Reports said fans had seen Joe outside Mike's home and he was laughing and carrying on. They thought it was uncharacteristic for Joe to laugh while his son's estate is in tatters. Some even blame Joe for how Mike turned out.

I think maybe he is acting like that to maybe avoid crying..or breaking down...if you understand what I mean.

People handle grief differently and it's difficult when you have to deal with all legalities and media that their family has to cope with. He (Joe) may be in the zone he needs to be in to keep handling business and keep everybody else together.

Yeah, that 'lil dig stood out to me too. Guess that whole Beatles catalog drama still stings. However, Bob Geldof's comment aggravated me..

I remember when I presented him with an award at the Brits in London and I was reading the script and I just couldn't get through all the encomiums so I stopped. And then he performed "Earth Song" and Jarvis Cocker got up and did his thing. Michael didn't understand why people had been laughing. He rang me at 3 in the morning to ask about it. I just told him "go to bed, don't worry." Earth Song was a little hubristic, but it was still a cool song. He was a pop singer; he hadn't invented penicillin. But what do you expect when you have a kid who never went to school and then he's thrust into this mad existence. My favorite track is "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", but the most important is "We Are the World." I was never that crazy about the song, but at the time most Americans didn't know where Africa was. I don't think Michael understood the issues, the politics and economics; it didn't interest him, but when he was asked to help, he did.

So, "Saint" Bob thinks he saved the black folk in Africa, but Michael was a pop singer who "hadn't invented penicillin"? Dick. Don't get me wrong - I don't think MJ was someone who could walk on water, but he was just as much of a philanthropist as Geldof - maybe even moreso.

i hope bob didn't say that. i posted yesterday about earl ofari hutchinson's blog at the huffington post which talked about the 40 charities that mj supported through the heal the world foundation as recently as 2008. i think he and everyone else understood the score in ethiopia. just because the press chooses to focus on him and bono doesn't mean they're the only ones who have made a contribution to helping others.

i'm often perplexed by the different impressions mj left on people. there seems to be such a divergence of opinions about him.

I think most of his family had a part in some of the issues Michael had. His father was constantly putting him down about his looks, which lead to the surgeries, his Mother did'nt say do anything to stop the abuse from carrying on,and his brothers use to have sex with girls with him in the room when he was 10. confused

Michael clearly retained a child-like mentality, but he also never seemed to want to grow older physically either, and was desperately trying to preserve a youthful face, body, and movement, all the while unknowingly harming himself. Because of the pressure from all those people, I don't think he could really imagine himself being older, like at 70 or 80 years old, 'cause I've heard him say he did not want to go out like James Brown, i.e. not really being able to perform physically anymore but still doing it anyway for the public. I don't know. Prescriptions or not, his daily stress was damaging him. neutral I will never believe he committed suicide though.

Man.....If he had declared that he would never dance again, I would have been perfectly fine with that. I didn't want him to do anymore "Moonwalker Michael Jackson" shows anyway. In these recent years, I've just wanted him to be happy, comfortable, healthy, sing when he wanted to, and I only still strongly desired to hear him just talk every once-in-awhile. I'm really missing his speaking voice and incredible intelligence.

I just have to say, this is so bad. Watching all these shows man....MJ is so special, and it's even harder for me 'cause I knew that WAY BEFORE this happened. cry Forget the entertainment, I'm talking about the person, since there are PLENTY of excellent performers and "leaders" who are/were horrid and cruel people. I can't stand it when incredible spirits like MJ are not appreciated when they are alive. Many people hate them, and many others "love" them for the WRONG reasons (greed, selfishness, thievery, lust, etc), which causes the person to be emotionally troubled, withdraw from EVERYONE, and end tragically like Michael. So not fair.....

i was telling my mother that this oddly reminds me of 1984 at the height of mj's popularity, there was sense of palpable greed then, and it's here now. i was always rooting from afar for him to break free, but he was unable to. so not fair.

yeah, as an american, i know we can be an ethnocentric bunch. however i remember the video images from afirca in early '85, just like a lot of members on this board. we certainly do know where it is; a lot of us like mj came from there. michael took the message of the earth song seriously (and judging by the fact that it was a much bigger hit in europe, i would say so did a lot people), so i'm sure he didn't find cocker's behavior funny at all. i think geldof is saying a lot of self serving things to hype himself at mj's expense.

To some, Michael was just an entertainer. To others, he was a musical genius

I'm in the latter category. I want people to understand something.

Not everyone writes, produces, composes their material. Not everyone is a triple threat.

But he DID reach alot of people through his music, through his dancing, through his charitable efforts. You may not get what the fuss is about, you may not get why people all over the world are mourning his passing

Music isn't always about "Did they do it all?" It should be about feeling, bringing people together. And that's what Michael's music did....

...and that's what it's going to continue to do
"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Maybe I'm silly but I don't understand anyone in the family making a public appearance so soon after his death. I'm troubled by Joe saying Mike would be even larger in death than he was in life confused It just seems like he can't wait to milk the legacy. & seeing him @ the BET awards mentioning a record company?? Uh uhh, this shit ain't right. Can't tell people how to grieve but he's seeming like a blood-sucker to me right about now disbelief
