female singers being "sexy"

I am tired of all these young female singers posing half naked in magazines (see Rihanna's GQ shots) or posing with a Come Hither look on their album covers, or wiggling their asses in their music videos.

It's boring, and IMO nothing is more indicative that a performer doesn't really have much of an act at all if they've got to resort to Playboy style to get their image out.

I'm tired of being sold singers who are all tits 'n' ass, and no voice.

Lets not forget the Forced SEX image with Male singers too, i mean Robin Thicke anyone, why can we accept this as sexy when he uses the female to push his image, and theres more than just him, but having a record called Sex Therapy stands out..

Unfortunatley, that's the state of affairs in the music business 2day in all generes....90% image, 1% talent, passion & love.....Only way 2 see the real is 2 look 4 it on the independent labels, online, or check out the bands that are playin at a club near u.....

I do, but the mainstream acts can't be avoided no matter how hard I try, it seems.

Sometimes it is the kind of music that they want to write and it seems to match.

Generally, you want your artists to match what they are singing about, image-wise.

That's the only possible explanation for all of it. But you are absolutely right. While historically, we want our artists to look as great as they possibly can, it used to be achieved with a bit of class.

Often it is the final gimmick to make the public take notice.

Posing naked in a magazine matches whose lyrics, exactly?

I also have issues with Lady GaGa. She's not doing TnA the same way other young female performers are, but she is showcasing a weird sort of titillation and ripped-off quasi-Glam image to hide the fact that she's just so-so in the talent department.

I want the fat girl that can sing. I want the girl in a buttoned up shirt that can sing. I want the girl with geeky glasses and flat shoes that can sing.

When I think of all the amazing talent that is probably out there that just doesn't have the right "look", or isn't willing to get naked....disbelief

Artists in all genres do that. Do we expect to see, say, Leonard Cohen, half naked on his album cover because of it?

Now that you make the comparison, there are plenty of female Canadian artists that don't play this game. hmmm

So, you're saying she doesn't really deserve the attention, being that she was so-so but merely because she was willing to exhibit herself in certain ways.

For the purpose of this thread you don't have to like or dislike Lady Gaga's music. I was just referencing her as the most obvious example of some sort of image makeover.

This can be found at your local pub, just not in the pages of GQ. Really what we're barking about here is why a fashion magazine is undressing skinny women. That's what they do.

I think the key gripe is "willing to get naked" while men are not expected to (yet).
