Possible Expanded Reissue of "1999"

(I didn't see this anywhere on here, so apologies if this is a repost.) Primarilly discusses reissues of “Musicology,” “3121,” and "Planet Earth." Regarding "1999":

Word is the Warners team is now working toward an expanded reissue edition of the classic “1999” double-album from 1982, but no official announcement has been made.

YES PLEASE. That they get this one right is actually more important to me than the Purple Rain set. I still go back and forth on whether 1982 or 1986 were his most creative years.

1. I hope this is true!
2. I hope WB get it right this time and do a better job than they did with PR deluxe.
3. I hope this is soon as it could prove to be a bumper year of Prince re-releases/remasters along with the Sony reissues.

cool

Nice! I'm still hoping for a deluxe edition of Parade or Sign O Times too. It was said last year that Parade was going to be the next deluxe release but I guess that was just a rumor after all.

nod

please just let it have lots and lots of (unknown) outtakes pray

and let the remaster actually be fecking great cool

now that warners has access to the actual vault tapes and has been rummaging in there for
a good little while, there are no more excuses for just a so-so release. they'd better bring it
on with the outtakes, the alternate versions, the extended versions etc.

i'm ready to throw a wad of $ at someone.

I would love a full length of "It it'll make you happy"

One well know issue is when does one era end? Listed below are some songs recorded before Irrissable Bitch... at one point it was not clear if IB or G-Spot would be the b-side for "let's pretend.."

G-Spot (Prince on Sax)
Chocolate
My Love Belongs to you
Promise to be true
Possessed
Vibrator
I Know What to say to you (W/ Stevie Nicks)
17 Days (Brenda)
I am Five

CD2 should definitely have the Latvian nose flute demo of "Hey Hannigan" from 1982.

I'm pretty damn moist for an expanded edition of "1999".

that was a mistake that was done in 80 when he was in Paris... that would have to be on the "dirty mind" deluxe... the tape was lost at the airport and returned...the tape was returned in 82 and used again for another pass at HH...so the dates are mixed up.

PR deluxe was great.
The compulsive illegal downloader that you are will never be satisfied, since almost everything has already leaked. Personally, I m just listening to official releases, so everything in the CD 2 of PR deluxe was new to me. And it was the best Prince release since at least 3121

All of the above fits more with the Purple Rain era to me (except maybe 'Vibrator'). They should have been on the deluxe edition, instead of those pointless edits...

Even Irresistible Bitch, I've always thought it sounded more like Purple Rain b-side rather than 1999.

right and that is where it gets weird. Irresistible Bitch as you know was recorded late 1983.

there is no real clear line... But since none of these are on the PR:D then maybe they are game for 1999 D?

Amazing material. If this was properly marketed, it would be a bigger hit than the PR remaster. Most of the public has not been exposed to this album’s deep cuts.

Add the Little Red Corvette remix.

No. With the possibility of WDYCMA and Irrisistable Bitch, all those other cuts are better relegated to unreleased status. They are curiosities by not really worth release.

Yes, it sounds promising. However, if WB's distribution deal is through 2021 (as reported by Variety: https://variety.com/2018/...02858666/) they will have to work quickly to milk this thing for what it's worth. I just don't think there's enough time to make the WB-era reissues legendary. Other things to consider:

-Possible competition with Tidal and Sony's releases

-Digitization status of potentially unheard 1999-era outtakes that were not submitted to WB.

Hoping for the best in 2019 but this has been a huge ball of confusion so far.

Supposed insiders have said both 1999 and Parade deluxes are ready to go and have been for some time.

My guess is that the Tidal album will be released this summer and WB will release 1999 deluxe in December. I'm pretty sure WB wants to release both 1999 and Parade deluxe before 2021

It’s the best album of all time by anyone (IMO), so obviously I am very keen for a deluxe edition. However, if there are legal issues with getting access to everything that could be considered for release, I’d rather wait for this until something truly worthy of a 1999 Deluxe is able to be properly compiled.
