When Country music artist Deborah Allen asked Prince if he could write a song for her, he decided to rework “Witness 4 The Prosecution” instead. The original song contained contributions from the Revolution, but this re-recorded version is almost exclusively Prince (with the exception of Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss on sax and trumpet respectively), and it includes at least five different Fairlight keyboard tracks and seven layers of Prince’s own background vocals. Prince decided to keep the song, and would instead offer her “Telepathy,” which had been recorded and mixed on the same date.

I've never heard this version before; was it widely bootlegged? I love it! It has more light than version 1, more fun, funkier, and it even builds somewhere. Is that a steel drum? Into it, very interesting, and might be my favorite of the pre released tracks.

wow. this sounds almost Lovesexy-esque or Rave '88 to me, with the background vocals especially, maybe even the tone of the guitar. it of course has those similarities to "Bob George" and "Electric Chair" that's been mentioned. but i love how you can see a little where he was turning to, all the way back in October 86. Monotonous beat, that guitar tone, clear vocals. Maybe it's a little "Big Tall Wall" too

That steel drum is woeful


Still enjoying the track though. Awesome
