What are all you guys gonna go for first in this set - the remastered SOTT, the Vault tracks, or the live stuff? I will probably do SOTT remastered first followed by all the Vault tracks in order just for a fun complete experience

Me too but it will B hard 2 resist for not skipping known tracks. [Edited 6/27/20 15:49pm]

What I say I’m going to do…

I’ll wait for the set to arrive, lock myself in a quite room, pour a drink, dim the lights, unseal the records, start from LP1 and may my way through the set in sequence.

What I’m actually going to do…

Unzip the file that we’re all blatantly going to have before the mail man arrives, hunch over my PC, put my headphones on, yell at my wife and children to keep the noise down, click on Rebirth of the Flesh, 30 seconds in I’ll skip to 4:30 to hear the outro, then check Crucial, then Large Room With No Lights, then Wally, then skip through all the rest of the vault tracks.

After that I’ll listen to the first track of the remastered album, at that point I'll stop to compare it to the original CD, then the Japanese pressing, then all the fan made remasters and vinyl rips I have. Try to convince myself this is the best sounding version whether it is or isn’t. Then I’ll probably go on to load each track up in Spek to make sure we’ve not been fobbed off with anything bootleg or MP3 sourced. If I do find anything I’ll likely be straight on here to have a damn good whinge about it. Then in a month or two’s time when I’m feeling bored I might actually unseal the set and see what the DVD is like.

… I’m the worst Prince fan ever aren’t I?

I feel seen.

I'm not convinced the writer was there.

I was at the 19th, 20th and 21st shows and everyone one I know who attended felt the 19th was the strongest. Maybe it was a 'first night' thing.

The 19th escaped the rain, but the 20th didn't. Prince played longer, but it was much more subdued physical performance, due to the damp stage. The 21st was almost a wash out.

I spoke to Prince for the first time on the 20th, prior to the soundcheck and he was hacked off with the weather. He said he wanted to do an afteshow is Utrect, as it was a 'college town' (in his words), but said he might just head back to 'the city'. I assumed he meant Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Den Haag.

I never got to attend on the 21st so I can't comment on the quality of the show.

I'm looking forward to hearing the audio of the 20th. The show might have been physically subdued, but maybe that made for a better sonic recorded performance.

The uncirculating (complete) soundboard of the Paisley and Utrect shows are worth the price of admission alone in my opinion. We will have 2 more actual soundboards from the Sign O the Times tour! biggrin A freind of mine was at the New years show and she still swears blind that Miles guested on "If I was your girlfriend" as well as the encore. I have never heard that anywhere else so I think she may have misremembered. I finally get to see if there was anything to it razz

The footage of If I Was Your Girlfriend has been doing the rounds for ages and can be easily found. There's no Miles on stage for that number.

By the way, Miles was playing in New York on 19 June 1987, and his tour continued with a date in Denmark on the 27 June.

My question is: what's the point of closing threads just because they reached a certain length? There is a "LAST" button you can use to jump to the last page immediately, regardless of the number of pages in between – so why break conversations and dump entire threads? I know they are still searchable, but I doubt many of us would make the effort. Why not just leave it as it is until people continue conversations on the topic?

I think that the new years eve concert is discussen for this instead of Utrecht 20th.
also I was at the Utrecht concert and can confirm the was no Davis in Miles around.

Outside of "remote" studio collaborations ("Can I Play With U?" and "Sticky Wicked"), the only time Prince and Miles played together was at Paisley Park on Dec. 31, 1987. If there was any other collaboration, it would have been documented by now. Alan Leeds and others are almost certain Prince and Miles never played together in the studio, although Prince seems to imply something else during a 1998 interview ("I've actually recorded some indescribable music with Miles Davis -- long improvisations that I will release at some point." - http://princetext.tripod...._gw98.html) Was he actually talking about "Can I Play With U?". Or "Funky"? Or something else?

BTW, has anybody tried to identify the Miles samples on "Funky"? I've always assumed they came from "Can I Play With U?". If they don't come from "CIPWU?", there's still a mystery left to solve here...

Ok so i ordered the 8cd & dvd set on Amazon.co.uk yesterday priced at £199

However the email confirming my order says price is £143.99

I shall hold them to that but i think it should be £100-£120 max.

I am looking forward to it and already feel hyped.

Is it confirmed that the cd set is in a 12" x 12" box?

If so i really hope we get sleeves at least for the discs.

Really was hoping for a box like 1999SD.

It’s noted that both sets include the 12” hardcover book so the packaging has to be that size. I was annoyed at first about how my CD shelf which has always been a complete record will no longer be able to be but the inclusion of the book and how nicely this will sit next to the 12” Blu Ray deluxe set of the movie has tempered my annoyance somewhat.

The cds will no doubt fit in the book then.

Still going to hope for cardboard sleeves like in the 1999 set.

Roll on September.

The CDs can't be in the book as the book will obviously be identical in both sets. I guess there'll be an additional 12"x12" folder in the CD version that will hold the CDs and DVD.

Yep. The 12” DVD and BLU RAY of the SOTT movie is probably how they’ll package it. No sleeves but slots built into the packaging.

there's always Prince music on your shelf you've actually

barely (and I dare to say even 'never') listened to.

admid it. biggrin

my own whole enormous P collection certainly needs a spin here and there

and i'm pretty convinced that most of us suffer from this same lucky phat luxury too.

tbh, I barely can keep up with it all.

am i spoiled as a fan ?

we always want more and more

but barely keep up with what Prince actually created and performed

in his whole life.

the man made and played what ?

nearly 40 years of music ?

-

calculation :

now take whatever he created during 1 hour a day,

(and no he did not sleep the rest of the 23 hours of any day in his life),

and multiply that buy his nearly fourty years of work,

now that's somewhat 14.600 hours, or a continuous 600 plus days of non stop ...

albums, unreleased songs, rehearsals,

live performances, different versions,

songs for others, tv shows,

radio, live records, protegees, remixes,

and probably it is even more.

no sleep for +600 days ! wink
