What gets me are the amount of people around here that think Madonna makes "r&b" music. To me, the closest thing Madonna has ever done to r&b was "Holiday". The rest of her catalog is POP!

Madonna is pop. But to my ears 'Secret' and 'Take A Bow' are R&B, so is the bulk of 'Bedtime Stories'. Dallas Austin, Babyface, Dave Hall? hello?

Despite that the track was release in 2000, a whole lot of hip-hop/r&b tracks of the 2000's never really change from the 1990's sound. That's what happen when too many producers & composers are using the same type of keyboard workstations (Kong Trinity & Kong Trition).

I am really loving this thread. For the most part back in the '90s the only R & B tracks I heard were the ones that crossed over to the pop charts and were huge hits. It's great to hear some obscure (to me) stuff.

I think you guys are confused. An artist can belong to a genre but still release songs belonging to another genre. Yes Spice Girls and Madonna are pop because the bulk of their songs is pop. That doesn't mean that every single song they released is pop. 'Holler', 'Secret', 'Take A Bow' and '4 Minutes' is R&B not pop. For example Janet and En Vogue are R&B. That doesn't mean that 'Black Cat' or 'Free Your Mind' are R&B songs because they are clearly rock. Also whether those songs appeared on R&B charts or not is helpful but not 100% relevant. 'Beat It' charted on the rock charts, does that make it a rock song?

Just because many of the producers and writers on that album were r&b, doesn't make it r&b. That album is a POP record for sure.

So since Babyface produced Eric Clapton's "Change The World", does that make it an r&b track...no.

If you consider it r&b, that tells me you aren't really familiar with the genre outside of the r&b trax that are on pop radio.
