I agree I also think that Pharrell was the ideal producer for Michael.Moreso than any other producer,he was able to capture the OTW sound, bringing it into the future.Rodney Jerkins simply didn't deliver.

i just tried to find the interview with Pharrell explaining his lifelong wish to work with MJ and how he finally wrote alot of things with MJ in mind and MJ's people called Pharrell up and told him that MJ was not interested in working with him because he thought his material was not strong enough and how crushed he was. Of course, alot of what he had worked on went on to become monster hits for Usher, Justin Timberlake and the like. I recall Pharrell saying that he saw MJ a couple times and MJ hinted that he was wrong by not using the songs. I wish I could find that video...
MJ was an absolute idol for Pharrell and he saw working with the king of pop as a crowning achievement citing MJ as the reason why he ever did music to begin with. Pharrell also said that his fav MJ song was "Thats What You Get" (For Being Polite) by The Jacksons.

Ok I think pharrell is talented but Timberlake album was released in 2002, I really don't know why Mj didn't call him to work with him through all these years from 2002-2009 , I don't think that MJ was regretful that he didn't accept the songs, MJ could have called to ask for some material but he simply didn’t…There is something that MJ didn’t like about this guy’s work and it was the bassline I think. According to Pharrell, it was because MJ thought that there were no hooks or strong enough hooks. Now, I'm not too much of a fan of the ones they did but, they STOMP 95% of Invincible. MJ was stupid to think that....and also, what a terrible mindset to have! Looking for hooks from a producer....*sigh* that was his major musical flaw. A song don't always need catchy hooks. If that was the case, the album in my avatar would be considered a bad album....and that, it absolutely is not. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

It's weird how there are so many stories about why the songs didn't make the album "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Pharrell said the manager said the songs weren't good enough and Michael would always bring it up and they'd laugh about it whenever they saw each other. I've never heard of thing about him thinking there were no hooks "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Pharrell said it on a UK show on MTVBass with Trever Nelson (who was interviewing him). Pharrell seemed utterly disappointed but, had nothing but praise for MJ regardless. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

The Neptunes stan in me should've seen that
The part about hooks.....that definitely sounds like something he got from the Motown days with The Corporation and Hal Davis "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Stand!" in Live @ the Forum By Yoann, 21/05/2010 On reading the tracklist of "Live At The Forum", the question which can be asked is why the concert doesn't start, as usual, with "Stand", the Sly & The Family Stone's cover. The song was usually used as the opening for all the concerts of the tours. Even the historical group's appearance in "The Ed Sullivan Show" began with this hit. This absence of this track, noted by our friends from MJJVault.us, is due to technical problems at the beginning of the show (see article below), which made the recording unusable for the "Live At The Forum" CD.

Well Mike said as much.
He said the 60s were home to the greatest melodies or hooks of all time. Its what he loves....and it shows, Mike is home himself to some of the catchiest hooks in pop....but, as we know, that was my problem with him, i wanted him to branch out of pop songs...and i think he wanted to to some degree but probably feared a fan backlash. True and there was more to that interview that I posted above but the video cut the rest off. Pharrell continued to go on about remembering MJ.

From what's been said, he wanted to work on a classical inspired album before he died. He also did some compositions back in '78 and '79 that were instrumentals around the same time he came up with Be Not Always and Little Susie "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Yeah, i heard. The guy who he was working with said that the compositions Mike shown him in preparation were very childlike, which tells me he was again highly melody driven. However, in classical music, i prefer melody driven pieces so i would of welcomed such a project wholeheartedly. Songs like Little Susie were signs of difference and im all for it but, again, it's all melody driven...as good as the melodies were. I just wanted him getting more experimental put simply.....ah well. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

MJ didn't think the Neptunes tracks were good/strong enough, but he thought that the overproduced Rodney Jerkins bullshit that resulted in Invincible was good enough? ...
I wonder if he regretted that in the end?

There was a great interview that Pharrel did with MJ a few years back in Interview magazine that is worth hunting out - a nice exchange between the two of them.
You can read it - along with other MJ interviews with this mag - here:

Hell yeah they were. I remember in an interview, Pharrell said that "Like I Love You sounds like something Prince would come up with in a jam session" n*gga please.

I remember Justin premiered it on the VMAs and people were commenting how MJ inspired it was and he said "No no...it was inspired by Sinatra too"

Wesley Snipes: Michael Jackson was an 'angel'
Wesley Snipes believes Michael Jackson was an "angel."
The 'Demolition Man' actor is still in awe of the singer - who died of acute Propofol intoxication last June - and is amazed at the impact he had on the world.
He told Britain's GQ magazine: "It's a great loss for us and I just hope and pray that the creator, whatever you believe in, still holds us in favor to send us another angel like that. Because if not, we may have lost more than just a man.
"It must be something very special to send a man like that down. He influenced so many different people, so many different industries, politics, science, music, art . and then to be taken away? Maybe we didn't take good care of him."
The 47-year-old star - who worked with Michael on the singer's 'Bad' video - admitted he encourages his own five children to listen to the legendary King of Pop every day.
He revealed to FHM magazine: "I started as a dancer and a singer and the two most influential people in my life were Michael Jackson and James Brown. Every day we listened to Michael Jackson and James Brown in my house.
"So now, with my kids, every day we hear a little bit of James Brown, a little bit of Michael Jackson."

His reaction to those comments was what got me. Dude was actually surprised that people picked up on that lol. A lot of people will disagree with me on this, but for me, the worst mistake Justin made was his attempts at downplaying how much MJ really influenced him during that whole "Justified" era. Pharrell, Chad, and Timbaland knew what was up. Everyone knows an MJ move when they see it, especially an MTV AUDIENCE! lol

That's good thanks, since you owe your acting career to Mike anyway!

I wonder what the final songs that Michael recorded sound like? I know Lenny Kravitz is coming out with a duet with Michael soon, but there was a full album just sitting there with Michael's lyrics, music, and voice on it, and now it's not definite when it will come out.
I'd love for a final 7th studio album to come out, to put a footnote on Michael's legacy. I don't want Invincible to be the last studio album.

WARHOL: I like Tron. It’s like playing the video games. Have you seen it? JACKSON: Yes. It didn’t move me. WARHOL: Well, thanks a lot. See you soon.
THAT is by far the funniest part of the interview! Seems like Andy was hoping MJ was a fan of Tron then BAM! he hit em with the "it didn't move me" line. I bet MJ said it in a very nonchalant voice .. lol
