Parade.

.

I like the Diamonds and Pearls era but found the early configurations of that album a bit sketchy, with songs that rehashed previous ideas such as Glam Slam 91, and classics such as Gett Off were added quite late.

When Parade came out Prince said that there weren´t enough strong songs on it and that he should´ve waited a bit longer with its release but I think he was really prolific during those sessions.

They could combine it with an uncut version of the birthday show in Detroit..

.

A Diamonds and Pearls SDE could be interesting, too , but for me, it would have to contain a professionally shot full length Diamonds and Pearls concert DVD to be interesting. He wrote some great songs for others in this era but I guess those songs would be more part of another Originals set rather than a D&P SDE, wouldn´t they?

Definitely Parade. I honestly haven't listened to D&P in its entirety, but I'm not a fan of "Cream" or any of the new jack swing stuff Prince was doing at the time, so I can't say I'm interested in a SDE.

let me put it this way: the vault tracks on diamonds and pearls i think would be more interesting and revelatory than the vault tracks on parade, though i'm sure i would enjoy both very much so. i just want to branch out of the eighties

Definitely "Parade". There are too many 1980s albums that haven't been covered yet to start getting into the 1990s and at a slow pace of only one deluxe treatment per year and I'm 53 years old, I'm not getting any younger and don't have 30 and 40 years left to wait for all the good stuff. And even after the 1980s stuff, I'd rather have the two 1970s albums deluxe treatments before we start getting into the 1990s.

Parade is my favorite Prince album, so that one.

That said, if part of Diamonds and Pearls was a Tony-free version, I'd be all about it.

Please stop with the Tony bashing. Tony was part of the band and part of the whole D&P experience. It was the early 90’s and that’s where music was at that point! [Edited 1/13/21 12:49pm]

I know. And that's exactly why I have no interest in going back there. Hearing unheard previously unreleased tracks from the 1980s for the first time after living through the 1990s, is like finally waking up from a bad dream and it feels sooooo good. lol

Parade, but doing it right in my opinion will be hard. In order to really do it justice you would need to include the version without Clare Fischer`s orchestration, Clare`s original orchestrated version in full, all of the songs used in the movie and score tracks. You would also need to add a 4K reconstruction of the Cobo Hall 1986 film mastered from film as well as both the full gig and the memorial arena gig.Add to that period relevent tracks like Stella and Charles and you have a very big box

Since you ask, here is my wish list. It's much more about the unheard Vault tracks than about the albums.

1. Batman (how great it would be to hear all the RUTJF tracks ?)

2. Controversy/Dirty Mind (Please, give us some young hungry Prince)

3. For You/Prince (I'll never get enough of Young Prince)

4. Parade (Many essential outakes to add to a SDE release here)

5. Graffiti Bridge (We'd have here a vast collection of interesting Vault tracks considered at one point for inclusion on GB).

I could be interested in Diamonds & Pearls though...only if they add a whole CD of Originals tracks.

Parade, even though there are already lots of great outtakes and concerts available! Maybe Parade can even be a bigger Super Deluxe than SOTT, content-wise.

If D&P is the next box set, I won't buy it, even it was 10 disks.

I will wait till it's in a bargain corner, or illegal download it from the net.

Meh! smile Sorry guys.

Peace though.

Don't forget the movie finally in Colour !

That would be great. smile

But I have no idea if they still have the rights to use the movie again.

Like the SOTT was explained here as a mess concernight rights and all.

And I hope they don't include the première of the movie performance in Sheridan i believe that was. wink

Same here. I won't spend one dime on it. If it sells well, they'll think that's the type of stuff that most folks want and they will release more of it....delaying the good stuff even longer. In the words of Don Knotts.... "Nip it in the bud". lol

To be honest, "IF" 'Diamonds & Pearls' is the next box set,

probably my wallet will scream and take revenge on me,

and still buy it despite what I think. wink))

-

I'm just another weak average dirty Prince fan with a big mouth (but my job pays well). wink

That's the problem with being a Prince fan sometimes.

And possibly tomorrow I might have another more stronger opinion and kill that damn album - again.

It's just that I never like that wall of sound of that mothertucker.

Neither his band, or his entourage, his haircut and his outfits and his videos of that specific era.

Even didn't like the concderts i've seen.

Everything seems so outdated orf that era, at least to me.

Sorry again dolls and guys. smile

I'll take whatever's being released. But if both are released, then D&P, please. It's not that I'm tired of the 80s, but it would be good to hear something else for a change.

Of course not. But people just have to have something to talk about - however inane the topic may be.

Wow.

Funny enough, the 'brand' Prince & The Revoltuion (if you like to put it like that)

is still stronger than the brand Prince & the NPG, or New Power Generation.

(Possibly the symbol is also better known than the NPG thing.)

In my humble opinion of course.

And you have all the right in the world to like D&P. wink

I just hope that whatever comes out next is affordable. SOTT:SDE, regardless of how amazing it is, it's just too expensive. If the new sets are that expensive, count me out.

1999:SDE was much more realistic.

Yes, that's why a Dirty Mind SDE ( for instance) would be more affordable than a Parade or D& P release.
Personally, I think D&P is far better than Parade.
When you pick a Parade'song separately, you can hear this is no more than average material.
The B-sides of Parade's era are terrible, so I can't imagine what the unreleased material worth.

I think there's reasons to argue for either one, Parade or D&P. Since the original posted question is which one I want first, then the answer is Parade, hands down! That album really needs the remastering treatment. Same goes for the Cobo Birthday concert which we'd hopefully get. I only discovered that one the day he passed away after catching it on one of the many cable channel all-Prince, all day tributes.
Everyime we get a Deluxe package, half of the orgers demand they focus on eras outside of the 80's, and I agree, to some extent. But I think after we get Parade and Lovesexy/Black Album, a lot of us would be OK with moving on.

On the other hand, a lot of us broke the bank to get Sign O the Times Super Deluxe, so a "regular, non-super" deluxe treatment for D&P would probably be better for most. That way, completists and newer fans can get it. And everyone else can skip it and save cash for that Super Deluxe Parade next.

Personally I would be happy with both. I was actually getting REALLY excited for Parade until they said D&P. I’d love it if Parade was released in the Spring and D&P in the Fall! We’re not getting any younger!

The only people buying the Super Deluxe Editions are hardcore Prince fans. A causal fan will never sit through the entire "1999" or "SOTT" SDE sets.

A "D&P" set is the most likely release that would appeal to a casual fan, but they're not going to buy it. They'll stream it once or twice and never listen to it again. The hardcore Prince fan will buy it, because they (myself included) will buy any SDE that is released, but I think a "Parade" set is the one that will get the hardcore fan to pull out their wallet and lay down the cash.

I had the same thought. They should release Parade in spring or right before spring because for some reason it has such a spring vibe to it. I can listen to it all the way through without skipping a song and it always reminds me of spring. Maybe it´s a subconscious thing, maybe it´s because of that line in Sometimes It Snows in April, or because of the spring atmosphere in Under The Cherry Moon but Parade is a perfect spring album.

Parade, easily. A remastered version of that album would be incredible, and a pristine version of "Go" would be the cherry on top!
