I don't understand how any fan could "boycott" this release because of what's not included. We should all be happy with what is included on this incredible set.

Just in case, Im not about boycotting. Im just realizing how many other questionable songs are on it. Id never boycott Prince remasters etc. Im just seeing how a lot of these other songs can get some controversy going. BTW, Im yearning for the Lust U Alwys 'instrumental", I odnt care about the vocal version. "Climb in my fur."

You never know. Right now shot my own budget by getting braces for my grandson's teeth. Well it was what he wanted, so. At least it will be a gift that keeps on giving, ha! Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...

Been a fan since early 80s I like downloading the songs that I like from i-tunes ... sample the songs before I waste the money on the ones I don’t ... I might have bought 5 songs from both hit n runs ... I probably will just stream the releases from here on out ...

maybe in with time they will get it...dont mess with his stuff

I'm my initial post on this I said that fans are boycotting this release becuase (1) they ommited too many essential tracks (that's a lot more than just these two tracks.) AND (2) because of the comments of Michael Howe on why they didn't release these two tracks.

Some of these were ommitted on purpose. Any of the songs that were given to proteges and released. Also I am curious why he didn't include Baby I'm A Star on this list. For that matter, I wonder what the real purpose of sending all those songs to "traders" was given that we knew the tracklist didn't include some of this. . That being said, there's about another disc of stuff they coulda put out. But from the perspective of a business, why would they put every single song on the set? The set could push to a 16 LP monolith and then not only would nobody really buy it, but they'd never be able to make money from that era ever again.

And those songs shouldn't have been omitted on purpose. They should've been on this set (along with the "Vanity 6" and "The Time" remastered albums as they constitute the whole "1999" era. These three albums are all one together.) . "Baby I'm A Star" was recorded during the summer of '81 ("Controversy" sessions), it was re-worked though during the same week he recorded the Dance Remix of "Let's Work" and "Rearrange". . You're right, business-wise, it would be useless to put every song recorded from November '81 (with some exceptions) until October '82 (with some exceptions again). That's why they specifically removed the protégé songs to release them on their shitty "Originals" series. But honestly, they're just fucking it up. They're trying to reach a younger audience (that'll probably never be interested in Prince's work nowadays). And they'll keep doing these type of releases again because they don't listen to the constructive criticism of some, and fans keep on praising these releases (only because they're scared that the Estate might retain from doing the "Deluxe" treatment while it could eventually make them improve and create much more comprehensive and complete sets). . They should just put more focus on being complete on those sets rather than doing half-assed sets for money. Like for example release the Remaster of Parade with the B-sides and remixes and single and promo versions. Then a month later a seperate multi disc release with all Parade Outtakes/demos and then another month later a big DVD/Bluray set with seperate audio CD's of several Parade era live shows. Then you can ride that wave for 3 months and the fans can digest the releases easier and choose what they want to buy. [Edited 12/17/19 5:28am]

The set is 1999 SDE, not 1981/1982 Anthology. So I get why the protege stuff isn't relevant. . I'd like more proof they're gonna fuck something up before I throw my chips in with the Debbie Downers, though. This set is fantastic. Never heard of any other artist getting 2 (or 3 in our dreams) extra albums worth of unreleased material accompanying ONE album. I ain't afraid of shit, either. I long since lost the idea that I'd ever heard the vault in great quality because so-called fans were more preoccupied with either monetizing or jacking off with their ill-gotten gains than spreading the love. . Now, those very same fans preach from on high about what the estate does (which is largely unprecedented in the history of music - that is, handle a library such as Prince's with such an incredible wealth of unreleased material).

Also never heard this bit before. When was this confirmed and by whom? Conventional wisdom is that it was recorded in December.

I see, so perhaps it is through those same channels where he submitted his offer to "help" them compile something.

Now these "fans" you're talking about (those supposedly jacking off/monetizing their ill-gotten gains) are not mostly the same who preach on high. They're more of a minority. . There's a few who speaks (spoke for some) about Prince's log for the sake of informing people or correcting any mistake. Not for showing off or anything. And these same few guys do preach about what the estate does because Prince's legacy deserves care and rigour. And for now honestly, it doesn't look good (and it certainly won't look any better with the next releases they're planning). "Don't need no Reefer. Don't need Cocaine. It was confirmed in Duane's book. Don Batts previously commented on it in Per's book "DanceMusicSexRomance". "Don't need no Reefer. Don't need Cocaine. Purple Music does the same to my brain."

Yes we should always support this kind of releases. Sure I'm also upset that Extraloveable and Lust U Always aren't on this set but I'm happy with 1999 Super Deluxe. Welcome 2 The Dawn

FYI, streaming counts as sales for the Billboard 200, so it's not like that's not being represented. Prince hadn't been a factor on a charts for a good 20 years prior to his death, so it's not surprising that he's not breaking any records now. A certain kind of mellow.

You do realize Prince had 3 top ten hit albums in the 2000's. 3121 entered at #1 on the top 200 album chart. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Y'all are really too much. 1999 SDE is great, but we get page after page of complaints?! Look, I've got a decent # of bootlegs, and there are songs on this release that I've never heard before. New songs from one of my favorite Prince eras -- you better believe that's enough goodness for me to be happy. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

I'm sorry if this has already been said because I haven't read all the comments...
I think that if you aren't a die-hard Prince fan, you don't even know things have been released.
I am one of those die-hard fans. But most people I know that have liked his music over the years generally have no idea his music is still being released. Plus he doesn't get much air-play.
You can't buy what you don't know is out there...
