I guess you could say it's dark in the sense that back in the 80s, the majority of transsexuals were street walkers and he wanted to call Vanity 6, The Hookers.

Not exactly a clean or normal topic...although Lou Reed and The Kinks already did it in the 70s.

Extralovable & Lust U Always are NOT "pro rape songs".

If you really believe Prince was "pro rape" (he was NOT), then you should not listen to him at all.

You don't tell me what I should or I should not listen to. Majority of Prince songs are not pro rape that is why I continue to listen to him.

Typical male entitlement attitude.

They are pro rape songs. Only rape fetish sickos would otherwise denial about its content.

No they're not.

And if they were, that would make Prince "pro rape".

Which is why if you believe that, you should stop listening to him.

Likewise, disagreeing with you on this does not make us "rape fetish sickos".

They are mad because the want to experience the music learn the instrumentation production sing dance rhythm vocal arrangements drum programming and listen to it unedited.
As 4 u and others with your perverted mind taken the rape word out of it's TRUE meaning which was a fantasy which most likely they were about Vanity. Think Vanity didn't know they were both Kinky and wild.

Per the princevault website:

In 1988, engineer Chuck Zwicky pulled the track out from the vault and remixed it, telling Prince it should be released. During Prince: A Celebration in June 2000, computer screens at Paisley Park Studios offered names of a selection of tracks which users could vote on for inclusion on Crystal Ball Volume II, and while the track (now known as Xtralovable) was chosen by fans, the project was ultimately abandoned. It is not known whether this version was the same as an earlier version, or an alternate recording.

On 4 March 2011, the website drfunkenberry.com reported that Prince was "about to unleash" a "25 minute live version" of Extraloveable (written as Extra Loveable), but nothing more on that alleged version came out eventually and Extraloveable had at that point never been played live, so this may be a live in-studio recording. The version eventually released was a studio version, likely recorded later in 2011, featuring a rap by Andy Allo (who first started performing with Prince in May 2011); the track was likely recorded at Paisley Park Studios, although this is unconfirmed.

Prince stated in a radio interview with Toronto radio station 104.5 CHUM FM (also released as a podcast) that he had three versions of Extraloveable, and that they would all eventually be released; he also stated in the interview, however, that the released version was the 1982 recording with some minor tweaks, while it in fact appears to be an entirely new recording.

It sounds like Chuck Zwicky remixed the track and perhaps tooks the controversial elements out and Prince seemingly approved of the new versions. It's obvious other versions exist of the song that is similar to the original yet tweaked to be less controversial.

rolleyes The songs are as much pro rape as Push is pro kidnapping children or Sister is pro incest or Head is pro adultery, I guess you think Bob George is pro domestic violence or Automatic is pro torture lol .
The songs are just Prince pushing his shock agenda to get people talking and seeing this topic here it worked.

It is totally unknown what was done to the song in 1988. Three versions were indeed released, the 2011 single, the 2012 instrumental remix and the 2015 album version. All three are based on the 2011 rerecording without any element from the original, and tell us nothing about what happened in 1988 or about which version was planned for CB II.

I'm not keen on the idea of bothering Prince's former staff as they must get asked questions about him a lot, but do you think it'll be ok to try and reach out to Chuck Zwicky and ask him if he has any recollection of working on Extra Loveable and how his remix differed from the original. Had the bathtub sequence not been included and if the mix still exists in some form then surely the Estate should have no qualms about releasing it. Even if the tub sequence was still present it would still be interesting to learn more about this track's history.

Prince did indeed make three mixes of his 2011 recording, but that may not have been what he meant by three versions. Maybe he was referring to the '82 recording, the '88 remix and the '11 re-recording.

Maybe I'm just grasping at straws at this point.

If the '88 remix is different then they should release it as a outtake to a Lovesexy or even a Rave unto the Joy Fantastic '89 set.

Well, at least 2 of those qualify, not sure about the remix though.

If it's of such great concern, why not release the two "offending" songs as a special 12", with proceeds going to the Joyfulheartfoundation.org and special sleeve notes discussing the lyrics in an academic manner?

Bad move. I'm sure the charity would consider this gesture to be in poor taste. It would probably attract the very attention the estate are presumably trying to avoid. They'd be better off just releasing them individually as digital downloads but quietly. No press release. Just sneak them out and let the fans find them.

Some women love both of those songs so the problem lies with the listeners who just want some of the Prince songs never to be heard.
Imagine if they are more songs that are just as controversial.
