Nope.... Again you invent shit lol , Michael Jackson has always been more popular than Prince...
And when he was black he was even more popular... And it has nothing to do with generation...

vainandy said:

Also, artists back then made an album every single year. Prince made one over year, so did Rick James, so did The Barkays, so did everyone. Everyone that is, except Michael Jackson who made one every five years. Radio stations back then didn't drag out albums for two and three years like they do now. By the time an artist came out with a new album the very next year, their current album had already been out of style for months. Even if someone wanted to prefer Michael over Prince back then, they would have had a hard time because Michael was completely forgotten by the time his new album came out....except for the pop world and video channels which drug the shit out for years.

Wait a minute, you are confusing everything...
what's the point with the fact that Prince made one album every year and this thread...
Second thing MJ only started to wait years to release a new album only after Thriller...
And when you said " Radio stations back then didn't drag out albums", actually MJ has always been successful to drag out albums because each of his album constantly produced 4 or 5 top 10 hits... Off The wall was the first album ever to produce 4 top 10 hits... Off the wall was made between Destiny and Triumph...

Eevrything you said is total bullshit... lol

"Off The Wall" was very successful but almost a year later, it was completely out of style on R&B radio. The Jacksons would have never released "Truimph" if it had been drug out for years. During this time, Michael would release an album with his brothers the next year but Michael as a solo artist was considered old news once his solo album got old after a year (which was normal for the time). Prince and everyone else was still fresh because they kept the new albums coming every year. But like I said before, Michael, the solo artist, was old news for years at a time on R&B radio because it took him that long to release a new album. The years he released something with his brothers, everyone was praising the group, not him alone. Pop radio is the one that made him out to be more than what he really was and kissed his ass.

As for me "inventing things" and talking "total bullshit", these were my junior high and high school years and I lived through this era I listened to R&B radio 99% of the time. Were you even born yet back then or were you were in diapers? I didn't read my facts from some music critic after the fact, I lived through them and was old enough to remember what the music critics (which are usually pop, not R&B critics) don't tell you because they don't know.

The Girl Is Mine is more immature than any on Thriller.

you use the term "was." can you describe the period of time when it was "atrociously childish" and when his era of "atrociously childish" music ended? i'd grant that his music wasn't as thematically textured as the artist displayed in your avatar, but please explain.

Those are extremely adult subjects in those songs. Meanwhile, Michael was singing about ghosts and goblins and things.

I think some people on this board have a whole different definition of maturity.
P is dealing with race, personal freedom, sex, and nuclear destruction on 1999.

Exactly. In fact, P was bringing up racial/spiritual/political/sexual issues early on in just one damn song/album - CONTROVERSY. MJ went "Disney" with his "Black or White" cut, as to not shake up any of his fan base. P put a lotta racial issues on blast and didn't give a fuck.

Plus you can probably tell from both guys' language that the girl wasn't into 'em. She wanted someone like Prince or Rick, Michael and Paul were pretty boys.

evillol Their conversation was not even believable:

Paul: "Michael we're not gonna fight about this, ok?"
Michael: "Hehe, Paul I think I told you I'm a lover, not a fighter."

It sound like they were having tea. lol It was a cute love song. But I'm glad "Billie Jean" kicked it to the curb. nod That at least is a mature song since it talks about infidelity and extra-marital pregnancy, lol, though in MJ's world, it was a girl accusing him of fathering ONE of her twins, lol.

yes this particular orger always seem to make it a race issue. On my most ovverated artists thread he/she accused me of picking only black artists because they were black. i stifled this argument quickly, but i think he/she killed the thread. My most logical guess is that he/she is a white 11 year old who just watched Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and is convinced everything is a race issue. confused
