Don't be a drag, just be a queen
This makes me want to put on my highest heels and challenge johnart to a walk-off. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

I'm a Lady Gaga fan, but I'm not feeling this song that much. I agree with everyone that she overhyped the hell out of this song. It might sound better on a different sound system or at a club but for now, it's not hitting me. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that |

Right. How do you lose your mojo after an album and a half??? Oh yeah hyping it like you created the LGBT answer to "A Change Is Gonna Come".
That's exactly how I felt about it. It felt like she was deliberately making an LGBT anthem instead of just writing something from the heart and letting it become an anthem on it's own. She needs to stop with all of this bragging and let the music speak on it's own. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that |

Good grief! It's a poor rip-off of Madonna's "Express Yourself".
Not worth the $1.29 iTunes cost. Thankfully, I first previewed it before making a purchasing decision. |

Well that's not the worst thing in the world. It's nice that someone writes something with us in mind and we don't have to look for meaning we can relate to in something that was not even written for us. I for one appreciate it and hope they play the shit out of it at every Pride celebration this year.

It's not wrong at all but to my ears, it just felt kinda forced. I'm gay and I totally appreciate the point of it and that's she's down with us but I'm still not feeling the song. And there's no question that this song will be played at all the Pride events around the world. You'd have to be deaf, dumb and blind to think that it wouldn't happen. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". What question? Not mine. I ask because I think it would change your perspective. The give away is that you protest her writing a song about LGBT when there ain't any other songs in music that freely talk about it on a grand scale. There's LGBT artists and such like Meshell, but on a global scale, we've never had someone writing songs specifically about the gay culture. Like Johnart, that ain't a bad thing to have songs written about LGBT stuff as opposed to gay people simply changing all the "She"s to "He"s or vice versa.
Why complain that someone is actually talking about something other than the status quo? I guess now that the novelty of gay people has worn off, they shouldn't talk about being gay anymore?!?! |

Deservedly so.
Pretty much anything by any artist with too much exposure will begin to sound "forced". It's inevitable. I don't think it's a bad song tho, even if a bit contrived. |

And that might be it, the fact that she's every where. Maybe I'm on Lady Gaga overload right now. It might sound better in time but right now, I'm not feeling it. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that |

Nah. Nothing special. A contrived anthem from an artist who's thinks she's more important than she really is. And I generally like the Gaga.

It seems to be the nature of the industry right now. I'm still waiting for Beyonce (whom I like well enough most of the time) to go live in a cave and learn to tone her shit down for like five fuckin years, but no...now I see that snippets of her next single are popping up. |

I did not say that it was wrong to have an LGBT anthem or have gay songs, I just felt like it was forced and not from the heart. Damn! Is it that serious? Besides, I could be dead wrong with that assessment and if I am, then I own up to that and I take it back. But one thing is true, regardless of whether it's from the heart or not, in giving it more thought, it is a song for us who are LGBT and that is NOT a bad thing and I appreciate that. I might not feel the song but if someone else does, then awesome, the song is for them and they better run with it! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that |

Everyone else pretty much summed it up: sounds like "Express Yourself 2011" and is a bit underwhelming. Honey, stop talking and just create the music. |

For some reason this doesn't surprise me one bit. I guess if most, if not all of Pop radio is waiting with baited breath for your new single to drop. She was smart to announce its release being today on Twitter last week. She really seems to have the pop world eating out the palm of her hand right now anyway. So, not surprised.
I just want something else from her. [Edited 2/11/11 10:31am] |
