Double standards apply to both sexes in some ways.

Everyone should be allowed to be sexual, it’s part of their being.

But a good majority of this seems to exist primarily to open ears, minds and cash registers via the g-spot.

And if we weren't living in such a superficial society, none of these tricks would work, even in the short term.

Sex will always sell, its that simple. What we talk about now is how they talked about Elvis Jim Morrison Diana Ross Donna Summer etc..back in the day as being nothing more than selling "sex"

Often it is the final gimmick to make the public take notice.

Watch the same Lady Gaga get ignored 5 years ago:

I also have issues with Lady GaGa. She's not doing TnA the same way other young female performers are, but she is showcasing a weird sort of titillation and ripped-off quasi-Glam image to hide the fact that she's just so-so in the talent department.

Sorry but who are you to judge talent? Like her or not, she has a talent for writing catchy tunes. She's wrote for a lot of other singers as well. Until you're giving your acceptance speech for your Grammy, you have no right to dictate who has talent & who doesn't. Although I am sick of these half-dressed sluts parading around & miming live when there are much greater musicians living in the gutter, at least Lady Gaga is doing something different....

Anyway, it's a bit of a double negative bitching about people in the music business selling SEX on a PRINCE fansite, the man is the biggest sexually provocative musician in the world! He's a made millions singing about sex, it's just how it is...

Artists in all genres do that. Do we expect to see, say, Leonard Cohen, half naked on his album cover because of it?

Now that you make the comparison, there are plenty of female Canadian artists that don't play this game. hmmm

Damn, just about every Canadian female artist I can think of doesn't pander to this. lol

oh, meow85, you don't get away without replying to this in some form. no no no!

I am tired of all these young female singers posing half naked in magazines (see Rihanna's GQ shots) or posing with a Come Hither look on their album covers, or wiggling their asses in their music videos.

It's boring, and IMO nothing is more indicative that a performer doesn't really have much of an act at all if they've got to resort to Playboy style to get their image out.

I'm tired of being sold singers who are all tits 'n' ass, and no voice.

Sexuality is apparently a substitute for talent.

I think meow85's point (and YOU CAN RETURN TO YOUR THREAD ANY TIME HERE! mad) is that the pressure for male musicians to get naked simply does not exist with the same expectation level as females.

I think you said it best... even females would rather see female nudity.

lol Umm...No, I wouldn't. LOL. disbelief
Me neither. I can't really think of a female singer who I think is naturally sexy.

Either you're sexy are you're not and it doesn't have a damn thing to do with removing a stitch of clothing. I'm bored by it all really and for the most part, these folks taking it off.... don't a have a bit of talent. I guess they have to do something to kinda distract use from that fact.

It's up to us the record buying public to decide if someone has talent or not. And Prince singing about sex is not double negative bitching because the man is a talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Me either. Male singers I'm different about, but I seen too many female singers nude. I don't mind Gaga doing it lol because she's unusual but other females do it and you're like "why?" lol

But it amazes me the whole double standard because we all made a show like AI the biggest thing ever and it was all about image. Im not saying that many on that show cant sing, but, alot were told, you'll make it because you have the look? so what image are we sending? Why does Kris Allen get through and someone that doesnt have the boy next door look who can write songs not get through? this has always gone on. I think that now we are all amazed at the level it exits, but lets be honest, if Britney Spears was ugly would she make it? No she wouldnt, because she had the catchy songs, but they needed something to catch your eye too, but dont think this is where it started, i mean Look at anyone from Madonna to Janet, and then look back in the late 80's how C&C used fashion models to lypsynch because they thought Martha Wash wouldnt be the image to put out there. And then in the mid 1980's the guys in HEART wanted to kick "ann wilson" out, because she gained weight??? I mean it was her fucking band? So they put her in Black Clothes and only shot her face, so this whole deal didnt start with the Rihanna's and Cassie's and Justins and Xtina's. Blame the source

If women are willing to sell their souls for success, then they deserve whatever label people want to attach to them.

I don't mean the powers that be either, I mean the regular ole guy with a pulsing hot dick that only wants to listen (or watch) a female singer if she is "hot".

Doesn't anyone remember the music video I did with David Bowie where he and I were nude in a rocket ship? The song was "Major Dong". Big hit. Very edgy but way ahead of its time.

I can think of Canadian female artists that do, but they never really made it big. Maybe there's less of a focus on blatant sex in our branch of the industry?

Yeah but its such a double standard. Lets take the world of sports. OK, Mark Sanchez of The New York Jets, Jose Reyes of the NY Mets, ALex Rodriguez of NY Yankees, Derek Jeter of NY Yankees to name a few, all have done spreads in GQ, shirts off, etc, labeled Sexiest in Sports and no one says a damn thing. Anna Kournikova did a Bikini Calendar and they said she "disgraced" womens tennis? I mean really now, do we not see double standards.

I don't know anything about sports so I can't speak on that topic. shrug

Not even close. disbelief

Even taking into consideration the relative difference in the media's focus on sex over the decades, objectifying a fully dressed man is NOTHING like objectifying a scantily clad woman in a submissive pose.
