Neither are among my absolute most listened-to Prince albums. Maybe D&P if I was pushed to say. It’s Love Symbol/Come/The Gold Experience that I’d be *really* excited to see get the SDE treatment, but at the current rate of releases, those are about 15 to 20 years away, lol.

I feel like Diamonds and Pearls and the Symbol album are very much just part 1 and 2 of the same era. The sessions in the studio for the two are the same, right?

Not really, IIRC, the bulk of the sessions for prince took place in late 91, after D&P was released. According to the last recorded overdubs, the albums follow each other as such:

D&P (rec. late 89 to mid 1991)

prince (rec. mid 91 to mid 92)

Carmen Electra (rec. early 89 to late 92)

Gold Nigga (rec. late 90 to mid 93)

.

All 4 albums form a kind of quadrilogy for sure, though, with a strong focus on hip-hop music, self-esteem themed lyrics and, save for CE, a stonger emphasis on live in the studio band recordings than earlier.

.

Thematically, CE is also sort of a female conterpart to prince , with both records displaying a heroic, ego-trippish portrayal of their respective main perfomers. Unfortunately to very different results in terms of quality lol

Yes, the only track you could say got carried over from the D&P sessions is The Flow.
And that was re-recorded and differed by the exit of Rosie and some of Tony’s verses were cut.

Well okay, not by actual recording dates, but by band personnel and arrangement philosophy. He went with a certain set of instrument voices and reverb sounds, and mostly a full band sound with a core of real instrumentation.

The remixes of "Cream" completely blur with "My Name is Prince". Same tracks shared in those layers. The Get Off video collection (I think it was that) has him watching the tape of Mayte that is probably the same one shown given to him in the "My Name is Prince" video. Or was that the Diamonds and Pearls video collection?

Yes, those Cream and MNIP remixes do share similar sounds. The same guy, KC Cohen, done some of them.
.
And yes some of the video footage does overlap from the Gett Off home video and the 3 Chains O Gold movie.

I fully agree. Even though the recording dates might differ, to me the two albums sound very similar in instrumentation and production, the band is almost the same except for Morris and Rosie, and his typhoon hairdo during the Symbol/Act I&II era is pretty much a more excessive form of his Diamonds and Pearls typhoon.

Back in the day it wasn´t a different era/album if the hairdo wasn´t different, too. biggrin

I love d and p BUT I think they will stick to his classic period first.

The era that reminds ppl how special he was.

Then they will move on to the 90s.

Or they will do both.

Which is good for me

Parade and don’t include that version of “Others here with us” with the strings mixed in. It’s horrible!

Original Prince fans want Parade

Younger Prince fans who discovered him in the 90s are still fighting for their lives and defending that era and wants the D&P SDE

Once again I happen to agree with the original Prince fans

JayCrawford is jealous of 1990s Prince, that's why he acts out. He's also terribly insecure and jealous of us, very reasonable, fans that want more 90s stuff over another 80s release. Terribly jealous, quite sad, really.

Parade Super Deluxe makes the most sense from a financial stand point. Although, D & P sold more albums and is a great POP album. D & P is not a fan or critical top five favorite Prince album. Parade and Dirty Mind are far more critically acclaimed and should be the next 2 deluxes IMO.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

90s Prince fans. Let us original fans get our shit first. We witnessed Prince when he was the king of music throughout the 80s. You 90s fans witnessed nothing but dog shit.

Fucks sake, go to bed grandpa.
