Really? That's my favorite on the album. It's always a fine line between being too cheesy/overly ironic and actually interestingly cheesy--and for me this gets the balance right. The little repeating, stuttering keyboard line in the chorus, the "get stupid" break--it's a great little mashup of what was terrible and great about 80s music. | |

They played Heartbeat at the club last night. Some people didn't know what it was (silly queens have no access to the internet?). It was nice dancing to it.
I listened to the rest of the album again, and unfortunately it isn't doing it for me. It's lifeless. | |

lol, I just heard one of these new tracks. All I can say is ..... C-R-I-N-G-E! WTF??!! How can you guys be defending this 24 carrot junk? Even by Madonna's standards this is....BAD. Do any of you realize how CORNY this woman is? And no, there is NOTHING ironic about it. She has long lacked a cliche detector or any sense of when she is being just plain naff. Damn. I'd go back to get the song title of what I heard, but I don't want to go anywhere near that drivel again. Yuck!
There were a lot of threads a few months ago about which "diva" would bring it and I have to say that, regardless of sales, Janet gave your girl a good ass kicking this year. Just based on what I've heard, there's no contest. I didn't cringe at any of those Janet tracks, and "Feedback" was kind of edgy. The same cannot be said for that Madonna song. How long are you guys gonna go on swallowing this woman's piss and pretending it's champagne? It's one of a dozen cuts on her Hard Candy disc, out Tuesday with assists from Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Pharrell Williams. She also has directed the comedy Filth and Wisdom and produced and written a documentary, I Am Because We Are, about AIDS orphans in Malawi. That's where she found David Banda, the 2-year-old she and filmmaker husband Guy Ritchie are adopting. Madonna chats from her London home: Q: Why these collaborators? A: I love their records, and they bring out the best in other people. I thought we could play to each other's strengths. I decided to work with singers, songwriters and producers who are artists in their own right and see what that would manifest. Q: Did you instantly click? A: No, I don't think you do with anyone. I'd met them before in social circumstances. It's quite different when you sit down and say, "Let's write a song." You're putting yourself in a vulnerable position. Will they think my ideas are stupid? Can I speak freely without hurting anyone's feelings? That's awkward. They're personable, and nobody was unprofessional. Q: What inspired Hard Candy's urgent, mobilizing fervor? A: We don't have the luxury of thinking someone else is going to take care of our problems. Obviously, I've been focused on the world around me and taking responsibility for the past few years. (Candy) also is about life's surprises and trust and disappointment, about finding out that people I thought were my friends weren't. It's staying flexible, not being married to any fixed idea and not taking anything too literally. Q: She's Not Me could be a response to Madonna wannabes. A: I wasn't thinking about that. I'm very happy if what I do and what I've accomplished has inspired other women or given them a sense of ownership of their destiny. I don't think anyone is trying to be me. To me, (She's Not Me) is the ultimate jilted lover song. The follow-up to I Will Survive, maybe a little angrier. Q: Work often separates you and Guy, which you address with some sadness in Miles Away. A: That's the drawback of two artists living together. We have to make sacrifices, and there's always a trade-off. It's about long-distance relationships in general. After I wrote it, the guys in the studio were like, "I can totally relate." Q: Is the media spotlight less welcome now that the cameras are on your family? A: Attention on the adoption bothered me because it will filter down to my other children (Lourdes, 11, and Rocco, 7), and it's hard for them to understand why anyone would get mad at me for saving someone's life. We have a basic understanding in this house that most things written in newspapers and magazines aren't true. Q: What's your reaction to the microscope Britney Spears has been under the past year? i hoped for more HC songs. I'd love to see her do Music on the Tour, but on a promo tour i want songs from teh new album. like she did for Confessions, she performed Hung Up, Get Together, I Love New York, Let It Will Be and Everybody. I wish she would perform 4 Minutes, Heartbeat, Give It 2 Me, Miles Away and Lucky Star... | |

OK. SO I've finally listened to "Hard Candy."
I'm sorry to say this but it sucks big time. This might be one of her worst albums, on the same level as "American Life." Candy Shop - Can't stand this song. Boring. Repetitive. Cleopatra remix is much much better. 4 minutes - another poor production. I guess Timbaland didnt have guts to steal any more songs from myspace. Give it 2 Me - seriously, circus music. Heartbeat - This one is okaaaay, at best. But the vocals are horrible! I mean she's no Aretha, but even compared to Confessions her voice sounds so strained, flat, nasal. Miles Away - The only song that I'm keeping on my ipod. But I hoped for much better, after listening to that preview clip we had. The acoustic guitar, human beatbox ruin it for me a bit. The chorus is the only part that i really enjoy. Too bad the break at 3:02 sucks ass. She's Not Me - desperately seeking susan? please. I don't appreciate the faux funk rhythm. They tried to go for the sound of INXS "Need You Tonight" bu failed miserably. Increadible - Kylie's song. Beat Goes On - 2004 all over again. Dance 2night - the chorus is okay, but overall this is just laughable. I mean that sound was popular three years ago. Spanish Lesson - lyrics And the hell told her that acoustic guitar sound is in this season??? Devil - another Justin Timberlake leftover. Voices - i don't have an opion on this one yet. I think, the album is better than Confessions. with COADF i always had the problem, that there are 4 of her best pop songs EVER!!! but the other 8 sonsg are average! on here I think none of teh best ones can keep with the best songs on Confessions, but there are only 2 really bad songs (Spanish Lesson and Candy Shop - I still hate it!) Besides the obvious singles (4 Minutes, Miles Away, Beat Goes On, Give It 2 Me and imo Heartbeat) there are two songs that surprised my positively! Voices is a great last track, it won't make much impact but I liek it. Incredible... the snippet didn't blow me, and I still think the first part is a bit boring. But that second part... WOW, it's amazing. I think it sounds early 90s music...i like it. two othe rthings I hate: the booklet the colours are horrible! ugly! and why are there no lyrics anymore... i love to listen to an album for teh first tiem while reading the lyrics on my bed... | |
