Boy George and George Michael were on "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and I guess they didn't wanna be on a song that was rivaling their song. As for Madonna, I think she was working on the music video for "Material Girl" when they did the song.

Oh and neither of them were on the American Music Awards (save from Prince).

well said, Timmy.

Thing is, Boy and George were on the Live Band project. WATW is only the US plagiate of Live Band (although I prefer WATW)

If anyone is having trouble posting on this thread because it is too long, you should....

go to "My org"
click on "forums" on the left hand side
and under "Change Forum Preferences" uncheck the box that is next to "Full recap on reply"

it should speed things up a bit if the
page is loading really slow
If you will, so will I

http://www.washingtonpost...00666.html

From the WashingtonPost: A top White House adviser says President Barack Obama has written a private letter to Michael Jackson's family.

David Axelrod says Obama expressed condolences to the Jacksons. Michael Jackson died Thursday in Los Angeles.

The White House has said Obama saw the pop star as a spectacular performer whose life had sad and tragic aspects. Obama did not issue a statement following Jackson's death.

White House aides say there are no plans to release the letter to the public.

Axelrod appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Are there any orgers from Detroit that are going to the candlelight vigil tonight at the Motown Museum?
My 16 year old daughter asked if we could go there for the vigil, so of course I said yes. She and my 14 year old son took the news of his death really hard.

I live in the Detroit area. I would love to go down to the Motown Museum tonight but Id rather watch the BET Awards LIVE. There will be masses of people there and parking might be difficult. Im sure some of it will be on the late news tonight, they may even break into programming.

For all of you that dont know, Michael Jackson holds a very very special place in the hearts of Detroiters. We consider him and his family our own. Its always been that way.

WHAT? I only spent around 400/month - including the rent.

No need to spent more than 100 Euros or Canadian $$$ on food, clothes etc.

the rest gets saved, I've got almost as much money in thousand than my age.

See this is what pisses me off. To me I see James and Ray as the key figures of the revolution of global pop music. This revisionism they're doing with MJ in almost overlooking them is silly. Hell even the BET Awards probably didn't give them the send-off they're trying to give MJ (though they did try with James but it just seemed "there").

And I don't wanna hear "but Michael transcend..." I think MJ himself will be pissed of all the extra attention he's giving now when James and Ray never got that official send-off. You saw how in 2004 Reagan was more talked about on the news than Ray and James got a few media tributes. So the hypocritical nature of the MJ tributes has me on the edge.

it's the same thing that happened in 1997 when Princess Diana died and then Mother Theresa a week later. Diana still got and gets most of the press. Some might argue that Mother Theresa deserved to get more attention because of her virtuous acts. On the other hand, some might argue that it's understandable that Diana got more attention because she was someone who was part of the popular culture on a daily basis for 20 years and the average man (and woman) on the street had a more personal connection to them, no matter how tenuous.

As for Reagan's death getting more coverage than Ray, well all I can say is thank God, because if it had been the other way around, I'd seriously fear for the priorities of the media and the public. Ray Charles was a singer. Ronald Reagan, whatever you might think of him, was the leader of the free world for 8 years and his death is a bigger deal than any of them and had more lasting impact on the world in probably any 1 month of his presidency than any singer's entire career ever will. I fully suspect that if Jimmy Carter or George H.W. Bush were to die this week, Michael Jackson's death would be pushed to the entertainment pages of all the newspapers, as it should be.

As for the coverage of Michael vs. Ray and James, I remember those two getting quite a few tributes and a lot of media coverage. But it goes back to the Diana vs. Theresa thing. Michael Jackson had an impact, and a more personal one, on more people alive in the world TODAY than Ray Charles and James Brown combined. While their contributions to the world of music may be more profound than Michaels, Michael reached a greater audience around the world, and one that is right now interested in paying him tribute and remembering him. I'm not sure what purpose is served by thinking "it's not fair that Michael is getting all this attention and praise when others didn't." He was the most famous man in the world for the last 25+ years. There is going to be a lot of interest.
