Parade Deluxe.

I hope to see that but I have doubts.... from what I hear from some birds...the Parade SPDL.would be cancelled again ...so?

Super Parade Deluxe is the most logical choice as the next one to do.

OFFIZIELLE ALBUM TOP 100

3

NEU

Sign 'O' The Times

Prince

SOTT originally peaked at #17 in Germany. The only other best peak position of Prince in this country was Batman, peaking at #3 too. This new peak is really impressive.

You can't compare record sales in the 1980ies with todays market situation. Back then you had to sell MANY more records to enter the top 10 than nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised if the album sold better in the week were it peaked at #17 than last week.

We need total numbers, not chart positions.

[Edited 10/5/20 15:21pm]

Of course.
But you seem to forget the 2020 german charts,as every charts in the world nowadays, includes not only pure sales, but also STREAMING.
And streaming sales accounts now for 80/90% of total sales
So this new peak at #3 is still very incredible, especially if you compare the original #17.
Moreover, I m sure SOTT made more money in Germany last week, than in its original week of release in 1987.
So this is even more amazing.

Would be interesting to see if the sales of the deluxe set make the RIAA certify it at 2x Platinum in USA as it is stated to have sold over 1.6 million in USA alone.

RIAA still has SOTT as 1x Platinum, but Chartmasters including sales plus streaming has it as

  • US – 2,550,000 sold...

Back in 1987, a #17 was like 15.000 copies at the most.
Knowing SOTT deluxe sold about 7/8000 copies in the UK, charting at #7, it is reasonnable to assume it sold the same amount in Germany with a #3 rank.
.
And SOTT deluxe cost 8 to 16 times more than the original release, so do the maths...

But surely you also need to compare the album in the time it's selling in. There are raw numbers, but it's also relative.

I heard it's in the pipeline along with two more.

From Duane Tudahl (last interview in french magazine Funku) «Of course, I can't reveal the content of the next project, but the Prince Estate is working on something unexpected, surprising, profound and very complete. Prince has recorded so much music, and I think we'll be talking about these reissues for the next twenty or thirty years, if not more.» Any guesses ?

Really strange that SOTT didn t make the top 200 last week in France.
It was #2 in Belgium, #3 in Germany, #7 in UK, so I m sure it should have made the top 10 ( sales+streaming).
The first ordered copies sold fast in stores (7 copies sold the first day) where I live and they ordered abd received new copies. It was #5 on Amazon.fr...
.
So my interprétation of this is that only simple copies of SOTT (2+3 cds and vinyles) were counted in that charts. Not the 9 and 14 discs version.
This must be a barcode problem.
Really not cool at all, and a top ten position for Prince has just been stolen.

Last week SOTT entered the Italian Top 100 Album Chart at n.38, this week evaporated... From the other side, one should consider that this list is full of Italian trash trap phenomena...

It's so nice to see this kind of success for the box set. I still think "Forever In My Life (Early Vocal Run-Through) should have been a single pushed at radio as an edit which would have been helped even more.

Of course it charted in 1987(#24 best sellling album of the year) and in 2016 at#61.

Wikipédia is not comprehensive at all.

But it is #47 on the sales charts (-43!) and #27 in the vinyl charts.

Billboard 200 for the second week of SOTT:
#173 (-153!) 59th week since 1987
.
But in the sales charts :
#21 (-14)
#69 Purple Rain
.
Best selling albums in the US so far :
#68 Purple Rain (66.000)
#197 1999 (25.000)

God bless America :
.
Best selling albums in the US so far in 2020 ( sales only, not streaming), week 40
.
#69 Purple Rain (68.000) - total SoundScan sales since 1991 : 3.998.000
#183 SOTT (29.000) - total SS : 437.000
# 199 1999 (26.000) - total SS : 1.043.000.
.
So in its second week SOTT sold about 11.000 copies. Not bad at all !
Edit : in fact, I forgot the obvious : these are of course the sales for the whole year. So before even before the SOTT SDE was released, the original album must have been sold like 5.000 copies.
.
So, last week, estimated sales at about 5/6.000 copies.

That's good numbers for a high priced box set in an era where full albums don't sell well.

I'm not sure how many weeks anyone expected a boxset like this, costing 10x a regular album, to hang around in the charts for. I'm sure it will chug away for a long time to come - a few people might be getting it as a gift the next few months.
