After 1999 (my favorite album of all time), I'd just go in order but SoTT will be the heavy hitter of the bunch. I think Parade has the most interesting outtakes though and can picture something really interesting coming out of that project.

Not sure what they'd do with Batman, GB or even Lovesexy for that matter.

Worried that the temptation to do them in order of overall sales figures instead of the quality of the content will undermine thie idea of doing them by artistic merit, so we'll get Batman and D&P before far better albums like Parade, Sign and Lovesexy.

My main desire is aftershows and live material from the soundboard (and on Blu-Ray) along with unreleased vault tracks.

If I was a betting man, and I am, I would say Parade is next, followed by Sign O The Times.

Personally though I would love to see them start from the very beginning and work their way up, but from a business perspective, that would probably not be be the best play.

They will likely continue, whether they go up, or down from here is anyone's bet. Honestly I feel that Parade will be next if they continue the series. But I would lose my mind if they released this one below.

I haven't heard many of those, and if I did, they were untitled. But man, if that was released, I would be a happy man. That whole debut album is my fave afternoon listen. But I think the songs that the songs he left out of that album had more attitude & pizzazz than the ones there released officially. Also, I'd love to add "Wouldn't U Love To Love Me" the original on that tracklist.

Yep, a great listen for sure, I go back to this CD very often. Good call on Wouldn't You Love To Love Me?, I missed that one.

I’d love a deluxe edition of Parade, and I don’t have any inside info to claim anything, but it does seem a little strange if it would come next, given WB have a limited window for most of the classic era albums except for the soundtrack albums. From my understanding, WB could put together a Parade deluxe for release in 2022 and beyond, but not the same for albums like the first 4, Around the World in a Day, Sign o’ the Times, Lovesexy, Diamonds and Pearls or prince.

Madhouse has a cult-like following, that Wax Poetics kinda implied that & I believe it. It definitely deserves the deluxe treatment, and who knows here’s hoping maybe that will bring The Flesh (??) sessions out on the surface officially too, big I’m just being greedy smile

Madhouse deluxe would be good, but given that great quality versions of The Flesh sessions, as well as both 24 versions are out there amongst the regular fans, not just elite, I wonder what it's going to bring relative to Parade, SOTT or Around The World In A Day.

Yeah this "soundtracks in perpetuity" is an interesting one. I cannot see WB having rights to vault tracks in perpetuity only the actually released albums/singles/b-sides/extended.

WB obviously have rights to all songs recorded between 1978-1996 until 2021 hence the super deluxe of 1999. But cannot see how they could do that for Purple Rain, Parade, Batman, GB post 2021 (ie. Included vault tracks). Obviously the estate can licence tracks to WB but surely ALL tracks recorded from 1978-2016 (apart from these soundtracks) have been licensed to Sony from 2021 (with post WB catalogue already under licence to Sony).

I would love this, as it's my favourite album of all time. What vault tracks would belong on a deluxe Parade? The only ones I can think of are:

Old Friends 4 Sale
All My Dreams
Others Here With Us
Little Wendy's Parade
An Honest Man
Call Of The Wild

Any others?

You actually made me question this and I think I incorrectly confuse a lot of boots an outtakes by attributing them to this time period. A lot of the songs I looked up weren't from these sessions/era at all.

off the top of my head:

God is Everywhere
Stella & Charles
Evolsidog
Come Elektra Tuesday
Tibet
Little Girl Wendy's Parade

Call Of The Wild
Others Here With Us

All My Dreams
Old Friends 4 Sale
Polka Dot Tiger
An Honest Man

Go
Empty Room
Neon Telephone

Heaven
My Sex
Palomino Pleasure Ride
Can I Play With U?
(U Got The) Good Drawers
A Couple of Miles
She Pony

also, a lot of madhouse stuff falls into this period and some of it was even in the movie,
a lot of jill jones material was written and recorded during this time as well.

plus, i'd like them to include songs that were later released on crystal ball and online,
like 'splash', 'sexual suicide' etc. just to have everything in one place. on that note, u
could also, perhaps, include all the songs from the family with prince on vocals.

the parade deluxe could be absolutely a-ma-zing.

Just to qualify my statement further - I DON'T KNOW THAT FOR A FACT - but it would be very strange from a contractual POV if they had any rights over vault material because, quite frankly, how can they say it was 100% intended at any point to be part of the soundtrack release?

Edit to further explain my rationale - Warners can legitimately make claim to rights over vault tracks recorded between 1978-1996 due to Prince being under contract to them during this period and (arguably) paying for studio time etc out of advances paid to him by them. Clearly they can make no such claim post 1996.

I think (but cannot recall exact details) that when Prince signed a new deal with Warners in 2014, that was what set the 2021 expiry date. Also at play (and I think but cannot recall exactly) was the 35 year rule by which ownership of the masters for each album (song?) would revert to Prince after 35 years anyway. I think this was what prompted both sides to do the new deal in 2014.

I would love that to.
But I don't think this will ever be released without it being completely edited and finished for a proper release.
Here's some info from another board on 'The Second COming':

****

-- After being asked if the non concert footage has audio:

Only boom audio for that footage exists because ADR never happened (it was just a screentest for possible use...)

-- After being asked if a version of The Second Coming exists with audio:

Yes, an assembly edit of the "movie" has audio... This assembly edit and all the remaining footage were scanned with a Telecine filmdeck in the late 1980's from the original film reels are were stored away and a couple of months later these were traded around in the early 1990's coupled with the rough cut of the "Controversy" musicvideo... So yes, the edit has audio but it's only boom audio and soundboard audio for the concert footage, the project was abandoned before they did ADR... The footage was later reused as screentest footage for "Dreams"/"Purple Rain" to convince the suits at WB...

-- After being asked more info:

It's just a regular, assembly cut; which entails that they assembled all usable footage into a coherent sequence or "movie" and ended with a collection of dailies or rushes for Prince or the filmmaker or whomever... It starts with the footage of the girls and Prince and then it cuts to the concert; real simple and crude... So not a ready for release edit by any means and honestly shouldn't be released as such... If they want to release this footage they should tear it apart and release the non-concert footage as some funny homevideo (like "2 Bums Living The Hard Life" or the Apollonia 6 Video album) and release the full uncut concert seperately which would be more entertaining, but they shouldn't market it as "The Second Coming"... The plan, as I was told years ago, was that more footage needed to be shot to splice it into the concert footage; think of it as the Vanessa Marcil edit of "The Undertaker"... The footage of Prince and the girls was just the intro, which some people wanted to edit into the concert footage; Prince didn't like that idea and the rest is history...

I do think it will be interesting if Warners sticks with '80s for too long - after all, there are limits.

Even though a Parade deluxe would be awesome, it (perhaps) makes more commercial sense to next re-visit Diamonds & Pearls and then after that return to the '80s and Parade.

cool

Batman and D&P catalogue sales are by far inferior to those of Parade or SOTT.
.
I think that is what matters in 2019, not the historical overall sales, but the recent sales and critical acclaim.

You said "catalogue sales" before. Do you mean sales a certain number of years after initial release? At what point do sales become catalogue sales?
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Catalogue sales according to Billboard are sales from after two years after the initial release.
After two years, an album become an "old" album, its promotion is finished and only its legacy can make people buy it.

Ah ok thanks. So I saw somewhere else you said that "Prince" has more catalogue sales than "Diamonds & Pearls" but would a chunk of those sales be from the period after Purple Rain was released 84/85?

Anything from Musicology onwards. I have hundreds of "unreleased" or alternate versions of songs from the 80s so Deluxe versions of his classic albums don't really excite me to be honest. The 1999 Deluxe edition seems OK because there's about 14 or 15 songs on there that I don't already have but there's no guarantee that a Sign of the Times or Parade remaster will contain all that many new songs for me. But outtakes from 2004 - 2016 are very rare so I'd rather something from that era instead of the 80s stuff.

I think a Parade Deluxe could offer a fair amount of unheard material plus the stuff we have in full and excellent sound quality.

However I would also love to hear more from the session that took place in the last decade of his career.

Thx, jay, for asking that because I was wondering the same thing but I'll stand by my assertion that neither WB nor the estate are going to invest themselves in that nuance and will likely just look at total numbers. If I had to bet, I'd say both will focus on total sales to determine what's what and how to proceed.

I could see them skipping Batman since it's so weighed down by the times and the film, but D&P had several hits and, if I'm not mistaken, is his 2nd or 3rd highest selling album ever so I can't see the people lined up to cash in on this stuff glossing over that fact for the sake of artistic integrity or considering "well, yeah, but 'catalogue sales'"

If you happen to know, beyond 1999 and PR, or "the usual suspects", which of his albums has the strongest legs related to your definition? Meaning sales over time I guess. I'm genuinely curious.

Eventually, they're gonna have to do a vault dump and give the hardcore followers what they want -after they're done milking his commercial legacy and once interest has dried up to the point that only the die hards will pony up - but, sadly, I think that will take some time.
