I honestly think W2A is it for this year because we only have 4 months left.

As soon as possible pls! I hope in the autumn, after all they didn't announce 1999 til quite soon before it came out, failing that maybe early 2022.

It's not as if W2A would affect sales, the classic remasters are guaranteed an audience regardless.

People here have short memory.
1999 deluxe was officially announced the 2nd September of 2019, for a release on the 29th of November.

And there were preorder links like a week before the announcement.

Announced on 10th September 2019 for the 29th November release:

About a two-and-a-half month lead time. Originals came out in early June that year too. My reckoning, there is still time for a super deluxe announcement and release this year. Depends on them record plants being able to churn out the discs, though.

check a calendar, please

In 2019, 1999 SDE was announced more than 2 months and a half, and contained " Only" 10 LP IIRC.
In 2020, SOTT SDE was announced 3 months in advance (25/06-25/09)
Now, in 2021 W2A had to be announced 3 months and a half.

Between 2020 and 2021, vinyl sales have been multiplied by two, and the demand is increasing so much, the delays take usually 3 to 5 months.
So, for a 13/15 LP release such as D&P ( which by the way was only thought for the CD format biggrin ) , I let you imagine...

So the time needed in 2019 for 1999 won't be the same than for D&P.
I really hope they give up the LP SDE for D&P)( only the album + unreleased tracks, the lives and b-sides on CD only), or else that project is doomed for 2021.

Are you going to promise to leave the org again if there is a SDE released this year (might tempt fete)? Some of us don’t have such short memories. Seriously, I think we all would like another big bulk release of unheard remastered Vault tracks as quickly as our bank balances can afford it. But yeah, unlikely this year, but we can hope.

The dush didn't want to make that deal at the time.

I was glad 1999 SDE was released in 2019, and hope D&P will be released this year, but that s just not credible.

but why isn't it possible that plants are already pressing D&P SDE LPs since a few months?

do they always start pressing only after announcement has been made?

for security reasons etc, perhaps, although it seems an invalid reason.

and they could easily press 80% of what 1999 SDE and SOTT SDE sold in numbers and be
confident of selling all of them so no need to exclusively wait for pre orders to see how many
units they should be pressing.

so with that reasoning, behind the scenes the whole package could be completed, shipped to
pressing plants and just awaiting announcement -> completion -> shipping.

word would have reached us about it by now, I guess, since leaks are always present with
regard to information about upcoming releases.

but still, it's possible, isn't it?

also, with many releases that I purchased in the past, artists would release the cd/download
first and the LP would just take a month or sometimes even 2 months longer to arrive since
it was still in the process of being pressed etc.

no problem if you get a download code with your purchase of the LP package so that you can
listen to the tracks on the release day of the digital/cd versions as well.

So, if it were so simple as you say it, why didn't they never do that?
Why the time between announcement amd release increases as the years pass on?

That happened with AOA at the time, and also happened with Originals lately.

Indeed, like I already said it, to me the solution is they release it only on CD format to be on time for Christmas.
But maybe in wreckastore for such big boxsets, it s easier to sell and to market if the CD amd LP version is released at the same time.

I do hope they release it only on CD, for a start.

My guess:
announcement: october 1st will mark the 30th anniversary of D&P release.
DVD: live in London Earls Court from June 15th or 24th (both were professionally filmed).

can you imagine if there was some sort of stripped down, or completely different arrangement of "Jughead" where the song is actually really very good? lol

you know that you could leave that to prince, to file away the stellar version and release the updated/remixed/overproduced headscratcher lol

I surely hope so too. It would be great to get another SDE this year. Particularly this D&P SDE, they need to get that nut out so we can move back to some classic 80s albums next year. I want all of the albums to have SDE releases but I really wish Parade and Dirty Mind/Controversy will be the next ones to be released, in 2022.

With the difficulties in pressing vinyl seeming to be the issue, I just read this report from the Super Deluxe Edition website (that may have been posted before on here):

https://superdeluxeeditio...-pandemic/

It explains a lot about what is going on and why D&P SDE mightn’t be coming soon. However, might the label producing it (Sony) have had the foresight to order both W2A and D&P back to back, so as the production of W2A was out of the way, D&P can start, rather than waiting for the announcement and pre-orders? Given previous SDE numbers they should know what quantity to make, don’t you think? In fact, they should consult RODSERLING.

I m sorry to be realistic.

By the way, for a reminder, where is the reedition of Crystal Ball ?
biggrin

They completely stopped the waves of reedition, I told you that a year ago too.

If it s Sony that release D&P SDE, and not WB, that's not good news, because Sony won't announce it before the end of W2A "promotion".

Matthieu Bitton said last month his work on W2A was not over yet. The single for Rolling Stone is due to be out on late August, it s a mensual magazine, meaningful it will be sold until late September.

The SDE of W2A is to ve released on August, 25th in Japan too.

That might be it after all that, but the window to announce D&P for a Christmas release will be very short after that.

And maybe they hope a Grammy nomination for November? wink
A new vinyl single with Cause and Effect, that was on the original tracklist?

Jughead is actually very good.

yes, this is why i said i wanted new versions of it badly. it is already excellent, and arguably the most forward looking song on the D&P album, the song that if given the right push, could have given new york hip hop at the time a run for its money. alas, only a few die hard fans know it. hopefully with the SDE, it will finally get a release as a single in its own right, and people will see 90s prince in a whole new light.

lol

Considering that W2A was intended to be released earlier but suffered heavy delays (according to at least one interview), I don't see how a far more complicated box set could be announced and released more swiftly. COVID19 is still here and is still causing plenty of problems.

.

Moreover, considering D&P would require coordination between WBR/R (non-USA) and S/L (USA), that is another hurdle.

.

Plus you need to organize promotion, interviews, etc.

.

And this would come very soon after W2A, so you need to be careful not to saturate the market. (Even WRT reporting: I can imagine some magazines etc. objecting to needing to report on yet another Prince album in the space of only a few months.)

Well not me. As I said the release was announced quite soon before it came out, 2-3 months.

We are still in mid August, not Septenber yet, so quite conceivable that it could be announced soon for a late November release as with 1999 deluxe.

And scrapping what's left of the" promotion" of W2A?
Fucking all the W2A left in stores ?
Do they/we really want that?

I never saw the wreckastores ordering so many Prince's album since a long time, even for Musicology there wasn't so many in stores the first week.
So maybe it s reasonable to think the estate and the wreckastores would rather sell their loads of W2A before releasing anything else?

I never saw so many good press reviews for a Prince studio album.

Obviously, nothing will be announced until W2A leave the sales charts.
For the moment, the 2nd week of sales looks like the 1st week of Originals and Piano and Mic.
It still in the top ten in the US after all.
Too soon to see if it has legs, but it seems it is.

It s a commercial and critical success, maybe they think it can win awards or some shit like that.

Abd are you aware about the German Rolling Stone Magazine with the Hot Summer single being available until late September, the box set being available in Japan only late August?

Isn't this the last year of WB being able to release a deluxe set under their label? If so, the Deluxe(D&P) is going to happen. And as some one mention about the 1999 deluxe time line. It still could happen. If we hear nothing by the end of September-most likely not? I still think it's going to happen, too much profit on these deluxe sets.
