They had a Tron panel at ComiCon yesterday and someone commented that they've been working on this music for three years. Well, umm, they should work on it some more. I'm a Daft Punk fan and a fan of the original movie. Been following the production and looking forward to this for quite a while. I've been very impressed with what I've seen from the new film. I'm not impressed with this music at all. Doesn't sound like Daft Punk at all. There's a hundred score composers who could have done the same thing. I was definitely expecting something different.

Considering they've been working in tandem with the production of the film (even the lightcycles are 'tuned' to the frequencies and music that Daft Punk have been coming up with) I think that's a little harsh considering there are only a handful of snippets available right now.

To each their own. I collect film scores, listened to all the pieces available at the link you provided in their entirety and found none of them the slightest bit interesting. In fact, they sound quite a bit like stuff that's been done before, short of a few electronic sounds that were added to the mix. I have complete faith that they'll work well IN the film. It's just not at all what I was expecting or hoping for when it was announced that Daft Punk was doing the music.

This is clearly about expectations, Cerebus. It sounds like you expected new Daft Punk "songs." They were hired to compose the score for the movie, which is completely different beast altogether. They're dealing with producers and directors giving them the "direction" they (the prods. and dir.) want the music to take. And I seriously don't think anyone can make much of a judgement from those short snippets. Until anyone hears the full score in its entirety (not to mention, in context to what images its driving), I don't think a fair critique can be made. I enjoyed what little I heard. Obviously the prods and dir want(ed) a combo electronic and string score, not an entirely electronic one (like Bangalter's Irreversible). But I would imagine there's a lot more factors at play.

I'm willing to wait until I see the film or can hear the entire score to make a final judgement. But I definitely wasn't looking for new Daft Punk songs. I was looking for a movie score that actually sounded like Daft Punk made it. Those samples could have been written and produced by almost anybody working in the medium.
