LA Times: Lawyer says No Demerol Injection or OxyContin Given to Jackson

Last Updated on Sunday, 28 June 2009 15:25 Sunday, 28 June 2009 15:20

A lawyer for Michael Jackson’s personal physician said today that reports that the doctor injected the pop star with a powerful painkiller before his death were “absolutely false.”

“There was no Demerol. No OxyContin,” Edward Chernoff, the attorney for Dr. Conrad Murray, told The Times.

The lawyer, who was present Saturday for Murray’s three-hour interview with Los Angeles police detectives, said Jackson was already unconscious when the doctor “fortuitously” entered the bedroom of the performer’s Holmby Hills mansion.

The 50-year-old entertainer “wasn’t breathing. He checked for a pulse. There was a weak pulse in his femoral artery. He started administering CPR,” said Chernoff, a Houston criminal defense attorney.

The lawyer’s claim was consistent with the account of a source close to the investigation who told The Times that the lengthy interview with the doctor turned up “no smoking gun.”

Murray had not “furnished or prescribed” Jackson with Demerol, the lawyer said.

He described Murray as stunned by Jackson’s death. “He was the one who suggested the autopsy to the family while they were still in the hospital. He didn’t understand why Michael Jackson had died,” he said. Murray, a cardiologist with practices in Nevada and Texas, shuttered his offices in May after Jackson asked him to travel to London for a seven-month concert run.

Chernoff said the concert promoter, L.A.-based AEG Live, had agreed to pay the doctor $300,000 and was still owed the money. AEG Live Chief Executive Randy Phillips has described Murray as Jackson’s personal physician of three years. Murray’s attorney, however, said that although the men had known each other since2006, Murray only came on as Jackson’s personal physician last month for the London shows.

He said previously Murray had treated Jackson’s children for an infection while the family was living in Las Vegas and the doctor considered the performer “a friend.”

On Friday, an LAPD detective told The Times that investigators had no information that Jackson was injected with Demerol or other painkillers. Such claims "are coming from outside the investigation," said Lt. Gregg Strenk, head of the LAPD's Homicide Special Section 1, which is assigned to the Jackson case.

Then it comes down to my original thought on why he died: he wasn't treating his body well at all. It's speculation but I would not be surprised if his cause was anorexia nervosa.

According to TMZ: Jackson had a pulse.

You're supposed to Mouth to Mouth in that case.

http://www.tmz.com/2009/0...ith-pulse/

Dr. Conrad Murray's lawyer is now saying that when Murray found Michael Jackson, he had a faint pulse.

Murray's lawyer, Edward Chernoff, says Murray went into Jackson's bedroom and saw that he wasn't breathing. Chernoff told the AP, "He just happened to find him in his bed, and he wasn't breathing. Mr. Jackson was still warm and had a pulse."

Chernoff says Murray immediately began administering CPR.

Chernoff says Murray did not prescribe or give Jackson Demerol or OxyContin. Chernoff says any drugs Murray did prescribe were given in response to a specific complaint from Jackson.

I wonder if he probably had a blood clot or something, something can trigger a death under odd circumstances. I know I suggested anorexia but it could've also been a blood clot.

nod

Are people going to watch and criticize their every move and determine what they should be doing under the circumstances according to them? That's going to get very tiresome. Life goes on, even for the Jackson family.

But you don't do CPR on a bed, which the 911 caller said jackson was on. Any doctor would know that. The story is going to just get more exaggerated each day.

According to the 911 call, the doctor was performing CPR on jackson while on the bed, the first thing the operator says is get the person on the floor. Anyone who has even had minimal CPR training knows this.

I watched the DateLine special about MJ earlier tonight. neutral They discussed how the doctor had one arm behind Michael's back on the bed as hard support during his attempt at resuscitation, since Michael's body was "so fragile" he supposedly didn't want to cause further damage. They also said that Michael had begun taking anti-anxiety and sleep-inducing pills because of the stress of those doggone concerts, but did not receive Demerol or Oxycontin before he stopped breathing. I don't know what to believe.

A very sad piece of information that was told during this show was that Michael requested that the doctor sit next to him when he was sleeping. They didn't indicate how long the doctor would watch him, but just the thought of that tears me up.

How the hell do you perform one handed CPR? Also if that is possible you'd do more damage by only using your hand as support cause you're putting more pressure on one area while if you have someone totally on a hard service the pressure is evenly distributed. Basically that's how one can lay on a bed of nails.

Glad I'm not that the only one that thinks this. I just read he went to the BET Awards...

I know people some fans think we shouldn't even talk about him and just remember Mike, but since Joe wants to be the fucking center of attention, let it be known. My brother died last year (also very unexpectedly...also heart failure) in a small way to honor him. Frankly, it took a lot just to get us out of the house to buy funeral clothes (only my older sister who came from out of town was prepared). Joe Jackson frankly always wanted to be the star. What a fucking nice way for it to happen!

If there's a hell....

BTW, I just realized people are talking about Katherine shopping. Doubt she needed clothes for the occasion but I definately wouldn't gain up on her. She's a bit "off" but I don't think she is heartless.
