UptownDeb

There's something about the music that seems dated. I don't mean the old school references but the sound. Like he could've written this song 20 years ago. Aside from the "Tighten Up" sample, it just didn't sound very progressive to me. But, even with that said, I really liked the performance.

well, non prince boards are raving about how good the performance was.

yeah, but that's folks outside of the fanbase, though. more than likely they haven't seen very many performances of the cat, like your average prince fan/friend/geek/freek/fam/whoever, so they're seein stuff like this as pretty fresh. see what i'm sayin? nod

and those are the people he's trying to reach with this performance, so it's working, right?

Goddamn, yet another lame and tame performance. The song is just so fucking terrible. I'm sure if he had chosen a better song, it would have been a much better show. But of course, is he capable of making a good song anymore? He can't even play one of his hits without fucking it up with some jazzy bullshit, or his own brand of self-sensorship. The only reason he got the applause that he did was because of who he was in the 80's. If he were a new artist and Musicology was his first single, he'd get the tamest response allowed and nobody would give a fuck about him.

I really enjoyed the performance last night. Even if ya don't care for the song, the band is as tight as some Jordache jeans from '82. They sounded great.

I was relieved when it was over, that's for sure. It was just so fuckin corny. The song sucks, the energy was bland, and even the band is shit. Compared to The Revolution, Lovesexy Band, and even early NPG, this band is garbage. Sure they can play their instruments, but they have no personality. The show was a great cure for insomnia.

Well I might as well thrown my two cents in...

Loved the performance, thought the song itself lacked a good hook. I wish they'd given prince a bit more time. Two songs would have been nice. We had almost an entire hour of Mel Gibson.

LOVED IT!

Can't understand why anyone would have a problem in the world with the tune or the performance.

I guess some folks would've preferred "East" or "Purple Rain" for the millionth time.

You know, I let you have your opinion of course... but DAMN, where's your mind? lol
I mean... I just don't understand it at all. If you don't like the song, fine.. but to say there was no energy, don't know... neutral

And of course does he get more applause because everyone knows him asa star from the 80s, don't understand that argument.

And what does it mean the band has "no pesonality"? Of course his sound now his more ordinary, old-school, live, whatever you want to call it... not the trade-mark 80s-Prince-Sound.
But besides that I think this band has his place in his work.

And one more thing: he CAN play old hits without making jazz out of them. Just listen to recent performances of Controversy or DMSR.

This is embarrassing. For years I thought he said "CIRCUS CLOWN". I always thought it made more sense that way. Guess that was a blonde moment for me. But my question is what is a circus town? Also, isn't it sort of lame for Prince to rhyme the word "town" with itself?

I was really bored by it. It made me sleepy.

And of course does he get more applause because everyone knows him asa star from the 80s, don't understand that argument.

I just wonder if he knows that the applause was for who he was and not who he is now.

But besides that I think this band has his place in his work.

But when you look at past band members, they were much more fun to watch and you really got to know them after a while.

And one more thing: he CAN play old hits without making jazz out of them. Just listen to recent performances of Controversy or DMSR.

It just seems he always adds some horns and shit where they don't belong. But also, his band is more of a jazz band than anything. So they're sound will definitely be obvious in everything.

Boy, at least your name is appropo... Sheesh! Did you ever hear of "fun"? It's obvious that you're just a wee bit out of touch with the idea of a simple good time, cause that's what this all seems to be about for Prince, and for those who want to do something other than compare today with decades that are far gone.

By the way, to call this band "shit" and "garbage" is to basically scream, "By the way everyone, in addition to being bitter and joyless, I am also DEEF!"

Damn, you need a hug or somethin'?

I think the song is good. Very James Brown. I think it needed a little oomph...but it's not terrible. I'd like to see it done live...sounds like it could go into The Work...as it sounds similar. Prince seemed to enjoy himself playing it, so that's what really matters to him anyway. Again not the greatest, but certainly not the worst. I also don't think we got that good of sound out of it either...could barely hear Rhonda.

Honestly I liked "Reflection" better...at least of the new materail he's been playing.
