Am I wrong or is 9 weeks on the charts better than a Prince album has done in a while? If we are speaking about pure sales of studio albums ( like the Billboard 200 used to be before they added streaming on it, and excluding the greatest hits), yes you can go back to Lotus Flower (#85 best selling album of 2009).

Originals is the 43th best selling album in the US so far, that was released in 2019 (51k copies). . We could even argue that the deluxe edition sold like 10/12k copies, and it contains 2 times the same album, so it sold in fact more like 61/63k copies. That would put him at #33 in the best selling release of 2019, and about #70 overall. . You also have to consider most of alive artist in this list got their numbers by selling your tickets+ album bundles. Obviously, Prince can't tour anymore, so Originals can't benefit from that very system that Prince initiated with Musicology 15 years ago (!). . It would take too long to analyse how many copies exactly you would have to remove from those artists to make things equal with Originals. . One thing is for sure, this ticket bundling sales are now so high they are causing controversy, to the point where Billboard wants to make new rules (again!). But let's take some instances : . - from Madonna' s Madame X album : 113k copies sold so far, 30.000 copies out of it were tickets bundles sold during the first week of release! So Madame X "actual/regular" sales are more in the range of 65k copies sold so far! . Out Of the 417.000 copies sold far from Jonas Brothers' Happiness Begins, more than 300.000 are from tickets bundles. . So, I let you imagine, Prince alive in this day and age, would in fact rule the top album sales! .

how would him being alive make him sell more?? Because he would have tour through the whole US like he did with Musicology, to stay relevant in the charts. Because otherwise he couldn't have countered the streaming machine he was against.
