Getting the three album vinyl bundle on the official store will save you about $15 (as opposed to getting them all indiviually).

I rarely post, but just have to mention that there is absolutely no reason Emancipation needs to be 6 LPs! Typical vinyl album length rode right up to 45-46 minutes back in the day and Emancipation was exactly one hour per CD, meaning it could potentially be 4 LPs, now song length and tracking sequence could make it hard to do, but 6 LPS does not seem necessary, although I haven’t sat down with the CDs and do the math track by track...
AND I have to complain, as it is so so easy to do about what the Estate is doing and wasting time with, but I understand many would like to finish their collection by having everything on vinyl, but everything in purple is really grating on my nerves. Prince had color schemes, Planet Earth should be red, Chaos, blood red...when they re-release Sign, it should be PEACH AND BLACK! Oof, Rave in purple when he’s wearing BLUE just kills me!!!! I will say I did finally grab Planet Earth because the lenticular sleeve as a 12” will be spectacular when I frame it on my wall of vinyl, but man do I wish that the vinyl matched the color scheme of the album, even a blue and white swirl would be cool, like it was planet earth.... but, logically just having it all in normal black vinyl should be standard, not purple. Oof who wants everything on purple? Do these people even look at how he did his own art? And Versace? Why not have a disc of full length songs along with the DJ mix? And on and on...I best shut up already or I’ll really start to tear into things like piano and a microphone where is a release of his final concerts instead of an old cassette everyone had most of already pressed onto vinyl and CD! It’s available in high resolution! It’s a CASSETTE RECORDING, ESTATE, A CASSETTE HI RES MAKES NO SENSE!!! Ok, I will shut up now...

'The reason for 6 LPs is simple: the concept of Emancipation was 3 CDs, an hour a piece, each with an overall theme or feeling. 6 records make sense. 2 for each CD. Otherwise the concept would be lost and songs that "aren't supposed to be together" would be.

I see the point, but cost wise it’s not economical at all, and past issues of things on cassette or CD have often differed from their vinyl versions in the industry, so as long as they don’t do something cringeworthy like say, release 1999 without DMSR, and the order of the songs is maintained all is good to me. After all, putting it on vinyl already disrupts his vision for presentation as three hour acts as you are going to have to flip it or switch it every ~15 minutes...I’d rather do that every ~23...splitting hairs I know...but man it’s an expensive set!!!!!

This still doesn't appear to be up on UK stores yet. I got hit by customs tax on my last delivery from the Prince store so I want to get it from within the UK this time.

looks like a nice package. the only thing that bothers me to no end is the purple vinyl.

why? bawl if they wanted to go for coloured vinyl at least make it album themed, so
orange for emancipation (and blue for rave, which was also very jarring in purple).

instead of looking 'special' or extra princely, these purple LPs just look weird and are
totally jarring. confused

The original Rave Un2 CD face had a white background with part of a large purple symbol on it.

If I'm not mistaken, the purple symbol on the Rave CD is actually Habibi, just the silhouette of it.

Yes, it was a flat silhouette of Habibi, with a chain hanging off the neck, iwth a small symbol on it.

The vocals seem oddly lo-fi.

I really wish they'd inform us of the source. The RSD cassette release sounded fairly bad, according to some.

Because they hadn't seen it until they saw it? Christ, calm your ass down. Isn't it exhausting being such a nudge all the time? It's truly exhausting to wade through your shit posts.

To Thirdstrike: It seemed a bit much to me at first, but it is 6 LPs, and since it's never been on vinyl like this before, I'm down. I've found it better - for me - to buy the LP bundle, and the Versace CD. I don't need CDs of the other two as I already own them. It's still a chunk o' change, but it's less (after tax & shipping) than the CD/LP bundle. Between these and 4 Janet Jackson colored vinyls I picked up this week, my credit card is having a MeToo moment.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Ordered all three on vinyl with my local record store, who will get them in just like with Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth and Rave In2 and Un2....

Yes, the price is large, but when Planet Earth was over £30 for a single album, I expected nothing less than around £100 for the 6LP Emancipation, and it was always going to be 6LPs, no way it could be anything else. 2LPs per CD, that's it.

It's a pricey bunch for sure, especially as Versace is really only an EP, not even a 'proper' album, but sometimes you got to say what the hell.

And yes, I reserved any surprise I had (and resulting reaction) for these prices for once I had found out the price, rather than when they were posted online for the first time.

I find it's much harder to react to information before you're aware of its existence.

Thank you, TrivalPursuit. I thought it was just me who has been growing weary of Bart's fuckery (as much as people kiss dude's ass around here). Very good point. I'll buy it, of course. I was just saying the price is a bit high for a vinyl album...at least, that's what my wife will say. wink
