He sampled Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart" for "D.S." and the "Twilight Zone" narration for "Threatened".

See I like how Mike does his sample on DS..its almost like I cant notice them at all because there is still so much original music in it already.

Threatened I dont count. He chopped those samples up so that he made a narration. That was one of the most creative uses of voice sampling I ever heard nod

It wasnt a real musical sample.

You're right on those regards, lol.

I'm actually okay with this. After listening to Graduation, I expect good results from this collaboration.

all the people working with mj because he is a has-been and needs all the help he can get

i respect prince more now than ever.....at least he did PE on his own and it sucked but at least he owns his own turds

mj is a joke

If Michael was such a has-been, no one would want to work with him.
so with that in mind,

If he can give him a soulful version of "Big Brother" or "Can't Tell Me Nothin'" (under a different title and new sound and new song sans samples), I'm okay with it too.

There's some fans who don't want MJ to work with Kanye because of his attitude. Since when does his snotty attitude has to do with anything? falloff

I'd like to say Fuck Michael Jackson and Kanye West...

but the real reason i posted on this thread to reply to the reference oof D.S. sampling Owner of a lonely heart,
its not a sample, Its just slash (or mj for that matter ) playing a similar riff...
Its certainly not registered as a sample, because i checked the sample copyright database...
And if it is a sample than MJ owes Yes some fees, cause he didnt register it ...

I saw it on the liner notes on "HIStory" but I wasn't too sure if it was a sample or an interpolation replayed or something like that.

i'll check the copyright history of Owner of a Lonely heart cause if it is a recreation of the song,
than MJ doesn't have to give up fees etc...
or maybe the sample is just way too short to make a valid sample of the song...
cause it has really no harmonic fingerprint

And what's your fucking point?? On the liner notes of HIStory it says:

"DS" contains an excerpt from "Owner of a lonely heart"
Performed by Yes
Composed by Trevor Rabin, Jon Anderson, Chris Squire and Trevor Horn
Published by Affirmative Music, admin. by Warner-Tamerlane
Publishing Inc. (BMI) and Unforgettable Songs (PRS)
Courtesy of Atlantic Records

Wow, I guess I most be pretty bored to actually respond!

Liner notes mean nothing unless its registered
if there are no records of the sample being used
than it was used illegally, no matter if it was mentioned in the liner notes

Well, back to the topic on hand... (hilarious that I am the one sticking to the subject matter)

I think West produced Janet Jackson's "I Want You." I like that song. I hope his collaboration with Michael turns out alright. Too huge egos in one studio. Should be interesting...

lol

You know, one good thing about this collaboration is: I do not think West is known for "sappy" songs. His tracks should sound nothing like "The Lost Children" or "Cry."
