This purchase is the most expensive Prince purchase I’ve made that didn’t result in seeing him perform live. But the most expensive Prince purchase in my house was a surprise birthday present from my non fan wife.

It's cool though. She doesn't really trip when I spend a lot for hookers and happy ending massages. Just Prince stuff... evillol evillol evillol

Here's images from Warner Australia. You can see the covers they've chosen.

Interestingly enough, there's no covers shown for the CD version. Only the discs.

OK, so in 2017 we get "From The Vault & Previously Unreleased", then last year we get "1999, Vault Tracks I/II" and now it's just plain "Vault Tracks I/II/II" instead of "Sign "O" The Times, Vault Tracks I/II/II"... I wish there was some consistency in these unreleased material albums' titles.

Wait...so we're clear...we're going to get to listen to a pristine, full version of "Cosmic Day"...amongst other holy grail tracks...and you're MAIN complaint is how the discs are titled?!?!? I'm confused...

I think that the new years eve concert is discussen for this instead of Utrecht 20th.
also I was at the Utrecht concert and can confirm the was no Davis in Miles around.

Outside of "remote" studio collaborations ("Can I Play With U?" and "Sticky Wicked"), the only time Prince and Miles played together was at Paisley Park on Dec. 31, 1987. If there was any other collaboration, it would have been documented by now. Alan Leeds and others are almost certain Prince and Miles never played together in the studio, although Prince seems to imply something else during a 1998 interview ("I've actually recorded some indescribable music with Miles Davis -- long improvisations that I will release at some point." - http://princetext.tripod...._gw98.html) Was he actually talking about "Can I Play With U?". Or "Funky"? Or something else?

BTW, has anybody tried to identify the Miles samples on "Funky"? I've always assumed they came from "Can I Play With U?". If they don't come from "CIPWU?", there's still a mystery left to solve here...

[Edited 6/28/20 4:56am]

Here https://pitchfork.com/the...aborators/ several people speak with much conviction of such a session taking place, with some citing a March 1, 1986 "Rubberband" session at PP.

But according to Pvault, March 1, 1986 is when Miles recorded overdubs on CIPWU at Capitol Studios, without P being there. Between the relative reliability of Pvault and what Alan Leeds say I'd assume the Miles Ahead website quoted above as a source is mistaken.

It's likely we'll know for sure if anything happened in 1986 or not when Duane's next book is out next year.

Now there remains the possibility of 1987 or 1988, but I really don't know.

Same with these Funky samples. Do we know for sure they're not from CIPWU? (If someone did a thorough comparison, I missed that part).

Could it also be that Prince sampled notes of what Miles did on CIPWU and replayed them on keyboards? (I'm not sure if technology would have allowed this to be made in a clean way in 1989, but he credits some things by Fischer, Sounds of Blackness, Leeds and Bliss as being sampled and replayed by him on Batman.)

Well my main concern clearly is the music. But there I was like "Fuck, WTH, how am I gonna file this in my digital collection now?!". I'm being picky is all wink

Well, as was explained to me above, this seems to be acceptable for the majority of people, because it's like one is literally stealing resources from the other for their own selfish benefit, and if resources are limited and the deal is to share them entirely then I guess it makes sense.

Now "HELL" is a strong word. To be fair, in my relationship something really nasty would have to be done by one of us for the other to give him/her "HELL", but on the other hand it was an explicit deal between us from the beginning that giving each other shit was NOT a negociable option in our relationship. Not to say it can't ever happen, but as I said it would have to be something really really nasty, and in 5 years it still hasn't happen beyond the quickly solved argument that we found a way to solve before anyone had to raise their voice. Admitedly this is rare: most of my past relationships have been nightmares when I think about them retrospectively, and by comparison to the one I'm in now lol

I am Wondering the same thing. In reality I will stream the albums using Tidal 99.9% of the times I will listen to them, but the SOTT set will certainly look nice next to my PR and 1999 sets. The book would be nice as well.

I do remember having read somewhere that with pre-orders you will get the lower price as well when (if) they decide to drop prices.

Pre-order now, just to be on the safe side. You can always cancel your pre-order (on Amazon,at least) if you find a better price elsewhere.

…and if you pre-order on Amazon and the price falls after you place your order, you'll get the lower price.

The danger with ordering from the Estate is:

1. I have yet to get a music release delivered from the Estate within a week of the release date
2. You can't cancel a pre-order
3. If you order other items at the same time as your pre-order, none of it ships until the release date of the pre-order.

I don't like doing it much, but I went the amazon route with the exception of the 7" singles set, where the Estate was the only option.

Now with links to the digital versions as well (where I could find them). Note that Amazon uses the same link for streaming as MP3 purchases and streaming is their default option, so you might need to click a button labeled "MP3" when you use the link to the digital release.

Why are you guys so obsessed with Amazon? Ever thought about how they treat their employees? Support your local business as much as possible! And if you don't have a wrecka stow nearby, I'm sure there's other stores that you can order from!

I would prefer to order from my local Wrecka Stow - but in Australia not even the biggest Record stores got the 1999 boxed set on Vinyl or CD - I ended up having to get mine through Amazon US.

The latest release of the ONA alone sets (And TRC) are still not in ANY Aussie stores and even Amazon Australia do not have it. Again I have had to get them through Amazon US.

The Aussie stores that offered pre-order for the 1999 sets never got to fill all their orders as NO stock.

Also if you order from the stores you have to pay upfront and with this now being almost $1000 if you want both formats (as I do) that is a lot of money to expect one to pay at once. At least Amazon charge you when they ship the item, so gives you time to set the funds aside. Amazon Australia are not even showing these as an option to pre-order at this time either..............so it is all very well to be judgmental on those that are ordering through Amazon but totally unfair as not all countries have the option to walk into a store and actually buy these things. Also another to consider, if the price drops at least Amazon charges the cheaper price too, but it is doubtful the record stores will? It is a gamble & it is getting insane how many hoops Aussie's have to go through to get anything these days.

I collect both Vinyl & CD (and play both formats as I do not like streaming) - and do not be fooled by CDs being a dead format - some of Madonna's CD singles now sell for $100 each - they are very collectable too and I believe in time CDs will become popular again once people realise streaming is not all that it is cracked up to be and they will be sought after again just as Vinyl is now.

I perfer CDs for a few reasons!

1. They take up less space but still have the tangible physical medium to enjoy
2. Never having to worry about pops and clicks and can rip them to my hard drive/iPod to perserve the condition of the set - and can re-rip whenever I desire
3. They cost way less in general per CD especially if you buy used most of the time. You can buy used vinyl but they can vary in condition whereas a CD plays the same lossless audio every time

On thing I cannot help but notice with the vinyl sets though, it looks like one of those "cardboard sleeves" houses 3 LPS !! I hope they do not put them in those awful paper sleeves that we have to replace with MOFI sleeves - and at least put them in decent Poly Sleeves? Also I think the albums should be in gatefolds not those slip sleeves? For the price point?
