Yes. But if you pre-ordered early through Amazon when it was listed at $149, you get it for $149 (or less if it comes down). That’s the beauty of Amazon pre-orders.

Price remains £199.99 in UK for CD set.

I am never gonna justify paying that when iTunes has it for £49.99. £150.00 for a dvd and packaging...and packaging that doesn't allow me to store it with other cds?

Happy to gve that money to Duane Tudhal when his book comes out.

I am thrilled at the content in this release and can't wait for it to come out but really let down over the vast expense and packaging that is totally inconsistent with 1999 SDE.

.

You can keep going on about it but the pricing of physical formats are only very seldom related to the pricing of digital products. Or do you think an album download selling for £9.99 while its physical (CD) version is available for £6 or £8 (with booklet, with packaging and with better sound quality) means the file for download costs more to produce?
.
Anyway, the CD box of 'SOTT SDE' will probably end up costing around £150 and it's not just rather expensive to manufacture but it also comes with a DVD and a 12x12 inch hardback book (unavailable elsewhere).
Personally I think the hardback edition is a bit of an overkill (when it comes in a rigid box, it really wasn't necessary to make it hardback), so they could've saved us a few bob by keeping it paperback as in the '1999 SDE', but it is what it is. I can't wait to get the physical version – and most probably I'll have to go for the LP-edition, not because I'd want to play the vinyl, but because that will have more photos of the vault tape boxes on the inner sleeves of the LPs.
.

But you also have to factor in that with iTunes you are purchasing it at a lossy bitrate, if you buy it from digital retail stores that offer lossless or high def files the price would be much higher. Personally, even at that price I don't know if I would spend that much on lossy bitrate files and find spending a bit more for lossless audio packaged in a wonderful collector's edition with a DVD to be well worth it especially for arguably Prince's golden period

Think of shelves intended for CD's. Many CD's.

Try to fit a 12" object elegantly in there.

Whining?

Where is the `idea box` for Warner Records, Michael Howe, the Estate or anything related there?

They have no clue about what they are doing.

The only tangible results we get are these records and even these aren't perfect.

See this one SOTT thing.

See the PR debacle.

See the 1999 censorship.

They were able to handicap each and every release.

Perhaps it's time for a reality check:
.
– NO release will be 'perfect'.

– Prince's estate is being run by a bank, so I thank God that at least they had the decency of putting someone in charge of the vault who knows something about P and music in general, instead of just letting suits make all decisions.

– 'Purple Rain Deluxe' was NOT a genuine vault release, it was a rush job to try to quickly meet market demand, so there's no point in looking back on its many problems anymore. Sooner or later it will be replaced by a Super Deluxe Edition.
– '1999 SDE' was not "censored", don't be childish. Leaving out 2 problematic songs was an executive decision any record company in the world is entitled to make. They left out tons of other material too.

– The smaller booklet inside the CD version of '1999SDE' was an issue many (myself included) complained about. I believe making the 2 boxes and books the same size is proof they are listening to feedback and working harder to please the majority of fans, but noone can (or should try to) please everybody.
– I'm sure I'll be able to find issues with 'SOTTSDE' too, but regardless: I'm thrilled and can hardly wait to hold it in my hand, after 30+ years of dreaming about being able to hear some of this material in good quality!

I'm not too bothered with the size/storage of the box or the format to be honest, but if anything, I reckon having the book in the same dimensions for both formats is a way of cutting down layout and printing budgets. Don't overlook that when justifying the final price of the product.

Making a large and a small booklet equally large does come with some savings in pre-press, but manufacturing large hardbacks instead of small booklets pushes the overall printing budget UP.

With all due respect, if you don't like the whining then move on and don't read it. This a forum for opinions. If you don't mine there should be a scroll down option on your computer. Try using it.

I'm just being honest and raising some valid points. When you compare pricing on this set against 1999 it doesn't add up.

Prince fans have been yearning for ages to have this music finally being made available but what indication did anyone give that to make this release complete, it needed a 120 page book of liner notes/photos that bumps up the price by £100+? Most of us will buy Duane Tudhal's book which will likely contain a great amount of this info and even more of us got past collecting photos when the internet arrived.

My "whining" at least led to good advice from a similar UK fan who thankfuly presented a decent buying option.

As well as Norman Records

https://www.normanrecords...-the-times

previously mentioned on here for a cheaper price than currently at Amazon, then in the UK these guys, Burning Shed, might also be a better option than the big companies - £134.99 for the SDE CDs:

The Org really should have multiple threads for this release. The mods should be like the ones on NIN fan forum ETS: when a thread about a new album was derailed by lots of people complaining about the delivery failures, those posts were siphoned into a separate thread. People complaining about a release being vinyl-only also got their own thread. But ETS runs on up to date software, not a custom mod of two decades old software that barely holds it together.

.

Still, the Org really should provide a "bitch about the price here" thread. And another one where people can post price updates.

A room.

And vinyl I do not play, it is in a different spot than the CD's are.

It is weird that one of the first CD albums I purchased now will present a problem in the 'modern' shape it comes in.

Each to their own.

Considering that Susan Rogers was the recording engineer on almost every track and had a hand in sequencing all the albums this set covers, I'd rather have her write the entire book.
