- Italy and France (and some other latin Mediterranean countries) are mono cultures and far more focused on their own culture. Always have been. And most youngsters in theses countries basically have no idea about Prince. Once saw a girl (18 yo?) in Lyon (city in east of France) wearing a cool Prince t-shirt, and asked her if she knew who he was. She had no idea, but found the t-shirt cool because it was a 'vintage-thing'. -

i think they pressed up a LOT of these. so i doubt it will go up in price any time soon, for those of you hoping to sell it on.

I thought mistakenly SOTT deluxe was already out of the UK SALES charts (physical + digital) after only two weeks. In fact it is now spending its fourth ( and probably last) week in this chart.
. Chartrun : 4-47-89-97. . For the physical sales charts, thisis even slightly better: . Chartrun : 2-44-87-94 [Edited 10/26/20 9:35am]

Prince is no Michael Jackson. Its interesting to see why Michael Jackson is known by younger people and Prince is not.

SOTT deluxe sold about the same amount in France than in UK or Germany. It s just that box sets are ineligible to chart.

Prince still rules the US sales chart this week: #63 SOTT #65 Purple Rain . Chartrun of SOTT since its reissue : 7-21-38-63

Prince's music challenged the listner more so than MJ's music. Not to mention the Prince "sound" changed from album to album. Inconjuction to Prince music and videos not readily being available on the web for many years. And Prince wasn't a label artist getting the full backing of a label (like in the 80's.) 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Best selling album of the year in the US so far ( week 42) . #69 Purple Rain (72.000) #163 SOTT (34.000)

What chart are you using?

Actually based off Nielsen Soundscan pure album sales.

This is good news. Let's get it rolling.
Releases revolving around shows/dates would be great ones ie First Avenue 6.7.1984 DVD/rehearsal and CD with photo bookletts

More than likely MJ is a phenomenon that had to do with more than just the music. He was also an incredible investor and had the full backing of a media empire. Two things found even in impoverished countries: cigarettes and MJ records. Prince was like any other artist in that regard. Plenty people have no idea who Madonna or Whitney or Van Halen are etc.

In the US in the 80's, 90's and even until 2007, Prince and MJ sold around the same amount of albums and singles, Outside the US, this is of course another story...

True... Purple Rain outsold all of MJ's abums in the U.S. besides Thriller ofcourse.

What happened in the UK this week?
Was there a documentary on TV about Prince, or the broadcasting of the SOTT movie? Because in its 5th week of re release, SOTT gained 69 positions in the sales charts! It is now #28, its second best week. . Chartrun : 4-47-89-97-28(!) . The physical charts is as always slightly better : Chartrun : 2-44-87-94-26. . In fact this could be explained by its vinyl sales this week (#11 in the vinyl charts). Record store Day? [Edited 10/31/20 6:18am]

In Belgium, it s the downfall for its 5th week
Chartrun : 2-20-21-26-129 . In Netherlands, it stays, steady and has legs Chartrun : 2-70-out-68-51. . SOTT is now the 524th best selling album of all time in this country ( based on charts figures and not on sales). It was the 541th last week. [Edited 10/31/20 6:25am]

Prince still rules the US sales charts. Record Store Day was really profitable to SOTT (#18 in the vinyl chart) , since it gains 30(!) Positions.
Karma : Purple Rain loses 30 places. Now this charts is equally balanced by the ying and the yang. This is so wonderful : . #33 SOTT #95 Purple Rain . Look at that incredible chartrun of the US sales chart. Then close your eyes and try to imagine this is the official Billboard charts like it used to be when it was all about sales : 7-21-38-63-33 . If Trump is reelected, maybe there will be Big Tall Wall all over the place, and everybody will dance to it, and propells SOTT into the top ten again. [Edited 11/3/20 13:32pm]

Best selling album in the US in 2020 so far (week 43) . #70 Purple Rain (74.000) / 2000 copies sold this week. #154 SOTT (39.000) / 5000 copies sold this week . Just Outside the top 200, 1999 sold about 27.000 this year so far.

SOTT now out of all the sales, vinyl and physical UK charts. What is Sonny waiting to release Crystal Ball?

Is it? My arithmetic says less than 1 in 10,000 people bought it worldwide. 100x that many people just voted for Trump.

That's a weird, random, moot and far reaching statistic.

That's certainly the first time I've heard the sales of an expensive, boxset of a 30 year old album compared with votes for a sitting President in one of the most consequential elections in one of the most populous countries in the world.
Did you know that more people voted in the 2019 General Election than bought Sgt. Pepper in 1967? What a flop!
