Why is Come so under appreciated? I’ve been really into the Come album this year and for some reason always skipped it in his discography. This seems to be a record that fans and critics overlook for prince as it’s between the b-sides and the gold experience. First off Letitgo is an amazing single! That song makes me feel so good and badass whenever I put on at the gym I know it was a top 40 hit but most people don’t remember it getting any airplay. Papa and Race are two is his best social commentary songs (don’t abuse your children or they will turn out like me) And loose is funky as hell with a near heavy metal guitar solo. The whole album is solid but is still widely Overlooked by fans and critics. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Because people bought into the idea that it was a throwaway album, much like Chaos & Disorder, when nothing could have been further from the truth. A testament to folks not wanting to think for themselves, and let others do the thinking for them. Seems to be a constant, but more prevalent now than ever before in history. Anyway, I digress a little bit, Come is an incredible album, and many folks missed out by dismissing it so fast. I think the art and the whole 1958-1993 business didn't help, either - I mean the album just sort of looks like a drag. Which is a shame, since there's really so much fun being had on there.

. It has some really good stuff on it. Pheromone is a personal favourite of mine. There's a nice balance of commercial tracks (Space, Race, Let It Go) along with some interesting theatrical pieces (Papa & Solo), similar to the Around The World In A Day album that respect.

. Now that is an under appreciated album.

It's not underappreciated by me. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Love every bit of it. That album was pure Prince. (Insert something clever here)

I don't think it's under appreciated. I don't know where people get these ideas about this song or that album being less appreciated. Maybe you're just not hearing from the people who do love it. Find your COME tribe. No one's overlooked it. It's been reviewed by critics and fans alike, and in every goddamn "best of Prince" list on the Org, there's at least one or two COME tracks on it. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Plus, the video for Pheromone is borderline porn. So there's that. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Prince deliberately positioned it that way - can you blame folks for going along with it?

The great disappointment was the title track, the original (?) version is in my opinion one of his greatest songs, the released version would have been a great remix. One of his biggest mistakes. The same one year later with The Gold Experience and Days Of Wild, the New Power Generation lead song, his greatest groove, his greatest live song.

Is there more than one video? The one I've seen is pretty tame.

Yeah I love that era of the NPG. The album itself feels a bit thin, disjointed and self-indulgent, like a bunch of spare parts, it didn't really flow as an album for me but I still dig it. Also, remember this was 1994... there was so much great music that year, I have to admit that Come probably wouldn't even rank in my top 50 albums that year. It's so out of sync with what was happening back then.
Personally I'd improve the album by swapping the title track for the original techno version from "The Beautiful Experience" TV special, maybe swap Space for the Universal Love Remix version, and swap out Papa and Orgasm for something stronger. Race sounds a bit cheesy and "on the nose", but it is pretty funky if you can get past the lyrics and the tin-can guitar sound.

A remarkable album. I like it now more than I did when I first got it, and I always enjoyed it.

Why is Come so under appreciated?
Because people are idiots.
Wasn't that hard. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

I love the album and have always appreciated it. However, had Prince released the original 1993 configuration he'd have likely had a classic on his hands. Here's hoping that some day it's released.

A top 10 P album in my mind.

It's tainted by the 'contract filler' tag, and P himself saying it was old and TGE was the new stuff. Even though he was still playing tracks from it on the 'Gold tour.' . We'd all like to tinker with the track-list or versions used etc but I'll always love it regardless.

I love The Beautiful Experience version but the ultimate one for me is from 10,000 Wallpaper that segues into Endorphinmachine. Sublime

yeah, that was a problem. There was a big rumor back then that Prince would fulfill his contractual obligations by giving Warners the subpar, leftover stuff in his vaults while saving the great, new stuff for his independently released albums. Thus,Come and Chaos And Disorder are often considered to be throwaway albums.
