I note Elisa states in the Rolling Stone article that 'Stand Up B Strong' is 'unfinished' with 'empty production', which is an honest but odd comment when promoting the album. Morris also indicates that 'Check the Record' was unfinished and awaiting Prince to add guitar, which Prince suggests vocally on the track. As 'Born 2 Die' also sounded somewhat empty and incomplete to me, it seems this album is not the finished product many of us initially believed.
I'm hoping for the Prince, Sonny & Michael B version of "Stand Up and B Strong" appears as a B-side to a single as Michael Howe has already found it
Has Howe actually confirmed he's found a version with Michael & Sonny?
.
I recall on Podcast Juice Michael B said P asked him to call Dave Pirner to get permission to record SUABS and also being unsure if P knew the lyrics at the time. |

I'm pretty sure I read it in a recent interview, but i'm unable to find it at the moment (maybe on one of those subscription pages that occasionally let you read the full article)
From PRINCEVAULT.......
In a 2021 interview, archivist Michael Howe stated that Prince initially recorded a version of this track in 2007 with Michael Bland (drummer on the Soul Asylum original) and Sonny T. The version included on Welcome 2 America is a re-recording from March 2010 with a different band line-up. he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Can someone please answer a couple of questions about this release for me?
When I look on Amazon, the delux version (including the blu-ray) seems to come only in the lp version, however, when I read the specs it says it includes 2 lp's and CD versions, as well as the blu-ray. Am I understanding this correctly? If I order the delux, will I get 2 lp's as well as the CD versions and blu-ray? I really don't want the lp's, but I can't see anything available with just the CD's and blu-ray. I'm confused |

I'm afraid the only option for the "Deluxe" set is both LP's and CD's together, However if you are not fussed about the large booklet, faux backstage pass, poster etc. You can get a CD/Blu-ray only version from Japan https://www.cdjapan.co.jp...f1940e2614 he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The album is rated 7/10 with a fairly positive review. |

Kind of a lazy review. AOA, PE, and the HNR albums were progressive fusion?

There is another review in record collector by Jason Draper.
He gave it 4 stars. The picture I saw was too small for me to read. |

you're right, that's a pretty lazy review. you could argue that one could have written that review without even hearing the album at all.
but it's nice to see a prince album getting better than just luke warm reviews, so there is that

From the little bit of the Mojo review I could read(the picture was annoyingly covered on purpose) it was positive. It does seem to criticize Stand Up and B Strong. It refers to it as soppy ballad and heavily features the back up singers. [Edited 7/16/21 13:56pm]

I think we'll find that the whole album heavily features the back up singers

I remember it well. Back in those day when they announced this, no one had even heard of this thing 'global warming' or 'climate change' yet.
Look how far we've come since
And now the album is almost here

you know i'm not #stuckinthe80s, but i think they really dropped the fucking ball here. from the announcement being like 4 months ago lmao to fairly minimal promotion to not going even further with the set, i think they made a mistake here, and i'm excited to listen to it and will purchase the CD.
if the diamonds and pearls set only has 3 vault cd's i am literally going to vomit. |

the promo campaign up until now was sort of weird and very much concentrated in 1 burst at the very start.
which makes me think they might want to milk this project some more at or after the release date and if so, it might only help them sell marginal extra numbers but it will certainly eat into the time left to release "diamonds & pealrls SDE" later this year.
I do pray that is still on the table and I do pray there will be so many vault songs that we have a whole new little universe of music to swim in. But I won't hold my breath.
This album could have and should have had at least 1 extra bonus disc of era specific vault tracks in a deluxe edition - instead of just some paper and plastic junk. If not now then when will those kind of tracks ever be released? (I was listening to "Only Heaven Knows" on youtube a while back, for example. And what about "Gingerbread Man" etc etc?).
