards going jump down my throat for pointing out) is to not have any of the cd tracks she had playing along with the band and the three back up singers. I'm just old school and I think a great band and backup singers should be able to shine through to give the whole live experience. She also came in late on que on the lip synch a few times, most notably during That's the Way Love Goes, but she did sing live for the most part (I think lol ). My favorite part of the night was Nasty, that song will forever be a timeless classic, especially towards the end where she always throws in a remix and crowd went crazy. Miss You Much, Rhythmn Nation, When I Think of You, Love Will Never Do were awesome. Had alot of fun and the crowd loved her! cool

Just want to add too that the tour book was beautiful. One of the best I've seen. Did a beautiful job laying out her career with pics and bios. Very nice.

Ahh! I'm chomping at the bit! I'm going to see her 2nite in D.C. and I cannot wait!

Just got back from seeing Janet - was incredibly impressed. Had a great time, she is in TERRIFIC shape and sounded great. yeah, there was some lip syncing, but most of the time she sang, and she kept up w/ the dancers half her age.

My only complaint: the show went from 9pm to 1037pm, and i'd say that given all the times she was offstage, she was only on stage for about an hour. Given the price of the tickets, that was a bit disappointing. Also, she did alot of medleys and song snippets, which I didn't mind overall but sometimes I thought a few of the songs got short shrift.

That said, it was an absolutely awesome night and it is obvious she really puts in the work. She doesn't half-ass it. Kudos to her.

I just saw the show as well and she completely rocked the house! My seat was 5 rows back from the stage, so it was like I was right up on her! She looks amazing, and sounded great. She also moved well. She is certainly giving her all and it showed. She dedicated I Get Lonely to DC, and when the video came at the start of the show, the crowd went WILD. She then came out from the stage (as opposed to walking down the aisle the way she did at some of the other shows), and it was on. She danced, struted, and worked that stage. The crowd got a kick out of the clips from her various TV shows and films during the first intermission. She even included a bit of Throb in Make Me, and during another intermission her band and backup singers performed a rocking rendition of What About. She performed the ballads in her catsuit and not the gown this time, and Black Cat and All Nite were cut. Gil Duldulao was in the audience telling some guy that he'll be dancing at Thursday night's show, and her trainer Tony Martinez was seen walking through the aisles. Of course, her bodyguard Joey was right by the stage at all times. It was a magical night for sure.

http://www.bet.com/news/music/2011/03/21....music-hall.html

On Friday night, legendary pop icon Janet Jackson hit New York's Radio City Music Hall for the first of three sold-out performances at the venue for her Number Ones: Up Close & Personal Tour. This is the diva's first time in the Big Apple since the Rock Witchu Tour in 2008.

The Rock Witchu Tour was plagued by several cancellations, skeptical critics and Jackson cutting the tour short due to illness. Having attended the Rock Witchu Tour, I was doubtful that Miss Janet could still deliver. Silly me—never doubt a Jackson.

Forty-four-year-old Janet is back. Focused less on massive productions and more on intimacy with her fans, the six-time Grammy winner brought the pop and soul to a diverse New York crowd and showed why she is an eternal icon. Inspired by her critically acclaimed performance as the headliner at the Essence Musical Festival last summer, Janet brought style, vocals, and her signature dancing. She flowed with confidence and commanded the stage, with not a step out of place. This is what you call a living legend.

In each venue, Janet dedicates select No. 1 hits to that particular city. For New York City, the videos to "Rhythm Nation" and "The Best Things in Life Are Free," her duet with the late, great Luther Vandross, played. This amped the audience for Jackson's arrival.

Almost magically, she appeared on stage in a space-age cat suit, which wowed audiences on last year's American Idol, and the slicked-back short cut that gives her a striking resemblance to Halle Berry. Janet opened with a fan favorite "The Pleasure Principle," a 1987 hit that was originally written for Prince.

Her fluidity, focus and precision were evident in every strut, point and vintage dance move. This was a different Janet than 2008, and the best I have seen her since The Velvet Rope Tour well over a decade ago.

The fans clearly appreciated her ferociousness as she went hits like “Control,” “What Have You Done For Me Lately?,” “Feedback,” "You Want This," and "Nasty." After over 30 minutes of aggressive performing, Janet went for a wardrobe change, and the audience got a taste of her acting career with clips from Good Times, Diff'rent Strokes and Poetic Justice. The hardcore fans dramatically shouted out the lines to the "No, mama, no!" monologue as Penny from Good Times.

Janet returned for a set of ballads, which included "Nothing," "Come Back to Me," "Let's Wait Awhile" and her Oscar-nominated song "Again." Janet is not known for explosive vocals, but she knows her voice well. In a venue like Radio City Musical Hall, which is known to feature some of the greatest vocalists of all time, Jackson finally had a chance to use her voice in a way I have never heard before. She had control and power. While some of the vocally challenged pop stars of today may have been inspired by Miss Jackson, Janet is not singing wildly off-key or lip-syncing for her life.

Miss Jackson was deeply grateful for the love New York gave her as she rocked other classics like her No. 1 R&B hit "I Get Lonely" (a song that got the most of love of the night), "If" and "Scream" (R.I.P. Michael Jackson). She ended with one of the best-selling singles of all time, "Together Again."

At one point, Janet declared, "They can't stop me, New York!" No one ever has. This is a woman who has survived the brutal entertainment industry with class, style and a humble spirit. Even when she has stumbled, Damita Jo has pulled herself up by her garter belts and proudly paved the way for so many artists after her. Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Beyoncé Knowles, Rihanna—you can see Janet Jackson in all of them. This is one tour not to miss, one where you can see a pop icon who has done it all, giving you her all.

Not sure exactly, but let me tell you something. Janet sang much more than she lipped. As I said, I was close to the stage, and I saw her laughing and singing, and there's no way with some of the ad-libs and giggling going into singing and vice-versa that she was lip-synching much. During DRM, her dancers came up and tickled her, and she laughed out loud while singing the lyrics.

She sang mostly live but it was hard to tell because the only time I noticed her lip synching was when she messed up a little and wasn't on que, and some of the vocals sounded just like the cd. Her band and back up singers are great, I just think she should leave the pre-recorded stuff out of it and let the band and singers rock on! It did not take away the greatness of the show, just my own personal pet peeve.

Gotta admit though, the illusion is great. She's had 20+ years practicing the lip synching so she has it down to a science to the point you can't tell. lol

In past tours the clear give away was when she would sneak her hand back to her mic rig on her belt just above her ass - one click and the live vocals were off and "pre-recorded" live vocals were on.

I'm not decrying the use of backing tracks for parts of the show - just keen to know what to expect *if* she ever announces the rumoured Sydney show.

Well i think there is NO EXCUSE for lip syncing all of her show - especially the ballads section. As a fan it is really embarassing if she does do that.
