The interview was neat, but God, how sadly inept is Musicology? What a boring, lifeless song that is. Sounds like a James Brown cover band cop.
Another one note horn song? Prince, where the hell has your originality went? Why even write songs if you cannot write great stuff? No hook or great chorus. The lines seemed clipped and forced. The song is not in Prince's league. He should be doing better. No innovative sounds. No invention. No weird, brilliance. Sad day. The songs just get worse. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Stormbringer Actually, I thought he was great. It's a funk tune based on the usual root note a la James Brown. I thought it was funky. But yes it was Simple. The best hook? Rhonda's bass in the chorus. Simple but it hooked me. It's a fun song meant to be fun in my opinion. I agree though that he needs to go back to doing some better chord structuring in his songs. NEWS could have been good if all of the musical ideas and hooks were used in more like 7 minutes instead of 14!!! I felt Rainbow Children explored good chord structure with great musicicanship. I don't see how one could complain about the elements of that album. One may not like the message, but it was a great concept album. If Prince continues with this sound, I hope he can expand on the talent of RC. I felt he definitely hit a plateau....even a downfall after hearing NEWS. We haven't heard the new album yet, so let's not jump to conclusions yet. Peace! T-O-DoubleD

This song is no good, but God, to say that a musical piece is bad because it lasts 14 minutes...

JediMaster said: It was a very good performance, but I think many fans are too close to the subject matter to really be objective, one way or the other.
On the one hand, many fans are blinded by everything he does, and just lavish praise on him, regardless of how good it was. On the other, you have folks who have such high expectations that nothing he does is good enough anymore. Of course, the "truth", if one can be found when dealing with opinions, is somewhere in the middle. Prince is still a consumate showman, and blows away 90% of his peers when it comes to live performance. Many fans really can't get past the fact that they've seen so many incredible performances from him that the bar is raised too high. He can't get to the level of performance that they once saw, because their memories of how that was are so overwhelming. I've learned to listen to what non-fans are saying, just to see if I'm jaded one way or the other. I thought this most recent TV appearance was solid, but not one of his better ones. HOWEVER, most non-fans I've talked to were completley floored by it. I talked to one guy the other day, who stopped me in my apartment complex because he saw my Prince T-shirt, who just raved about the Leno show. He was just blown away by how good Prince was, and went on and on about how he never knew how incredible he was live. Now, to us it sounds like this guy has been living under a rock, but you have to understand that he's never been exposed to anything other than his radio hits. To a newbie, Prince managed to pull them in. He had an incredibly tight performance, and he put on one hell of a show. Cool thing is, WE know that the man can do even better, so just imagine what it will be like when he sees the lil' dude in concert! GREAT POST!!

Marrk said: He did what he had to do. He was fantastic, the performance, his attitude, throwing the Hohner, the swagger to the couch, confusing Mel Gibson, all cool as hell. Classic Prince.
The song's definately a grower too, it's not bad at all. [This message was edited Sun Feb 29 10:51:40 2004 by Marrk] Exactly! I think Prince did a great performance, and although the song ain't that original, I still like it. I am a sucker for old school funk and yes, Musicology is old school funk. Bring it on, Prince! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

What took him so long? Does he realize that we can't go too long without him????? I fought hard to stay awake just to see his performance that night, for me it was a happy belated birthday gift and what a gift it was I was supprised to see him especially when he talked with Leno he seemed calm and very cheerful, seeing him perform made me go to sleep with a smile on my face and I'm happy to say that he was deffinately worth the loss of sleep and all the nodding off that I did at my desk the next day. "GOTTA LOVE UM" I'm just a junky for the sound.

It was aaaight... I liked that he was so into it & had fun. As for the song It was most definitely better than when he did "The Work" but he did NOT rip it. And everytime he appears on TV & doesn't rip it, he's blowing it. Come on Princey, kickass in public man...
