Honestly... I took a pass on buying this release because of the omission of Extraloveable, along with the lazyness of some of the mastering (releasing things at the wrong speed, etc.).

If they think they'll make more money by censoring the catalog, I wish them the best of luck with that. Sounds like it's not working out too well so far...

I consider myself somewhere between a diehard and a casual fan. I've sought out unreleased material, own albums of his the GP prob aren't even aware exists, so in that way, I'm beyond your "casual" fan but I certainly haven't heard EVERYTHING out there or have a very specific wishlist as many "diehards" in this thread have. Just giving perspective as to the "type" of fan I am because I find the 1999 SDE (and PR for that matter) to be absolutely amazing. I'm in my late 30's and have owned the original 1999 CD since my early teens and this remaster has me hearing the album in a new light. Prob in the minority as well in that I love having the radio edits/extended versions/special versions included. I already had a few of the unreleased tracks as well but it's nice to have them in great quality on an official release. AND we get an official live performance DVD from arguably his most magical era. Truly, I couldn't be more pleased with this release. I'm sure there are many fans out there like me. Somewhat surprised to see the blase' reaction among his more passionate fans. On the other hand, not really, it seems like the most diehard fans of any artist really are the hardest to please.

Agree. But why the radio edits? I don’t get it. They ruin the cohesiveness of the package and could be provided elsewhere.

Sorry, but it doesn't. No offence intended but what you are saying doesn't make sense.
On Crystal Ball for example Last Heart, Interactive, Strays of the World, Movie Star (except for the JOTY intro) is identical to the unreleased version so that by your logic it means that Prince put out unfinished songs.

The Black Album wasn't released until 1994 so you're saying that between december 1987 and 31 december 1993 all the songs on The Black Album were unfinished and when released they were suddenly finished while nothing extra was done to them.

Or any unreleased track on unreleased finished albums/sequences of released albums (In a Large Room with No Light, Rebirth of the Flesh, unreleased tracks from Katrina's Paper Dolls, Dream Factory, Crystall Ball 1986/1987, The Dawn, Days of Wild which was on the initial version of The Gold Experience.)

.

I'm not saying that at all. You're misinterpreting the point.

.

It's actually very simple.

.

If Prince released it, it's finished.

.

If Prince didn't release it, it wasn't finished.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

So "Parade" is finished just because Prince released it?
Prince finished some of the songs of "Parade" after the album was already released...

Which version of "The Dance" is the completely finished version since there are multiple versions released by Prince?

.

Yeah, it's a finished product once he released it to the public.

.

If he revisited, re-edited, re-mixed, re-mastered, re-wrote, re-conceived, or otherwise altered something in some way - and re-released it for public consumption - then that's ALSO a finished product.

.

But none of that invalidates the original finished product. It just means that multiple versions of something can and do exist. Finished versions. Just different from each other.

.

But the stuff that remained in the vault at the time of his death, will remain 'works in progress.' Incomplete. How could they ever be considered "finished" when Prince isn't around to decide that they are in fact finished and ready for public consumption?

Seriously?
During his WBR stint Prince wasn't allowed to release particular "finished" tracks, so your theory doesn't make sense...

Makes nothing but sense.

.

Prince had how many years after WB to release whatever he wanted?

.

It's a basic concept: what was released was finished. What wasn't released, we'll never know. It's a matter of speculation, if anything at all. But if it didn't come out, how can anyone but Prince know if it was finished or not?

After him leaving WBR Prince couldn't release whatever he wanted simply because WBR (partially) "owned" a load of his music, and thus also some of the songs they didn't allow him to release, recorded when he was under them...

Besides, WBR released "Parade" without Prince's full approval because the tracks weren't finished to him... So CAL3, your theory still doesn't add up or make sense... Unless you're a record company stooge then your agenda is quite clear and shouldn't be taken seriously...

Affordability is not a valid reason IMO.

Fan base is predominantly in their 40's thru 60's when most are at peak income levels with little to no debt.

I went to concerts 5-6 years ago when 10,000 seat venues sold out at a get-in price over $200 so trust me when I say his fans can afford to buy his music. It's not like his fanbase is teenagers on an allowance or 20-somethings just starting their careers.

I completely agree - not including those two key songs (perhaps the best outtakes of the era) soured me enough to not buy this box.
