Now that W2A is out, how long until the D&P SDE announcement? I know a lot of people on The Org have been ticked off that we've gotten no official word on the next Super Deluxe Edition (SDE) to be released. . But it's my theory that there was a lot of coordination between the Estate and WB/Sony to make sure that any big releases got their appropriate time in the sun, before the next product was announced. . If W2A had been announced, and then two weeks later we were told, "Hey, there's a big boxset for D&P coming not long after!", it would steal the thunder (see what I did there?) from the W2A release. . Sooooo... now that W2A is out, how long do you think it'll be before we officially hear about the next SDE? . I'm thinking it won't be until September. They'll give W2A a good month before its toes are stepped on. . What does everyone else think? . (My W2A deluxe set is supposed to be delivered today. Can't wait to give it a listen!)

I‘ll say they‘ll announce it on the 1st of october, which would be exactly 30 years after it‘s release. See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

People have been claiming there would be an announcement for the D&P SDE weeks ago (apparently even Andrea Swensson said something along those lines) and I've always said: no way Sony/Legacy is going to allow the Estate to step on their release. . I don't think they'll announce anything very soon (because that would be stepping on W2A), so perhaps by end of August. However, that leaves them very little time, and honestly I cannot see them doing an SDE in the midst of the Christmas season. . Honestly, they've announced W2A waaay too late and then it still was a four month wait; IMHO they should have ignored any delays WRT vinyl and/or that stupid SDE package. W2A should have been announced far earlier and released by early June, allowing for an SDE announcement by end of June and a D&P SDE by October. © Bart Van Hemelen

- I follow Bart's idea. By the way, October would be too late to announce a release that is quite dificult for The Estate to create as a Thirty years anniversary release... by when? Christmas ? A year later perhaps ? Don't think so. I do hope i'm wrong though. But Bart possibly is right - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. They'll announce it later this month
With the release in October Though I wouldn't be surprised if its later. I doubt it has to be released exactly on the same day it came out in 91 [Edited 8/11/21 4:00am]

D&P SDE would be a WB release wouldn't it? Not sure they'd really care about Sony at all beyond W2A being received well by many. Business is business. They might strike while the iron is hot. As business does.

Like I already said 315 times, if D&P is not announced by early September, there s no way it could be out this year with preorders. And early September would mean fuck W2A, so there's no wat to that. D&P is a big like 15 vinyls release, so that's a huge problem in term of production. They should really work aside on a easy-to-release deluxe, such as Dirty Mind, in case their initial too-big plans are impossible to release on time.

Well if they can't manage to squeeze in DP ( ) before the end of the year, why not release PARADE SDE?

in future I wish they would stick to a bit of a solid release schedule:

No, I believe Warners now only hold the rights to the soundtrack albums - so Purple Rain, Parade, Graffiti Bridge and Batman. Everything else is Sony.

Oh. Thanks for clarifying. Batman SDE would be interesting. 2029 is the 40th anniversay. Not too long!

- Really ? Sure about that ? How the hell are they going to fill that ? With what ? All the EP's and remixes that we all have, and no one really cares about ? I'll sure best talk for myself, without getting bashed here by deep D&P remixes lovers. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. - I guess due to the pandemic they were not even able to get it all done, or to take such risks imho. . They could have easily done W2A as a "normal" album, but no, there had to be five different vinyl versions, and an overpriced box set with tons of pointless paper. That is what slowed this down. . W2A should have been announced in January and released in April, The Truth re-issue for RSD in June, and right after an announcement for an SDE release in September. © Bart Van Hemelen

- I couldn't agree more. I did not spend my money (yet) on those rediculous unneeded parafernalia. If i ever find it in a sale option, i might reconsidder it, just for the Blue Ray. But, in the meantime i did see the concert at a friends's house. And I wasn't all that impressed with the show i general. Prince didn't seem to have that much fun, played on automatic pilot, and thrived too much on his predictable too long'party' grooves, and unispired chants. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. They put on vinyl live performances on 2/3 vinyls, when it s compleyely useless and cut the performance in 4 or 6 sides (!), losing completely the energy of the shows. They also wasted 2 vinyls for the edit version. While some of them were interesting ( real b- sides for instance), edits didn't deserved that. It s all for a cash-grab. They will do the same shit, sadly with D&P. 2 or 3 vinyls full of Gett Off remixes.

I was the first here to say the original release date ( in april!) Was impossible to to stand, but the estate/Sontly/WB just want to cash with very useless expensive sets. They do the maths, and I don't think if W2A was sold at 25$ (cd+blu ray), they would have made as much money as what they eventually released. W2A is doing the AOA numbers did 7 years ago, with less promotion, in holiday summer, within a dead market, and at a price 5 times higher. Do the maths yourself. [Edited 8/12/21 9:17am]

You just post nonsense post after nonsense post here and frame them as if they're factual and expect everyone else to put up with it.
The SDEs are all a 'cash grab' because they contain 7-inch edits... placing a whole show on three pieces of vinyl 'ruins the flow' of a show... and is therefore pointless... this is just the tip of the iceberg.
These are your opinions and they are based on nothing but your own twisted fantasies. It's all nonsense. It's no wonder the rest of the web considers this place a toxic shithole.
If you don't want people to call you out on it and get annoyed with you, then stop posting nonsense as if it were fact.
It really is that simple. [Edited 8/12/21 12:29pm]

Am I typing in a foreign language?! Yes, I know exactly what edits they put on the Sign SDE, and how they arranged the live show. I have the SDE. It's a fantastic vinyl package. It would not be complete without those 7-inch edits, etc... I love them being there. And it's great that they put the full live show in there on vinyl. Of course it had to be broken up across sides. People who don't like changing sides of vinyl are just lazy or weird.
That's not the problem. The problem is you saying that the fact that they did this was a 'waste' or a 'cash grab'.... they were neither.

Of course they are mostly about the SDE. Didn't you check amazon in many countries during the preorder week? That was the SDE that was #1, not the regular 15 $ CD version. It s still the SDE that ranks higher than the regular version currently on amazon. Remember Originals? It sold like 20.000 the week of release, only the regular edition Then, 3 weeks after they released the SDE, and it sold the same amount, if not more. So we may reasonably assume that at least half the sales are dedicated to the SDE. When AOA came, there was only the CD version. The vinyl edition was released months after, and it didn't chart. So yes, W2A is making a lot more money than AOA.

Of course that was a cash-grab, the fact that you/I liked it or not has nothing to do with it. I like the W2A packaging, but that doesn't change the fact it s a shameless cash-grab too, containing many useless things. I m not saying they shouldn't have put the edits or live versions for the extra-SDE LP version. But they should have put it on CD along the LP of the album, unreleased tracks, etc. Now the estate is drowning with these huge boxset, making the deadline s impossible to accomplish.

And round and round we go. So, the Estate charged money for product, so it was a cash grab?
So anything that is sold for money is a cash grab.
