I love Bedtime Stories, it's not as 'Pop' or Electro as her other albums, I'd say it's just Madonna's take on R&B, just like American Life included her (awful) take on rapping lol

lol Relax TVD. To be honest, I'm pretty sure no one here cared if you returned or not because either way, it still doesn't change the fact that the Spice Tramps aren't R&B. AND THEY NEVER WILL BE! cool

I think you guys are confused. An artist can belong to a genre but still release songs belonging to another genre. Yes Spice Girls and Madonna are pop because the bulk of their songs is pop. That doesn't mean that every single song they released is pop. 'Holler', 'Secret', 'Take A Bow' and '4 Minutes' is R&B not pop. For example Janet and En Vogue are R&B. That doesn't mean that 'Black Cat' or 'Free Your Mind' are R&B songs because they are clearly rock. Also whether those songs appeared on R&B charts or not is helpful but not 100% relevant. 'Beat It' charted on the rock charts, does that make it a rock song?

No confusion at all. My stance is that the Spice Girls aren't an R&B group, so there's no confusion as to what category they are. They are a pop group. They may have had a couple of cuts that could be classified as R&B but they're undeniably a pop group.

Madonna is pop. But to my ears 'Secret' and 'Take A Bow' are R&B, so is the bulk of 'Bedtime Stories'. Dallas Austin, Babyface, Dave Hall? hello?

Just because many of the producers and writers on that album were r&b, doesn't make it r&b. That album is a POP record for sure.

So since Babyface produced Eric Clapton's "Change The World", does that make it an r&b track...no.

If you consider it r&b, that tells me you aren't really familiar with the genre outside of the r&b trax that are on pop radio.

I am familiar with the genre... And the genre does include the commercial R&B played on pop radio believe it or not....

It seems to me that people are categorising R&B and other genres not based on the sound but based on who sings them, what his/her previous albums sounded like and whether the song in question is played or not on R&B radio format and yes on colour as well. There was some guy in another forum who was arguing that Usher's OMG is full of R&B influences... I mean a song belongs to a certain genre because of how it sounds and not because a group of radio djs decides it should belong in this or that genre or because the artist in question has excelled in this or that genre in the rest of his/her career... and many songs are borderline between genres anyway

And no 'Change The World' is not R&B because it doesn't sound R&B

This 90's pop, not R&B.

"Take A Bow" did chart on the r&b charts. wink

Love the Quiet Storm remixes but the original song was decidedly pop.

I hated the hell out of 1990s R&B and see no change whatsoever in it and today's R&B except for autotune. It was slow, dull, and shit hop infested then and it still is today. The only music I liked in the 1990s was the house/dance music and the majority of it was underground in the gay clubs. When it turned into trance and lost it's funkiness, that's when I dropped it too.

Andy is a four letter word.

I was thinking about this the other day. Today's music in general (not just r&b) is full of one-hit-wonders and crappy, generic songs.
