I heard the acapella audio...it's not Michael.
The "whoops" sound sampled.
And the only part where you think could be Michael is when he sings falsetto on the bridge.
It's not Michael's song. [Edited 11/9/10 0:03am]

People, people. Let's stop calling people trolls. It's inconsiderate and supposes too much of their motives.
They're just either delusional or stupid.

Teddy was either in or it and not paid because he knew it wasn't MJ, or he wasn't in on it, and now regrets his involvement to some degree.
The question is..who gave Eddie Casico the "rope" to start this mess with? MJ Fan 1992-Forever

I might get moderated for my previous comment.
But seriously speaking. I'm a pretty cynical person myself, but I do think there's always place for honesty. Apparently it doesn't seem to fucking matter these days.
I've already seen quite a few posts on other boards laughing at the fans coming up with "conspiracy theories" . What's equally baffling is the media's neutral attitude to it, which just reeks of their laziness to do any proper research on it. If you just take a few listens to it and play a track by Michael himself after it, it should be VERY obvious to anyone it's not Michael. The lyrics don't make that much sense either - why would Michael refer to himself in the 3rd person in that manner? I've also seen one newsbit mentioning that that the "pop singer Prince" was staying upstairs in the house where Michael was recording the new material. Of course, that would have been his son. It just proves how lazy these journalists can be.

If what's been said on different forums, Sony and the Estate DEFINITELY know what fans think
and it ain't pretty "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

So I'm either to believe that either:
1. This is Michael Jackson and, in the 30 years of him releasing solo songs and albums as an adult, this is the only track that immediately struck me as sounding NOTHING like him at all, or
2. This is not him.
Also, I find it funny that:
1. It doesn't sound like Mike but it DOES sound like Jason Malachi, and 2. There were reports prior to release that these songs were not Michael Jackson, and the songs were not recorded with Teddy Riley, Rodney Jerkins, Quincy Jones, Bruce Swedien, Akon, will.i.am, or any other major producer or engineer... but rather in some home in Jersey.
If you think its him, cool. As for my ears, nah, that ain't him. [Edited 11/9/10 2:23am]

If they're still changing the cover art then there's a slight change the CDs haven't been pressed either. Or, the CDs have been already pressed, but the booklets have not been printed.

I love how in the acapella version of this song, it sounds like they said: "Hmm, we're gonna randomly throw in this You Rock My World 'WHOOOOOO' right here, here, here, here, annnnnnnd, here. Oh, and let's put this slowed down Leave Me Alone "AAAAOOOOW' riiiiiiight here, here, oooh, and one more here. That should do it." Ha ha ha....
Unlike all of Michael's other acapella releases, there's absolutely no coherence in this one at all. This stuff is so ridiculous it's becoming comical. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Yeah plus, almost every acapella I've heard has alot of background noise... Because much to the dismay of most Producers, Mike can't sit still during a vocal session, during some part you'll hear him snapping or stomping his feet. This is overdubbed to death, There is definitely some fuckery going on... I am a Rail Road, Track Abandoned

[edit - new link below, what I've written here isn't necessarily relevant]
Wait a fucking minute... This is just a thought. Could it be possible that the song is called "Michael Jackson" and the "group" behind is "Breaking News" with Jason Malachi or some other individual capable of impersonating Michael? There is nothing on www.michaeljackson.com that would imply the song is "the new single" from the forthcoming record or anything like that. As of speaking, there's nothing on the site itself that would directly attribute the song to Michael Jackson. The video is titled "Breaking News - Michael Jackson" and it is quite uncommon to place the performer's or group's name after the track title.
It could be a test of some sort or a bizarre attempt at hyping the record up, although I might be just letting my imagination fly too far here. I am still more convinced that this is simply a scamming effort gone too far, but perhaps there is a possibility for something like this. Given the way the track is presented on the site, they are still able to back out from it. There doesn't seem to be anything incriminating about it, unless it also appears on a CD later on.
For that matter, what were the official announcements concerning this track like? Or were they just from secondary sources?

They released a teaser on Thursday or Friday, can't remember which date, then released the track at midnight eastern time on Monday morning.
Plus, they say its a song from the upcoming album. [Edited 11/9/10 3:05am]

I'm hearing now that due to controversy this song has been pulled from 'Michael'. As far as I'm aware, "Breaking News" was never intended to be a single. It was put out as an album teaser. It seems strange that Sony would randomly upload a song, more than a month from the release date, that isn't planned to be a single. Unless they were testing the waters, seeing how obvious it is to fans that it's not Michael. Now that they've found out it is really obvious, maybe they'll not only pull "Breaking News" but all the Cascio songs that are sung by Jason Malachi (or whoever they hired). Because I suspect the rest of the Cascio songs are fake too.
Some of the song titles have been revealed and they all sound like someone has tried to come up with song titles that Michael Jackson might have come up with. Like "Breaking News" is obvious because Michael always had a problem with the media and wrote songs in the past like "Tabloid Junkie" and "Privacy". "Monster" is like "Thriller", Ghosts" and "Threatened". "Keep Your Head Up" sounds like to optimistic, positive type of song people would think Michael Jackson would come up with. I don't know what "Water" is. But do you see what I mean? They are all song titles that someone would imagine Michael Jackson would write. They sound like all the other fake MJ song titles we've heard in the past. So I am assuming they are all fake.

The first part of your post could be true. I too thought it was odd they'd release a track a month in advance for free. They did it for This Is It, but it seems odd that for something this big they'd do it again. However, the smarter thing would have been to have 5 or 10 people in a controlled setting hear the track to determine what they think. Such things are done all the time. Have a few people who aren't in the business come in, make sure they have no recording devices or electronics on them, and have them listen to the tracks. This move they've just pulled... it is beyond unbelievable. I'm still in shock any reputable company would pull something like this.
As for the quality, how many angry songs does Michael Jackson have where he doesn't sing in his angry voice? This would be the first. Perhaps its because the imitator can't copy MJ's angry voice. MJ would have been all over that track if it was real.. he'd have been doing "dahs" before and after every word, breathing in and out all over the place, and the end part would have been "You keep on, you know it, you're just breaking it"... you get the point. There's none of that here.
I actually can hear Mike singing this, and I think Teddy Riley did a decent job producing it for what its worth. He has some of Mike's ad-libs in the perfect places. But that's just the thing... how can someone who knew Mike so well, who obviously had a good understanding of Mike's ad-libs and such have a hand on this track? Let's go out on a limb and say that this is Michael Jackson. It doesn't sound like Michael Jackson, and that's the whole issue.

It does seem unbelievable. But this is actually going to work out really well for them I think. I'm assuming at least some of the songs on the new album are really sung by Michael Jackson. After hearing "Breaking News", fans are going to flip the fuck out when they hear a real Michael Jackson song they've never heard before. All Sony need to do now is leak that "Breaking News" is a fake, officially announce that it's been pulled from the album, give it a couple of weeks, then release a real MJ song from the new album. People will go nuts for it. If there's one decent song on this new album that is actually sung by Michael Jackson, it will be massive!

@marquegnies beat is pretty much mj'ish but the vocals are mediocre. its missing something and its obvious.
@m_electric it was okay, but its not MJ. i would of done a better job, sony should of called me up. Sony are wrong to sell it as MJ product.
