I know this isn't going to be a popular viewpoint probably but I'm kinda annoyed about this release. Why go from the 80s remasters straight to the 2010's? Doesn't make any sense. I'm sure I can't be the only one who'd really like the Parade remaster next instead of this? Baffling!
can't be stuck in the 80s forever
Haha!
Better to be stuck there than the 2010's |

So glad that they are not releasing the disc as a DVD (fingers crossed this blu-ray format is real). It's 2021, and people have 4K TVs, there is no reason DVD's should even be a thing.
Well they probably couldn’t upscale the 80s live shows... a bluray of that 1999 live show would have been a ripoff and unnecessary
True, if it was shot in SD, then release it in SD. For example Lovesexy Live can only be accurate in SD.
Of course now with AI upscaling becoming common.... Upscale the Purple Rain Syracuse show all you want... no one is gonna notice a difference unless they found the original sources... and they probably can’t find it, Prince probably ran over those tapes with his bike while he was on his way to the wrecka stow |

Well, that was ten years ago. The full scope of Obama's presidency and current "team" moves, have left many re-considering their positions. Too bad Prince can't speak for himself in 2021 - MSM, record company & estate will milk this album for its supposed context regardless.
Lol. Dream on. Not only is that irrelevant to the album's release, it's also flat out not true. Republicans are in the gutter given they're the sex offending insurrectionist party. Prince wasn't either a sex offender or an insurrectionist. He was religious and didn't vote. And I'm sure a political album by a rich black person will have some interesting thoughts that may conflict with the wider public but he didn't vote for any Republicans in this lifetime or the next. [Edited 4/8/21 9:13am]
Sorry to disappoint you. I'm not summoning support for the "other side" either. Scandals and corruption you will find anywhere - it's usually a matter of who does the focusing, and who gets fed the ensuing "discoveries". Left/Right is a construct that serves the interests of only one group of people - one-party systems, two-party systems, all party systems - people in every so-called democracy are finding, that all political parties have one goal in common: to extract power from everyone, but those who are already at the very top. Ignoring all the pundits, taste-makers, big-mouths etc, we are so miraculously indoctrinated to pay attention to, may not lead to more time with the family, or better views, or better jobs - but it does promise freedom of thought. And yes, Prince himself fell for the lies of these elites, yet managed to go to bed with them, whenever it seemed to serve his own needs. |

What makes you think the Syracuse show isn't from the original master video tape? That was the quality of pro video with tube cameras straining with concert lighting at that time. |

They should think of doing a special bespoke edition with its own shelving unit just to keep folks happy who get bothered about the size/shape conundrum. [Edited 4/8/21 12:11pm]There may or may not be something coming! |

Yes, I'm looking forward to having my mind blown by the etching, and then marvel at it for years - first thing in the morning, right before bed. Can the Estate please issue the fortchcoming Crystall Ball re-release as an all-etching issue, spread over six, no, twelve sides on glorious purple vinyl?! |

Also, I don't own a blu-ray player, so there's no point in buying the deluxe version. And the set list of the concert doesn't look very interesting: greatest hits and covers. I hope there will be a single CD version. 3-sided vinyl albums are quite a common thing these days. It makes sense, given the length of the album. It’s not ‘a waste’. And this is a physical release, and in that sense, the video content should be released in the highest quality possible for the content. In this case, that’s Blu-ray. How would rather they physically release it? It might be cooler if it had one of them multi grooves, rather than a blank 4th side. There may or may not be something coming! |

Now THIS is the kind of release I am looking forward to!!! I ordered the gold, black and clear versions of the vinyl. Plus the deluxe box and CD. Oh, and the 45. They sure know how to soak us collectors
I have enough money to buy the compact disc version, so I did But I'm glad that people are buying multiple, more expensive packages. The better these releases sell the more we will get of them in future

Being an archivist/collector, one is likely to be anal about uniformity as the nature of collecting encourages us to be anal about all aspects of our collection. We have to be to maintain an impressive collection. When we have a shelf(shelves) of releases going back decades, displayed in chronological order, we want the new release right there in it's proper spot, not on some other shelf because it doesn't fit.
That said, some of these deluxe sets are so sweet that I figure it's worth it.

Where will this go on the shelf, though? At the end because it’ll be the latest release or does it go after 20ten? Good job there’s three-and-a-half months until release day - that gives plenty of time to decide. There may or may not be something coming! |

Is the only way of getting the Blu Ray if you buy the $100 Deluxe edition? Like, is there a CD/Blu Ray deluxe edition that doesn't include the vinyls that I'll never listen to?
And there we have the problem with this set: one person doesn't own a record player, another doesn't own a blu-ray player...
Same problem here. Really looking forward to the CD, would also love to have the yinyl. But I don't own a blu-ray player. So is it really worth it to invest in another device I will probably never need again? (Although I probably will if the D&P Deluxe Set also comes with a Blu Ray ) |
